Summary
Engages in the development, delivery, and evaluation of research/development outreach programming and training for contract growers and GVI personnel. Responsible for the development of outreach materials and programing including the development and use of emerging electronic technologies and media to communicate best practices and techniques to a broad audience of growers.
Essential Functions

- Participates in the development, delivery, and evaluation of outreach materials and programming for contract growers and GVI personnel.
- Disseminates new technological methods to growers through oral and written communication.
- Manages grower portal activities and content to facilitate communication with growers and information transfer.
- Develops, executes, and analyzes vineyard trials and demonstration projects to drive adoption of best practices.
- Conducts vineyard trials and demonstration projects for GVI and contract grower vineyards.
- Participates in data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results; summarizes data for use in reports and Grower Outreach activities.
- Analyzes, launches, and participates in new vineyard technology solutions and software systems; partners with IT team members to develop user-friendly interfaces.
- Supports Technical Manager in the development of educational materials, technologies, and tools for grower implementation of best practices.
- Review project plans with Grower Outreach team to determine time frame, resource limitations, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
- Participates in the development of recommendations and provide problem solving strategies for grape quality issues in grower vineyards.
- Maintains equipment and infrastructure required for vineyard demonstration trials and other Grower Outreach activities.
- Participates on cross functional project teams within Grower Relations as well as with project partners in other areas of the business including GVI, Winegrowing Research, Wine and Grape Supply, and Winemaking.
- Manages and utilizes software and systems used for data transmission, reporting, analysis, and outreach activities.
- Continuously improves and develops vineyard technical skills.
- Develops outreach skills.
- Stays current with the latest scientific literature; takes initiative to suggest ideas that potentially could contribute to improved outreach efforts and commercial outcomes.
- Recommends and implements improvements and modifications in operations and related matters.
- Ensures the protection of company intellectual property.
- Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Participates in the training, development, coaching, mentoring and hiring of subordinate staff as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree in Viticulture, Biology, Plant Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, or Agriculture plus 3 years of field research, grower education/outreach activities, grower relations or vineyard management experience; or a Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Biology, Plant Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, or Agriculture plus 5 years of field research, grower education/outreach activities, grower relations or vineyard management experience.
- Knowledge of viticulture/vineyard practices.
- Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving recod. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Required to travel to vineyard locations throughout California (occasional over-night travel is required).
- Demonstrated experience to learn and use a wide variety of computer software, including office productivity (MS Word, Excel, etc.), media creation (e.g., Adobe Acrobat), and others.
- Experience with public speaking and writing for various audience levels.
- Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree in Viticulture or Plant Science, Soil Science, Horticulture or Agriculture plus 7 years of grower education/outreach activities experience.
- Proficient in reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language.
- Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business industry periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

The Grower Relations Representative oversees an assigned vineyard territory and partners with grape growers to influence vineyard practices. Builds strategic grower relationships to drive grape quality through grape growing and viticulture practices. Responsible for identifying opportunities to ensure quality and production goals are met. Responsible for locating and sourcing grapes for wine programs.
What You Will Do
- Functions as a liaison between winery and growers, educating them on grape market conditions, quality standards and viticulture practices.
- Develops basic viticultural knowledge.
- Responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and delivery of grapes from the field to winery.
- Develops and maintains vineyard records on cultural practices, yields, and grape quality.
- Monitors all aspects of crop development and forecasts crop tonnages.
- Provides information to growers on viticulture best practices to ensure quality and production goals are met.
- Negotiates some basic and short-term contract terms with guidelines and supervision from leader.
- Travels to grower sites to inspect vineyards, identify improvement opportunities and advise growers on growing practices and changes necessary to mitigate risk.
- Complies with budgetary requirements.
- Oversees the performance of assigned growers and monitors their application of procedure.
What You Need
- Bachelor's of Science degree or Business Administration degree; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 4 years of ag business, viticulture, or grower relations experience.
- Agricultural internship experience or at least one season of prior agricultural experience.
- Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Required to travel to various vineyard locations as part of job functions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
- Required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Required to work long hours during peak season.
- Required to walk through vineyards to monitor crop and overall vineyard health.
- Willing and able to travel within the state for daily requirements and drive for extended periods of time.
