JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose
The Analyst I is a mid-level laboratory position wherein professional growth is expected and assessed. Therefore, Analyst I is expected to demonstrate a teachable attitude and a dedication to improvement by paying careful attention to instructions, asking clarifying questions and taking personal notes as required. The Analyst I has the ability to follow standard operating procedures and gather data from specialized equipment and instrumentation and is expected to develop the ability to independently perform all routine tasks and collaborate on continuous improvement as needed. The Analyst I operates equipment and instrumentation on a regular basis and ensures the quality of data. The Analyst I ensures that activities are carried out in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols. The Analyst I position continues the progressive responsibilities training progress including introduction to complex instrumentation operation.
Requirements:Responsibilities and Duties
- Works closely with the laboratory personnel to ensure a smooth workflow of analyses.
- Works under supervision, performing routine tasks.
- Sample preparation including homogenization, weighout, extraction and transfer.
- Responsible for preparing samples for analysis, and assisting the Laboratory Chemist and Technician by providing support as needed.
- Responsible for preparing standards and solutions.
- Works closely with Chemists on instrumentation operation including batch configuration and sample loading.
- To perform detail oriented work particularly when accurate measurements are collected using analytical balances.
- Stands for several hours at a time in order to perform analyses.
- Organizes, conducts, and evaluates testing procedures requiring a thorough knowledge of the techniques and materials involved.
- Works in conjunction with laboratory Technician and Chemist to ensure a seamless transition from raw sample to final results.
- Follows strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures regarding sample handling and follows Good Laboratory Practices to ensure the generation of high quality and reliable data.
- Records raw data in a neat and legible fashion on sample worksheets or in laboratory information system (LIMs)
- Supports developing new procedures or techniques, which significantly enhance work quality or cost effectiveness.
- Leads preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation to maximize instrument lifetime.
- Maintains a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of a broad range of plant medicine products, processes, and cultivation preferred (e.g. Cannabis, Hemp, CBD and Fungi).
- Working knowledge of regulations (local and federal), Good Laboratory Practices, and current official methods with at least 1 year of experience working in an accredited laboratory.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated expertise in plant medicine safety, quality and value is a plus.
- Experience as a CTND Laboratory Technician III is a plus.
- Equipment and Instrumentation (e.g. Analytical Balance, pH Meter, Moisture Balance, Water Activity Meter, Pipette, Analytical Syringe) experience preferred. HPLC, GC and ICP experience are a plus.
- Must have strong organizational, leadership, and technical skills.
- Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies.
- BS/BA degree required, MS/MA degree preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and pass required background check.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Laboratory and Testing Analyst, under the direction of the Laboratory and Testing Manager, will ensure licensed marijuana establishments operate safely and securely throughout the Commonwealth and abide by Commission regulations. The Laboratory and Testing Analyst will monitor, evaluate and analyze the certificates of analysis, current status of testing, cultivation, manufacturing and cannabis related research, including on-site visits, completing regulatory compliance inspections, reviewing and assessing the the protocols for testing and capacity of licensed Independent Testing Labs (ITLs) throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Our team is looking for a night-shift Microbiology Laboratory Analyst to perform routine microbiological testing on customer samples according to approved laboratory methods.
Specific Responsibilities:
· Assist the Lead Microbiologist to perform various microbial analyses on customer samples such as Total Coliform, Total Yeast and Mold using manual plate count, film plate and qPCR methods following laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensuring adherence to quality assurance and quality control requirements.
· Assist Lead Microbiologist to perform Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) methods to detect and quantify pathogens of interest in customer samples. This includes the ability to interpret qPCR data.
· Work in a high production lab with high sample volume and quick sample throughput.
· Assess data compliance and validity using established quality assurance and quality control protocol to ensure that all work is performed and documented properly and in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
· Use the laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to report results obtained from various analyses.
· Assist in sample preparation for other analytical tests in the lab and ensure that all the documentation is up to date.
Required Qualifications:
· An associate degree (or higher) from a four-year accredited college or university in biology, microbiology, or similar discipline.
· Demonstrated knowledge of various microbial analytical techniques including manual plate methods and advanced instrumentation, procedures, and QA/QC criteria used in an analytical and/or environmental laboratory.
· Basic knowledge of microorganisms (i.e., relation to each other, identification, and sources of growth)
· Experience with the qPCR technique and analysis required.
· Experience working in a production lab is preferred.
· Experience with computer applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
Availability to work evenings/nights and one day per each weekend is required.

