What You Will Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Science or Business Administration plus 2 years of grower relations or agriculture experience OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 years of grower relations or agriculture experience.
- Experience working a minimum of 3 vintages.
- Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Required to drive to various vineyard locations as part of job functions.

JOB SUMMARY: Cultivate, develop, and maintain relationships with hazelnut growers throughout the Willamette Valley.

- Assist in sourcing hazelnuts from growers throughout the Oregon and Washington, with the Willamette Valley being primary focus

The Grower Relations Representative oversees an assigned vineyard territory and partners with grape growers to influence vineyard practices. - Bachelor's of Science degree or Business Administration degree; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 4 years of ag business, viticulture, or grower relations experience.
- Agricultural internship experience or at least one season of prior agricultural experience.
- Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Required to travel to various vineyard locations as part of job functions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
- Required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Required to work long hours during peak season.
- Required to walk through vineyards to monitor crop and overall vineyard health.
- Willing and able to travel within the state for daily requirements and drive for extended periods of time.

Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Grower Relations Representative to join our growing team! This position is to ensure the quality of our Estate and Contracted fruit. This person will work closely with our sister Vineyard Management company (Shannon Ranches) help to create an annual Farm Plan, monitor progress throughout the season, upkeep data, and coordinate with the winemaking and vineyard management team to ensure vineyard cultural practices are performed.
Supply Planning
- Ensure that the agreed percentages of all quality grapes required by Shannon Ridge Inc. are contracted.
- Work with Growers to release or cancel excess fruit if necessary.
- Maintain Vintrace database with accurate and timely records to allow for supply analysis
Negotiations
- Negotiate where necessary new grape supply agreements.
- Negotiate annual grape prices with winegrowers
- Manage the resolution of grower disputes
Grower Relations
Work independently in all aspects outlined below utilizing critical thinking, and a quality mindset to:
- Actively persue any new grower opportunities in accordance with the company’s supply strategy.
- Scout vineyards for pests and diseases
- Work with Growers to ensure grape quality and value are maximized and that good viticulture practices are met

Key Objectives:

Essential Functions:
Viticulture, Technical and Business Relations – 65%
Develop strong business and professional relationships with contracted winegrowers in the Northern Interior and develop relationships with potential growers.
Support Director of Grower Relations and Grower Relations Administrator in the production, delivery and management of contracts and written grower communications.
Develop an in-depth understanding of the viticultural nuances of the Northern Interior region, including aspects of climate and soil and a knowledge of winegrower reputation, affiliations, and attitude. Stay educated on the latest viticultural techniques, organic practices and industry developments.
Promote improved wine grape quality through frequent vineyard visits and knowledge sharing. Monitor and document grower practices and grapevine phenology and advise growers on best winegrowing practices through farm plans.
Create a schedule to ensure that vineyards are continually evaluated for conditions such as rot, mildew, presence of insect pests, disease, vine collapse and vineyard and vine appearance. Collect and review pesticide use reports from growers prior to harvest as well as sustainable and organic certifications. Provide frequent and in-depth vineyard updates to winemakers and managers and organize vineyard tours as requested.
Provide information on wine grape market conditions to senior managers as requested, including information on pricing trends, planting activity and competitor activity.
Crop Estimation – 15%
Collect field data necessary to estimate annual and future yields in contracted vineyards; develop block yield estimates and provide data to Grower Relations Administrator, vineyard managers and management. Manage a database of past estimates and actuals, and component data.
Continually gather and supply up-to-date information on regional crop size and condition.
Harvest Management – 20%
Work with grower relations and winemaking staff to plan and execute harvest logistics to ensure timely delivery of grapes of the proper quality and quantity. During harvest, take sugar samples and monitor grape maturity in the Northern Interior providing information and feedback to winemakers, grower relations department and growers. Hire and supervise seasonal Vit Techs (sugar samplers).
Support winemaking staff in scheduling of harvest for contract growers; provide timely block ripeness and condition assessments; supervise seasonal harvest staff. Manage grower contractual obligations such as contract maximum tons, quality assessments, delivery requirements, etc.
Coordinate and communicate harvest schedule with growers and winemaking staff to ensure all internal partners are current.
Must Requirements:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Viticulture, Enology, Plant Science or related field plus a minimum of two (2) years prior viticulture or vineyard management experience or equivalent education/experience combination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for directing and overseeing general growing activities from pruning to harvest for contracted Growers or Management Companies. Identify opportunities for improvement or pursue new methods and trial work based upon what needs addressing. Support Growers' inquiries related to seasonal practices such as timing of shoot-thinning, canopy management and crop thinning. Address timely discussions related to harvest estimates, potential contract over supply and our needs.
- Oversees annual crop forecasting & grape maturity sampling for Growers and Estate Vineyards.
