Research Associate-Analytical/Medicinal Chemistry Position

SUMMARY:
The Research Associate is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and evaluating laboratory samples collected during the daily operation of MedPharm Research. MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- The ideal candidate will be passionate about using synthetic chemistry and data analysis skills to solve medicinal chemistry challenges and will excel at working closely with scientists across disciplines
- Bachelor’s degree of science with 5+ years, M.S. with 3+ years, or Ph.D. with 0-1 years' experience in natural products/organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field with a focus on natural product isolation and characterization or experience in small molecule organic synthesis/ characterization and/or drug discovery experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting.

This will be a professional services position within the Data Analytics Division of the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP). This position will be assigned complex research projects with minimal direction and/or supervision. Benson Hill recently opened a new 47,000 square-foot facility that features dynamically adaptive Conviron® growth houses and chambers. These state-of-the-art environmentally controlled grow rooms are equipped with multi-channel LEDs, additive CO2, temperature, humidity and lighting controls providing 2 fold increase in crop cycles annually compared to traditional cropping methods. Position Summary
The Research Associate II - Grower will help oversee growing operations within the Crop Accelerator department including ensuring all equipment used for growing is running optimally and well maintained.
This position assists with oversight of plant care, IPM, environmental monitoring, fertigation and irrigation. Collects technical data and information of plant and greenhouse and grow room performance and can help trouble shoot horticultural automation and optimize processes. Assists headhouse tasks such as automatic and manual flat/pot filling, transplanting, harvesting, drying, threshing, seed sowing, discarding, and sanitation to ensure best plant care practices are implemented.

About the Job
The Research Associate, Plant Breeding is responsible for providing technical leadership for breeding various phenotypes of cannabis strains to be used in various cannabis growing methods (indoor, outdoor, greenhouse). Under guidance from leadership, you will prepare and carry out the breeding programs, by observing, assessing, selection work, data analysis and reporting progress to the VP Cultivation.
What You Will Do
- Phenotype selection, identification, and cataloging of new strains based on market and key opinion leader feedback
- Collect and manage phenotypic data, as appropriate for each breeding pipeline stage
- Seed production of new cannabis strain, from pollen collection, fertilization to seed harvest, sorting, separation, labeling and storage.
- Perform all necessary activities related to the design, execution, and troubleshooting of experiments
- Regularly observe all breeding trials and recent releases to identify issues and opportunities within the breeding selection process
- Manage and maintain genetic holding, parental material and current testing rounds in conjunction with nursery team
- Germination and maintenance of seed stock.
- Coordinate with branding, marketing, etc for upcoming launches
- Responsible for inventory oversight and management of plant stock
- Keep detailed accounts of all activities, research and observations
- Calculate and correctly log data and provide full reports on research findings that may include unusual growth, abnormalities, disease or general plant composition issues

Staff Research Associate II

Schick Lab studies the health effects of air pollution, with a focus on secondhand tobacco and cannabis smoke. We go out to public places where people are using cannabis and collect data and samples of the air pollutants (field research). We also recruit healthy nonsmokers, expose them to air pollution and assess the health effects (clinical research). The Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) will perform field research, collecting air samples and observational data in public places in the greater San Francisco Bay area where people are consuming cannabis. In consultation with the Principal Investigator, Suzaynn F. Schick, the SRA II will identify appropriate events and locations for field research, and prepare air sampling media and instruments. In collaboration with the PI and other staff in the laboratory, the SRA II will transport sampling media and instruments to the field research sites, collect air samples, return them to the laboratory and prepare them for storage and analysis. S/he will record data and summary data from the experiments, assist with data analysis and help prepare reports on the field experiments and on specific chemical analyses.
In the laboratory, the SRA II will operate the secondhand/thirdhand cigarette smoke generation system, including operating the cigarette smoking machine, collecting smoke samples for chemical analysis and monitoring readouts of sampling and control devices. The SRA II will also assist others in the laboratory with their research projects in the laboratory, preparing sample containers and data sheets, and processing biosamples. The SRA II will perform basic laboratory tasks as needed including putting away shipments, sending packages, maintaining equipment, washing glassware and keeping the lab in good order.

The Department of Medicine, with annual revenues of $417 million, is the largest department in the UCSF School of Medicine. Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Conducts, troubleshoots, and analyzes mouse behavioral experiments. These tests might include tasks as varied as the elevated plus maze, novel object recognition, roto-rod, light/dark box, opioid-induced respiratory depression, various analgesia assays, and similar tests as dictated by project requirements.

