Human Resources Generalist - Talent Management & Acquisition Specialist Job Description
We’re on a roll so we’re hiring! And if you give a “sheet” about paper then that’s a great start (especially if you can tolerate other tearable puns). Case Paper is a family-owned business that is renowned for its commitment to extreme customer satisfaction. We’re literally and figuratively “On the Case” and have been for 78+ years.
Case Paper is one of the largest privately held distributors and converters of paper and board for the printing and packaging industries. We’re not talking copier paper (think more about paper used for signage, brochures, or direct mail) and not the cardboard that carries your Amazon Prime orders (our products are used more for packaging cosmetics, food, technology, and cannabis to name a few). Our core values are (1) Flexible, (2) Own It, (3) Reputation Matters, (4) Teamwork and (5) Humor. It’s easy to remember if you’re a Star Wars fan…may the “F.O.R.T.H.” be with you! We are always looking for those who can aspire to improve our workplace atmosphere through honest hard work, a great attitude, a little bit of curiosity, and a big sense of humor.
We’re adding a new role to our team: HR Generalist - Talent Management & Acquisition Specialist! What exactly does this position entail, you ask? Well, in addition to the standard battery of magic tricks and superhuman feats that we expect of all our teammates, this position will be primarily responsible for attracting and retaining strong, high-quality candidates, motivating and encouraging teammates to reach their fullest potential for the future of the company. If that’s not specific enough for you, try this list on for size:
- Create, implement, and deliver employee development programs with the goal of driving performance through attracting, hiring, developing and retaining top talent.
- Develop a recruitment strategy by collaborating with department managers to identify and forecast recruitment needs as well as identifying and implementing sourcing methods (e.g. social recruiting, staffing agencies and advertising sites).
- Responsible for all aspects of training administration to ensure that our New Employee Orientation (NEO - 'Caseification' as we call it) program among other training initiatives run successfully.
- Actively engage in the performance management and compensation processes, including reading/analyzing employee engagement evaluations, assisting with performance assessment meetings and ensuring mid-year/annual reviews are completed timely.
- Assist with employee actions including new hires, transfers, leaves of absence and terminations, employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing, documenting areas for improvement, as well as managing attrition reporting.
- Assist managers in creating and updating job descriptions and accountability charts for employees to accurately represent the scope of the role at any given moment.
- Responsible for maintaining our current employee engagement programs and reporting metrics.
- Maintain compliance with all federal and state employment laws.
- “Other duties as assigned” (of course we would add this one!)
Do you have what it takes?
We’re ideally looking for a teammate with at least five 5-7 years of progressive HR management experience to include recruitment, employee relations, benefits, training, multi-state and federal employment law, ADP/HRIS, communications, compensation, company event planning. It would be super if you had experience in a manufacturing environment.
You’ll impress us if you have a college degree in related field (HR, business management.) -OR- if you have commensurate work experience in related discipline(s) and/or relevant certifications. Your background should provide you the tools and ideas you need to be successful in a highly analytical and detail-oriented role. While this is a high-level contributor position, we value the hard work, experience, curiosity, and best practices you can bring from other positions and workplaces, with or without the formal education.
As the philosopher Napoleon Dynamite astutely recognized, skills are important. Here are some of the skills you just might need in this role:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Business/Administration, Industrial/Organizational
- Microsoft Excel. “If Excel is your friend, then you are our friend.” This means data analysis, financial modelling, formula calculations, sorting, filtering, conditional formatting, data validation, pivot tables, macro support, etc.
- Multitask and prioritize workload, shifting between a variety of tasks as necessary (obvs)
- Unmatched attention to detail (you ALWAYS find Waldo)
- Working knowledge of and experience with Human Resources Information Systems (we use ADP, so if you know that system, it will help!), and double bonus points if you know Workforcenow.
- Great verbal and written communication skills (especially with intended puns here and there)
- Be someone that other people want to work with (- > such an underrated skill!)
