The Chief Scientific Officer carries a large responsibility including managing all aspects of lab operations; overseeing and directing the staff to maintain the highest quality, safety, financial, technical and customer service performance of the laboratory. Hiring and employing capable laboratory staff is vital to the company, as well as developing a lab culture that makes it fun for everyone. The Chief Scientific Officer will ensure the laboratory achieves and maintains quality standards of practice, specifically meeting and exceeding the regulations set forth by the California Bureau of Cannabis Control and the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard.
The Chief Scientific Officer is responsible for:
· Ensuring operations are constantly ran at the highest standards and turn around times are meeting or beating competitors
· Ensuring that the training of its personnel is current and constantly progressing
· Working in conjunction with the general partners for hiring qualified technical and support staff for laboratory operations
· Overseeing all laboratory personnel
· Involved in continuing education, attending conferences and innovating whenever possible
· Responsible for overseeing the operations and regular preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments
· Ensuring that the laboratory has the appropriate resources and facilities to perform required work
· Acts as the laboratory public liaison with community events, regulatory bodies and agents, and industry events
· Ensuring the lab is operating in accordance with BCC, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, state, local, federal laws and regulations where appropriate
· Reviews and approves all SOPs and policies prior to their implementation and ensures all approved SOPs and policies are provided to laboratory personnel and are adhered to
· Nominating deputies when the CSO and QA Director are absent
· Ensuring that all analysts and supervisors have the appropriate education and training to properly carry out the duties assigned to them, and ensures that this training has been documented
· Acts as client liaison to discuss results and expectations with clients, as well as provide client education when appropriate
· Ensuring that corrective actions relating to findings from the audits (internal/external) are being followed by staff to ensure no reoccurrences
· Works with the general partners as needed to develop and improve new client acquisition, client retention, services pricing, new capital equipment expenditures
· Perfecting ordering and purchasing of lab supplies and equipment as needed
· Consults with laboratory analysts and technicians over technical issues, data analysis, troubleshooting
· Ensuring lab safety plans are followed
· Develops employee training and record keeping in accordance with state and regulations
· Responsible for oversight of all building maintenance issues and reporting these to the General Partners as needed
· Reviewing an annual management system review from the QA Director and participating in the annual management system review meeting
· Select vendors in accordance with the required standards to ensure the highest quality testing

The QA Administrative Assistant works directly under the supervision of the Laboratory Director and ownership to assist in administrative tasks in support of the Laboratory Quality Assurance (LQA) Program as directed. The QA Administrative Assistant is responsible for but not limited to:
· Assisting the CEO and Laboratory Director in tasks as directed
o Familiar with all forms and shared drive, company procedures, training, Client relations for large accounts, job descriptions for employees and new hire postings.
o Extensive familiarization with testing regulations (BCC), Confident Cannabis, METRC, and QuickBooks/billing.
o Back-up for receptionist and sample receipt as needed
o Assists with inventory monitoring and sample storage/waste, cost analysis and ordering, METRC compliance on check in, Customer info and reporting in Confident cannabis etc. Develop new efficient procedures if necessary.
o Monitoring and recording client feedback and compliant.
o As available assist with sales, and sales meetings.
· QA assistance including, but not limited to:
o Review of sample receipt prior to analysis
o Initial review and generation of data reports prior to review, finalization and submittal by Laboratory Director
o Creation and control of laboratory documents as directed – SOPs, checklists, bench sheets etc.
o Providing feedback regarding the observed adequacy, status, and effectiveness of the Quality Assurance Program regularly to the Laboratory Director as determined through regular data review
o Implementing corrective actions and creation of Corrective Action Reports as directed by Laboratory Director;
§ Continued monitoring of corrective actions to determine if the root cause has been corrected and systems have been improved such that the issues causing the corrective actions to be implemented shall no longer occur
o Serving as the liaison for the Laboratory Director for QA/QC communications to laboratory staff
o Assists Laboratory Director with internal and external audits on the entire technical operations (at a minimum annually) as directed
o Monitoring and maintaining laboratory certifications as directed

The Higher Commitment Analytical Laboratory (THC Analytical) is now hiring additional staff for our cannabis testing laboratory in Nevada City, California! We are California's first fully validated laboratory per the Bureau of Cannabis Control's most stringent regulations and Nevada County's first and only state licensed cannabis testing laboratory!
THC Analytical is looking for motivated, self-starting team players to work in an exciting and challenging analytical lab environment. Scientists with a background in an accredited, analytical lab and/or the cannabis industry are especially encouraged to apply. Our analysts and technicians are responsible for performing the analytical testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director in accordance with our Quality System and SOPs. Analysts will be responsible for preparation, analysis of samples and data reporting for all testing offered by the laboratory. Analysts will be assigned to HPLC, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP/MS and PCR instrumentation as needed. Technicians will be assigned sample preparation and general lab duties as needed.
Educational requirements: Analysts must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, biology, environmental or agricultural science, and at least 1 year of relevant analytical testing job experience. Technicians must have a minimum of 2 years of college with coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental or agricultural science and at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
Qualifications
- Chromatography and mass spectrophotometry experience encouraged.
- Highly detail oriented and organized, with an ability to optimize workflows and follow lab SOPs.
- Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task, manage changing lab priorities as required and remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Excellent mathematical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Teamwork oriented with an ability to collaborate effectively on projects and tasks with supervisor and co-workers.
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills with an ability to independently gather information and develop solutions.
- Demonstrate accountability, dependability and integrity in all tasks.
- Proficiency with office and laboratory computer applications, particularly chromatography, mass spec and LIMS software applications.
- Ability to adhere to safety and Quality System protocols in an accredited and regulated laboratory environment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Successful criminal background check required for all applicants.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Sufficient motor skills to perform a variety of routine laboratory tasks, move freely and safely from one location to another in the laboratory; sufficient coordination to collect appropriate samples accurately; dexterity to manipulate lab tools, instruments, and small equipment in a manner consistent with standards of an accredited laboratory practice; lift and move objects of at least 20 pounds.
May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials and some exposure to noxious fumes. This job may include some extended work hours or weekend work, especially during harvest and other busy seasons. May require long periods of sitting or standing.