We are a motivated team that conducts transdisciplinary research exploring factors linked with health and risk behavior in regard to substance use. We seek a full-time Research Associate to contribute to NIH-funded grants on cannabis, opioids, alcohol, and health research. The Associate Researcher is an entry laboratory research position, responsible for conduct of routine and assisting in routine and standardized experiments using techniques specific to the assigned research project under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or a senior researcher. The Associate Researcher position will be focused on studying the developmental effects of cannabis on behavior and neurobiological processes. Candidates should have strong behavioral and computational skills working with complex preclinical behavioral models. Experience in in vivo viral manipulations, chemogenetic behavioral strategies, biochemistry assays and molecular methodologies is helpful. Knowledge of studying high throughput molecular strategies is also beneficial, but not required. Strong experimental and theoretical skills are important as well as good organizational, writing and communicative skills.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Candidate will be responsible for conducting behavioral and molecular studies in rodent animal models of developmental cannabis exposure. This work can involve rodent drug self-administration paradigm and general rodent behavioral models (e.g., locomotor activity, dark-light box, forced swim test)

Responsibilities
This position will serve as an expert resource in industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa) genetics, identifying genetic markers that will facilitate the breeding and selection of industrial hemp cultivators for cannabinoids (CBD, CBC, CBG), fiber, seed-oil, as well as for the production of certified seeds and clones. As a research geneticist/ plant breeder/ horticulturist, the incumbent is required to conduct research that will lead to the development and release of new and improve industrial hemp varieties for the state of Florida and actively involved in the acquisition of external funds.
Provides leadership in forming a multidisciplinary research team and work collaboratively with other faculty members in the college for the establishment of a strong and viable industrial hemp research program.
This position will include some extension related activities in the dissemination of technical information to farmers and stakeholders and conducting research with industry partners.
The incumbent is expected to support and participate in research seminars, professional development programs and also serve on college and university committees, including graduate and undergraduate student committees, and other related activities.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Plant Science/Physiology, Horticulture, Agronomy or a closely related field with expertise in hemp genetics, plant breeding, genomics, and biotechnology. However preference will be given to candidates with a track record of productive research and external funds acquisition and working with multidisciplinary teams.

The Prevention Policy Group is seeking a Policy Research Associate to support the “Getting it Right from the Start: Regulation of Recreational Marijuana” Project.
The “Getting it Right from the Start: Regulation of Recreational Marijuana” project reflects the idea that if cannabis is to be legalized, we should get it right from the start. Policies should be guided by principles of protection of public health and safety, minimizing harms and maximizing benefits as the primary goal of legalization, with consideration of fairness to all groups in society, and recognizing that there is much we do not know and will need to learn over time. Lessons from decades of alcohol and tobacco control should be incorporated into cannabis regulation. In the first year of the project, we gathered information and developed key tools for action, including 3 model laws, which we have been disseminating across jurisdictions in California. We are currently updating the model law for retail and marketing and will seek to maximize the impact of this work in California communities and in other states contemplating legalization, and to track progress.

Heluna Health invites applications for the full-time position of a Community-Based Youth (CBY) Research Associate to perform duties to fulfill the primary objectives of the San Francisco STD Surveillance Network (SSuN) project. The CBY Research Associate will be supervised by the Community Health Equity and Promotion (CHEP) Branch Sexual Health Program Coordinator and work in collaboration with the lead SSuN epidemiologist.
The primary duties of the CBY Research Associate include conducting phone interviews with a sample of SF residents recently diagnosed with gonorrhea and contact the providers who diagnosed them to collect enhanced behavioral, demographic, and clinical information; and administering surveys to patients at the municipal STD clinic.
The CBY Research Associate will be responsible for managing assigned cases, entering data from completed interviews, ensuring collection of clinic waiting room surveys and data upload, and contacting providers by fax or phone to collect additional patient information. The information obtained by the CBY Research Associate will allow the CDC, as well as state and local health departments, to better understand the epidemiology of STDs and to inform national and local STD prevention efforts.
Additional duties will include promoting sexual health as a member of Youth United Through Health Education (YUTHE), a program of the CHEP Branch of SFDPH. The YUTHE Program is a and designed to introduce youth and young adults to the field of Public Health and address health disparities in San Francisco. Staff are trained to promote sexual health using a culturally appropriate approach to help reduce health disparities among African-American youth in San Francisco, as well as help youth and young adults learn how to protect themselves from HIV and other STDs. The goal of the YUTHE program is for participants to gain a wide range of public health knowledge and on-the-job skills and to increase STD screening and other preventive health services among sexually active adolescents in San Francisco in order to ultimately decrease the rates of STDs and reduce health disparities among youth.
This is a full-time, temporary, grant funded, benefited position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health.

Equity Research Associate - Consumer - Beverage, Tobacco & Cannabis

Cowen is looking for an Associate to join its Consumer - Beverages, Tobacco & Cannabis Equity Research team in New York.
The successful candidate will work directly with the Senior Research Analyst and their team on many aspects of the research process including: coordination of work across Cowen research teams on collaborative cannabis industry reports, building and maintaining financial models, performing financial analysis, cannabis industry data aggregation and maintenance, writing investment-driven research reports, developing and fielding industry surveys and undertaking a wide array of industry analyses and competitive assessments. The associate will have broad exposure to company managements, investor conferences, and the research process that professional investment analysts utilize to make investments and recommendations.
The following are the minimum requirements for the position:
- Undergraduate degree in business or a quantitative area if study with a strong GPA
- 2 + years of experience in sell side / buy side research or in the consumer coverage space preferred
- CFA or CFA track is a big plus
- Exceptionally strong financial modeling and Excel skills with a thorough understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and the investment process. Such skills will be tested as part of the interview process
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. As part of the interview process candidates will be asked to provide a writing sample
- Securities licensed preferred (series 7/SIE, 63, 86, 87)
- Proven ability to work well on teams, self-motivated, showing initiative, a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard
