Cannabis Testing Laboratory in Downtown Los Angeles is looking for an experienced microbiologist to complete the method validation.
- This contract-based position requires experience working in the cannabis laboratory performing Salmonella, STEC, and Aspergillus tests on qPCR using Medicinal Genomics Kits.
Experiential Qualifications:
- **A master's degree or a bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university and 2+ years of experience as a microbiologist
- **Completed 2 years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4+ years of full-time practical experience
- **Experience with qPCR, PCR, microarray, and/or sequencing
- Prokaryotic and eukaryotic genetics background a plus

Responsibilities:
- Oversees the performance of microbiological tests on cannabis-related samples and implement new methods
- Coordinate with chemistry lead to plan the preparation of samples upon arrival in the facility
- Ensures that the microbiology department maintains a clean and safe work environment by adequately training microbial technicians in aseptic methods and protocols; following standards and procedures; and complying with legal regulations (Cal-OSHA, BCC)
- Preparation and control of process quality control organisms via strict adherence to company policy
- Data management and verification of data produced via real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction prior to official reporting
- Document results and quality control procedures and enter data in LIMS
- Execution of excellent communication skills in order to facilitate a productive conversation with scientist, analyst, and other personnel
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations
- Develop new microbiological methods not currently online at the laboratory and write standard operating procedures for them in conjunction with state regulations
- Follow strict Quality Assurance operations according to state regulations
- Write new SOPs as needed
- Monitor inventory and supplies
- Test for E. coli, Salmonella, Aspergillus species on Bio-Rad QPCR
- Perform method validation for new methods
Experiential Qualifications:
- **A master's degree or a bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university and 2+ years of experience as a microbiologist
- **Completed 2 years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4+ years of full-time practical experience
- Hands-on experience in an analytical cannabis laboratory
- **Experience with qPCR, PCR, microarray, and/or sequencing
- Experience working in BSL-2 laboratory
- Experience with any of the following E. coli, Salmonella, Aspergillus species.
- Prokaryotic and eukaryotic genetics background a plus
- Experience in cannabis product development or analytical method development

We are a fast-growing Cannabis Testing Laboratory startup that is looking for a Laboratory Director.
The good candidate must satisfy 1 out of 4 main requirements: (1) A doctoral degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university;(2) A master’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 2 years of full-time practical experience;(3) A bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4 years of full-time practical experience; or(4) A bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university, plus at least 8 years of full-time practical experience, 4 years of which must have been in a supervisory or management position.
Minimum experience includes proficiency with the following devices:
- Agilent Triple Quadrupole LC-MS/MS
- Agilent Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS
In addition to meeting the requirements above, the laboratory director shall be capable of satisfactorily fulfilling all of the following core responsibilities:
- Being able to develop and validate new methods according to FDA / EPA standards;
- Overseeing and directing the scientific methods of the laboratory;
- Ensuring that the testing laboratory achieves and maintains quality standards of practice ISO 17025;
- Supervising and train all testing laboratory personnel;
- Being able to perform all the required testing and sample preparation;
- Being able to write a testing plan, methods, and SOPs;
Initially, the job duties include validating new methods, doing the sample prep, testing for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, terpenes, and others.
