Palomar Craft Cannabis is a California state licensed cultivator for both recreational and medical cannabis. We purpose built and operate a large, high-tech sophisticated mixed-light cultivation facility, with robust environmental controls and proprietary data collection systems. We are now looking to hire a Data Specialist to help us continue to work with and understand the data we collect from each of our 18 annual harvest cycles.
Thus far, we’ve built our company’s reputation on producing top quality, differentiated strains of cannabis in a consistent and reliable manner. But we have also always focused on data collection and going forward we believe that a more robust analytical effort will allow us to further separate ourselves from other cultivators, as this is an area that is sorely lacking attention and expertise in the cannabis space.
Job description:
-
Data integrity - data is collected across multiple functional areas of the business - supply chain, cultivation, processing, packaging, finance, etc. You will need to ensure that data is accurately entered into our front-end user facing systems. This will be accomplished through implementing data validation rules, training department leads, and SOP development/management (as well as through other means that you bring to the table).
-
Build and maintain spreadsheets for data collection - utilize vlookup, index/match, data validation, pivot tables, calculated fields, and other necessary functions.
-
Data requirements and data management - run queries and sequences to pipe data into our relational database. Experience with requirement gathering, architecture, and design of data warehouse is preferred.
-
Partner with department heads to custom design/develop/maintain complex interactive and dynamic tableau dashboards - the ability to collaborate with department heads is critical - you must have strong communication skills. You should initially be able to answer important questions with data, and over time (after understanding the cultivation/distribution/accounting processes - and the processes unique to Palomar) be able to ASK the important questions, then answer them with data.
Here is what we are looking for in what we consider to be a qualified candidate:
-
Bachelor's degree - not a requirement, but preferred. Don’t really care what you majored in, just appreciate the effort made and soft skills acquired in earning a degree.
-
2 - 5 years of experience in a data-heavy role. A little more experience is preferred if you don’t have a degree.
-
BI software experience is a big plus. Palomar has used Grow, Chartio, Power BI, and currently Tableau.
-
Advanced Excel skills - this is important and you will be tested on this during the interview process.
-
Experience building insightful BI dashboards is preferred. This can be taught to the right person that has advanced Excel skills.
-
Physical IT experience is a plus.
-
Ability to operate effectively in an ever-changing environment. We pivot quickly when needed. This is Cannabis… it’s exciting, but expect curveballs.
This role will entail other data-centric responsibilities not listed in this posting. Please understand that this is a position that focuses solely on data… not a different position with an emphasis on data. So please don’t waste your time applying if you’re not a data junkie.
This position reports directly into the COO, and will collaborate closely with the CEO, Financial Controller, Cultivation Manager, Processing Manager, and Operations Manager. There is plenty of room for growth in this role.
The starting pay for this position is $45k - $55k depending on experience. Your compensation package will include 2 weeks of PTO, paid holidays, and the option to participate in our company health insurance (medical, dental, and vision). This is a Mon-Fri job and your time will be split between Oceanside and Santa Ysabel, CA. Please map both cities and make sure you are comfortable with the commute.
We look forward to reviewing your application.