We are looking for a qualified Lab Technician and Lab Analyst (2 separate positions, 21 or older to comply with MRA guidelines) to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures of technical nature. You will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze samples, conduct assays, and report findings to a laboratory manager. The ideal candidate will have experience in working under possibly hazardous conditions (chemicals). He/She/They will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate about contributing to a team that works to keep our communities safe. Responsibilities
- Measure and prepare samples using standard operating procedures for various analytical and microbiological assays
- Execute analytical or microbiological assays using various instrumentation (GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, qPCR, etc.)
- Interpret and record all data and results on specified forms (paper and/or electronic) with accuracy and accountability
- Perform maintenance on equipment when necessary
- Ensure that all safety protocols are always followed strictly and maintain a clean and orderly work environment

Job Overview: This position will be responsible for performing chemical extraction procedures on a variety of cannabis and hemp products as well as performing sample preparation and analysis for cannabinoid content and other analytes using one or more of these instruments; HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS, and PCR. Perform lab start up and shut down duties. Additionally, include ability to perform the full range of laboratory technician assignments and directing the overall extraction and preparation of samples for analysis.
Responsibilities

· Directs projects focused on improving extraction methods
· Actively training to learn one analytical workflow with goal of becoming proficient to perform that systems sample analysis
· This position uses considerable judgment in making decisions requiring the interpretation and application of extraction techniques
· Follow detailed Quality System documentation relevant to responsibilities, including the Quality Manual, SOPs, methods, and protocols. Adhere to the proper handling and transport of laboratory test samples.
· Performs duties relating to lab and instrument upkeep
· Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate and verify instrument performance
· Independently carries out analytical testing analyses
· Maintain detailed documentation to ensure we are compliant with required standards
· Proficient in the use of basic laboratory hardware such as analytical balances, pipettes, vortexers, and centrifuges.
· Perform laboratory house-keeping duties such as cleaning glassware, making solutions, and tracking reagent inventory.
Qualifications
· MUST BE OVER 21 YEARS OLD
· Degree, BS or MS in Physical, Chemical, or Biological Sciences
· 3-5 years experience in a laboratory setting with knowledge applicable to HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS and quality management systems.
· Knowledge of OSHA, or HIPAA regulation, and HAZMAT guidelines preferred
· Experience with basic laboratory tasks such as pipetting
· Know basic mathematic calculations related to chemistry
· Experience with software applications such as MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
· Be meticulous and detail-oriented
· Ability to read, speak, write, understand, and follow English verbal and written instructions
· Ability to work collaboratively with a team and/or independently
· Ability to perform tasks in a high-volume production environment

This will require the operation of smoking machines used to collect smoke condensate and constituents in tobacco mixtures (shisha) and cigarettes, for analysis. After appropriate training, you will perform laboratory skills including solution and standard preparations, dilutions, extractions, pH analysis, titrations, and chromatography (HPLC, GC) used for qualitative and quantitative analyses.

General Responsibilities

Job Description
The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for all duties administered by the Laboratory Manager and the Laboratory Director in conjunction with regulations established by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), the Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED), and ISO 17025 requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct Gobi Analytical laboratory operations and performance as per the Laboratory Director and Manager.
- Promotes quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.

Qualifications

- Perform data acquisition, analysis of data, and report preparation for the testing/screening for cannabinoid potency, terpene potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbiology analysis, water activity, and mycotoxins
- Identify and assign sample re-tests
- Learn and execute established Steep Hill and state regulatory SOPs
- As needed, provide guidance for and assist with sample preparation
- As assigned, perform advanced lab support functions such as calibration standard preparation, analytical equipment tuning and maintenance, and analysis of data used for laboratory quality control
- As assigned, support and/or lead laboratory process, method, and operations improvement projects
- As assigned, assist with the validation of test methods and with R&D activities
- As assigned, assist with the upkeep and improvement of elements of the quality management system such as SOPs and the training program
- Ability to provide support and integrate seamlessly with other key departments within Steep Hill
- Perform other laboratory and clerical duties such as data entry, filing, or supply inventory and assumption of other responsibilities on an as-needed basis, or as delegated

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidate must be at least 21 years old
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Candidate must be at least 21 years old
- (i) A doctorate in the chemical or microbiological sciences from a college or university accredited by a national or regional certifying authority with a minimum of two years' post-degree laboratory experience; (ii) A master's degree in the chemical or microbiological sciences from a college or university accredited by a national or regional certifying authority with a minimum of four years of post-degree laboratory experience; or (iii) A bachelor's degree in the chemical or microbiological sciences from a college or university accredited by a national or regional certifying authority with a minimum of six years of post-education laboratory experience.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience analyzing data acquired using instruments such as HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, ICPMS
- 1-2 years of prior experience in an accredited academic or commercial lab is preferred
- Well-versed in data analysis (chemical, biological, or both)
- Ability to think critically
- Previous experience working in the cannabis industry is a plus
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multitask, and prioritize assignments
- Previous experience with Lab Information Management systems
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build a strong team
- Ideal candidate will be a creative, analytical problem-solver who can cooperatively work effectively with colleagues
- Understands and follows verbal and written instructions; works independently in the absence of supervision
- Ideal candidate will possess the ability to make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
- Ability to adapt to rapid changes and utilize newly-emergent technological solutions –e.g., Zendesk, Xero, Slack, and Power BI, as well as company-built ERP (MyLab™)
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and GSuite (primarily Google Sheets & Google Docs)
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written command) with excellent computer, typing, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting, ability and willingness to multi-task, and the ability to prioritize and manage assignments
- Positive attitude and willingness to work in a collaborative environment
- Personal integrity, disciplined work ethic, organization skills, and motivation to work with a sense of urgency
- Willingness to travel throughout the United States and internationally, on an as-needed basis
