The overarching goal of the Center is to conduct objective, theory-driven research and evaluations to guide the development and implementation of programs and policies and improve public health.
CHAMP is hiring for a Research Analyst to support projects related to comprehensive tobacco control program and policy research and evaluation. Comprehensive tobacco control programs include mass reach health communication campaigns, interventions designed to strengthen health care systems, community-based prevention programs, smoking cessation programs, policy advocacy, and ongoing surveillance and monitoring of tobacco use and related measures. Policy evaluation studies involve evaluation planning, study design, overseeing data collection and acquisition of secondary data, managing data analysis and interpretation, and synthesizing findings into summary deliverables that address key policy evaluation questions. The Research Analyst will be involved in research and evaluation projects designed to support each of these areas. The Research Analyst will collaborate with several project teams and will work independently to efficiently manage multiple and overlapping timelines and deliverables. Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health or a related social or behavioral science field plus at least 1 year of experience in tobacco control research/evaluation; or a Bachelor's degree in public health or a related social or behavioral science field plus at least 3 years of experience in tobacco control research/evaluation
- Experience and/or coursework in quantitative and qualitative research methods and analyses
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required)
- Strong writing skills and ability to synthesize analysis results into clearly written scientific reports
- Experience writing scientific/technical research reports (e.g., a master’s thesis, formal reports, manuscripts); a writing sample will be required

We are currently seeking an entry-level Chemist/Laboratory Analyst to provide sample preparation and analytical support to our tobacco research and drug characterization studies. This position will require that you work with controlled substances. Adherence to all associated rules and regulations are mandatory.
Your responsibilities will include the preparation of samples from chemical and botanical compounds, including cannabis and tobacco products, to be used for analysis and shipment to researchers.
This will require the operation of smoking machines used to collect smoke condensate and constituents in tobacco mixtures (shisha) and cigarettes, for analysis. After appropriate training, you will perform laboratory skills including solution and standard preparations, dilutions, extractions, pH analysis, titrations, and chromatography (HPLC, GC) used for qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Additionally, you will:
- Work with team members to plan and execute project tasks to meet established timelines
- Maintain Laboratory Notebooks where applicable
- Record data and results as specified in documentation procedures
- Follow safety requirements and maintain good housekeeping of lab areas
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors level degree in chemistry or related discipline, or an Associates level degree in chemistry or related discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of analytical chemistry.

Responsibilities:

- Direct engagement with study participants to support enrolling and onboarding
- Once COVID-19 related travel restrictions have been lifted by RTI, domestic travel and frequent local field trips for data collection will be required.
- Monitoring health and wellness of incoming data via internal systems and dashboards
- Providing technical support to members of distributed, connected cohorts
- Managing data export from internal systems for data analysis and visualization
- Reviewing published and web-based literature and other information sources
- Preparing summaries, tables, and report sections according to style and format requirements of individual projects
- Presenting research findings to internal audiences, clients, and professional meetings
- Assisting in the development of business proposals (e.g., gathering background information, writing proposal sections)

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health or a related social or behavioral science field (May 2021 graduates will be considered)
- Demonstrated experience in digital health (e.g., smartphones, apps, wearable devices); emerging technologies and novel research methods; public health research and evaluation; and/or sensory-based data collection (e.g., wearables, smartwatches)
- Experience and/or coursework in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
- Comfortable managing uncertainty and identifying the limits of tech used for research
- Good observation and communication skills
- Willingness to self-experiment using new wearables and connected devices
- Interested in the prospect of conducting fast-paced, exploratory pilots
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (e.g., Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required; Proficiency in Visio or OneNote is a plus)
- Strong writing skills and ability to synthesize analysis results into clearly written scientific reports

The Substance Use Trends During COVID19 Pandemic Internship will expose the selected intern to a pilot study that aims to assess substance use trends among young adults during the COVID-19 crisis. We are using established social media listening techniques to determine shifts in mention of the use of alcohol and other drugs (i.e., cannabis, prescription drugs) among young adults before, during, and after the national emergency declaration (March 13, 2020).

HR Directions seeks a candidate for its client, RTI International, for a Molecular Pharmacology of Cannabinoids Internship within the our Analytic Chemistry and Pharamceutics group within our Discovery Science research unit.
The Analytic Chemistry and Pharmaceutics group studies the molecular pharmacology of cannabis/(endo)cannabinoids and the receptors that mediate their effects. We employ a number of techniques including cell culture/expression of recombinant DNA, radioligand binding, FLIPR assays, and immunostaining to investigate how drugs interact with cannabinoid receptors and affect their signaling. group.
Current Project goals include:
- characterization of binding kinetics (Kon, Koff) for orthosteric and allosteric drugs to cannabinoid receptors;
- determination of efficacy at cannabinoid receptors by varying receptor density (pharmacological/siRNA knockdown) and applying operational models of receptor function;
- quantification of allosteric parameters at cannabinoid receptors in structure-activity relationship studies to optimize compounds for their ability to enhance potency or efficacy of endogenous cannabinoids;
- Characterization of minor/uncharacterized cannabis constituents e.g. cannabinoids/terpenes for pharmacology at a range of receptors and ion channels
