Responsibilities
- Design and implement operational systems to ensure on-time manufacturing, accurate quoting, and forecasting.
- Direct hiring and staff management with executive collaboration and approval, including making organizational chart recommendations required to meet objectives.

Position Overview
Curio Wellness is seeking a Director of Manufacturing with lean management system experience to lead the manufacturing of medicinal products in our state-of-the-art cannabis extraction and manufacturing facility. The scope of operations includes production planning, extraction, processing, packaging, laboratory testing/quality control testing and inventory management functions. A major focus of this position is to drive operational efficiency, meet demanding production schedules to produce products on-time and within budget in a highly dynamic and rapidly growing environment. The position reports to the VP of Manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Execute strategy by establishing clear goals and metrics for the operational teams aligned to corporate financial goals to produce high quality products with increased efficiency and profitability.
- Develop metrics for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Productivity and align team objectives to improve performance.
- Develop manufacturing plans and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing consistent with cGMP operations to ensure that products conform to established quality standards and safety regulations/standards.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a lean management system creating processes that are free of waste and produce products of high quality.
- Set up work cells/teams utilizing continuous single piece flow and standardized work. Engage teams in continuous improvement through daily Gemba Walks, 5S and quality checks as well as kaizen events and daily problem solving.
- Recruit, train, develop, and retain new and current staff. Motivate and coach team members to achieve their best and create an engaged culture in continuous improvement.
- This position is responsible for the P+L of manufactured products and requires close coordination with Sales and New Product Development to ensure stock availability and launch of new products on time and at desired cost.
- Assure compliance with all health and safety standards.
- Ensure that all staff are adequately trained for their job functions to meet regulatory and safety standards for cannabis processing and manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including GLP, GCP and CLIA
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or greater in a technical field or quantitative discipline and/or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operation and/or related industry. A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
- Demonstrated ability to manage operations to established targets
- Ability to schedule and plan workloads, implement systems and projects that align with strategic objectives of the company Demonstrated experience working in a highly regulated environment (ISO, OSHA and FDA) is preferred.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance and basic quality systems under ISO, or related standards is a must.

The Lab Director is responsible and accountable for the production of concentrates and formulated products and all aspects of the tracking and quality control management. Ensures the safe, accurate and timely testing and production of concentrates and formulated products. Coordinates with production schedules and Cure/Vault regarding product inventory and availability. Position Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain extraction operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational policies and procedures.

- Extracting cannabis through various methods and post-extraction processing, to ensure quality oil and terpenes, using some or all of following materials / techniques: CO2, butane, propane, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, ice water extraction, and heat and pressure.
- Position may participate in product development and be responsible for supporting future product launches and methods of extraction.
- Regulatory compliance is an important responsibility of this role as well.
- Must be cautious and follow safety procedures when handling hazardous materials. Process concentrates and extracts.
- Regular cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment and facility.
- Inventory and record keeping of lab equipment. Maintain inventory records of supplies, materials, and temperatures of machinery.
- Assist with laboratory and equipment cleanup. Wash and sterilize lab surfaces and glassware.

Leadership & Duties

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Science and Manufacturing will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will play a key role as part of the executive team. The Director of Science and Manufacturing (the “DSMâ€Â) will be responsible for managing all aspects of operations, including warehousing, processing, extraction, analysis, formulation, packaging, and HS&E (health, safety and environmental).
The DSM will be responsible for the daily functions of the production and analytical laboratory departments including leading extraction, analytical testing, and post processing operations. The DSM will lead, develop and manage both direct and indirect reports in intra and inter-departmental activities.
In this role, the DSM will also collaborate with the QA/QC team and key management in the achievement and maintenance of the company’s quality accreditations and certifications including, but not limited to, cGMP, ISO, SQF, and HAACP.

- Will execute the corporations manufacturing strategy and will prioritize work as required and interact with all the organization's departments to maintain and improve on-time deliveries of product while building customer relationships.
- Will establish and implement Manufacturing Excellence principles to meet and improve upon operational performance and customer requirements.
- Assist in managing manufacturing supervisors and their overall direction, development, activity, and results.
- In collaboration with Human Resources develops and maintains a productive work team by assisting in creating programs for hiring, training, and professional development of hourly and salaried staff.
- Enforce and establish quality, safety, and general work standards and policies aligned with ISO/TS requirements in addition to compliance with all related regulatory agencies, including OSHA.
- Assist in Identifying and improving plant operating costs related to productivity, materials, manufacturing, and reduction of scrap and costs.
- Analyze and lead resolution of manufacturing trends and core issues, participate in planning and recommendation of space, personnel, and equipment.
- Will assist in establishing and maintaining department and capital budgets which help to maximize utilization of materials, machines, employees, and other resources.
- Will work to ensure proper and efficient use of equipment, facility, and manufacturing sites thru effective training and resource management to improve downtime and minimize overall operating costs.
- Travel could be considerable at times (25%-50%)

Qualifications
- Minimum 10-15 years of manufacturing operations experience
- Must have five years experience as Plant Manager in an automotive setting
- Bachelor of Science in Business or Engineering
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong leadership skills capable of managing multiple cross-functional teams and projects.
- Excellent communications skills required as well as have and the ability to work effectively with all other functional groups throughout the organization
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills that will enable the director the ability to lead, motivate, and get results in a matrix organization.
- Required to think strategically in order to adapt to a changing environment.
- The candidate will need to have excellent analytical skills in order to problem solve and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Ability to create and implement cost reductions thru continuous improvement methodologies.
- Customer-focused individual with exceptional problem-solving skills and a strong sense of urgency.
- Able to motivate and lead technical teams
- Experience working with and in a union environment and withing a bargaining unit
