Summary

Accountabilities
Responsible for all aspects of growing and plant quality of assigned crops and trials grown at the Syngenta Flowers Gilroy site in close cooperation with breeding, trialing, and marketing teams
Guide and direct the growing process for crops including propagation, transplanting, irrigation, fertilizer, plant growth regulator application, plant maintenance, insect and disease management, and crop scheduling
Supervise Growing Technicians, Growers, and Assistant Growers who are responsible to support growing tasks (transplanting, irrigation, plant maintenance, chemical applications, pot filling, spacing, plant movement, greenhouse maintenance, etc.)
Provide oversight and leadership to supervisors of all teams in general R&D operations
Utilize computer tools to create weekly work schedules based on tasks that need to be executed to grow trials
Solve production problems and deliver optimal crop growing conditions with a focus on producing the highest quality plants possible
Program the greenhouse environmental control computer and optimize the greenhouse environment per crop requirements
Proactively monitor and scout plants for early detection of insects, diseases, and viruses. Develop an integrated pest management strategy
Interpret media and plant nutrient testing results to solve production problems and optimize growing conditions for each crop
Ensure all HSES and phytosanitary protocols are implemented, followed, and enforced
Contribute and update internal growing protocols, procedures, processes and work instructions based on learnings from production experiences.
Train and advise others on best production practices, new technical learnings, and crop maintenance techniques
Collaborate with trial owners to write crop culture schedules and ensure any updates are made in the production scheduling tool
Maintain and update crop activity records, documents, chemical application logs, etc.
Lead weekly greenhouse crop production walks with trial owners, breeders, and growing team to ensure trials are grown according to schedule and making corrective actions
Participate in breeding delivery teams as a representative from the Growing team to ensure crop schedules and plant quality meet specifications

This position is for the Greenhouse General Operations Manager. This position is the Leader for the entire facility - all operations and management fall under this title.
We are presently expanding our operations. The current facility is a 24,000 square foot Nexus Greenhouse that operates as a no-till, living soil operation. The expansion currently under construction will be additional warehouse, indoor & Nexus greenhouse which will give a total of about 60,000 square feet. We also run an acre, with up to 3 acres zoned, for outdoor cultivation.
Our new facility design is COGEN - meaning we will no longer use diesel generators for power, and instead run microturbines to generate power. The overall design is much more sustainable, as we will be using byproducts of the energy generation to provide additional benefits to the greenhouse, thereby reducing energy use and cost.

Solstice was the first commercial producer and processor of medical cannabis in Seattlein 2011, and has been a key contributor to regulatory and process standards over thelast 8 years. Today, Solstice has cultivation and processing headquartered andmanages a growing portfolio of cannabis brands across Washington State. In this role, Solstice is seeking an individual who is versed in the follow key areas: Lean manufacturing principles Horticultural planning and flow – some CEA experience preferred CPG manufacturing experience – raw material and hard good mgmt. Coaching and building leadership - communication, motivation, and motivation ofjunior level management and line level team
This position will train in a management rotation process, assisting in the managementof all operations while also learning the business alongside the CEO. Upon successfulcompletion of training rotation, this position will take over direct management ofcultivation and processing teams. To achieve success in this role, the ideal candidatemust posses an open mind, thirst for continuous process improvement, and unrelentingdrive to win.

Production Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other dutiesmay be assigned:o Work with senior mgmt.. to learn and continue to develop cultivation strategyo Manage and develop cultivation plan in concert with distribution strategyo Cultivation schedule for multiple sites – indoor, greenhouse, and outdooro Manage two Cultivation Managerso Oversight of daily & weekly schedulingo Development and tracking of KPIso Establishment of continuous improvement processo Understand and manage cultivation to raw material transition process: harvest,dry, cure, etc.o Work with senior mgmt. to optimize cultivation canopy size and productivityo Oversee detailed genetic R&D plano Facilitate team execution against key cultivation KPIso 2lbs/light indooro lb/sqft targets for greenhouse & outdooro A/B/C percentage & quality metrics
Processing Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other dutiesmay be assigned:o Work with senior mgmt.. to learn and continue to develop processing strategy todeliver against inventory and distribution targetso Develop and manage detailed manufacturing plan in concert with companystrategyo Processing schedule for one Seattle-based factoryo Manage one Processing Manager and one Inventory Managero Oversight of daily & weekly schedulingo Development and tracking of KPIso Establishment of continuous improvemento Constantly work to improve process flow, increase efficiency, and improvestandard costso Continue to develop QC process to improve product quality, control, andconsistency
General Managemento Effectively manage and motivate team – 5 direct reports & team of 30+o Continuous development of team culture through improved communication,incentives, and balance for junior management and line-level team
Qualifications:o Bachelor’s degreeo 4+ years in food processing, agriculture, or similar industry preferredo Related operations experience – particularly experience building and iteratingprocessing line flowo Experience managing large teams, including development of tactical targets,incentives, and scheduling to achieve goals strategico Excellent communication skills, articulate with strong public speaking ability /experience and excellent writing skills.o Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly proficiency in excelo Ability to work extended hours and non-traditional schedule to provide team withwell planned and managed process flow.
Physical Requirements / Other:o Must be able to drive a car/truck and travel via plane or train; lift up to 45 lbso Frequent travel within assigned area of businesso Primarily office environment but will likely be exposed to cannabis growoperations (indoor, greenhouse, field) warehouse or distribution environment ona frequent basiso Must be able to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach withhands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hearo Must have close vision, distant vision, ability to adjust focus, peripheral and colorvision
