The Horticulture Forestry and Environmental Education Division of Montgomery Parks is seeking a
Container Grower Assistant to join Pope Farm Nursery’s production operation team located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This position is responsible for growing and maintaining native plants to help fulfill plant orders and make recommendations to other park staff to help promote the use of native plants. This expert level position involves the use of various types of equipment, performing varying assignments related to tree and plant production, directing and training other workers in growing operations and performs designated administrative duties as assigned.
Montgomery Parks has 424 parks encompassing 37,000 acres of trails, natural areas, athletic fields, playgrounds, stormwater facilities, a plant production nursery and botanical garden. Montgomery Parks has 45 pesticide free parks where products approved by Montgomery County Law can be used. All 275 Park playgrounds are pesticide free. Staff manages other amenities such as athletic fields, landscape plantings and infrastructure using integrated pest management principles. Examples of Important Duties
- Independently applies horticulture knowledge to grow and maintain plant material, assists in coordinating production schedules, and various tasks related to the work programs.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory database and tracking system for all plant material.
- Implements proper practices for the production of various plants including but not limited to planting, transplanting, monitoring irrigation systems, herbicide applications, pruning, fertilization, and field/soil preparation.
- Operates power hand tools, mowers, tractors and skid steers with various attachments, front end loaders, trucks, utility vehicles.
- Practice IPM principles for plant health care by utilizing alternative treatment methods and/or incorporating pesticides as appropriate in a safe and effective manner according to regulations.
- Keeps accurate records of pesticide applications and follows posting requirements and the use of PPE as set forth by the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
Participates in training of other Parks staff on Horticultural practices and takes part in Park sponsored events such as Arbor Day to promote education and advocacy for the field of Horticulture.
Oversees seasonal staff and/or volunteers to include training, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and maintaining records of hours worked.
Takes a lead role in coordinating and performing the grounds/landscape maintenance of Pope Farm which includes but is not limited to mowing, weed control, mulching, pruning, gravel road maintenance, erosion control, fence maintenance, monitoring facility infrastructure for any needed service.

- Day-to-day assignments and tasks of the Cannabis production cycle.
- Cloning: cutting and transplanting; watering; labeling.
- Plant care during vegetative and flowering phase: trimming, manipulating, staking, big leafing, pruning, watering, plant monitoring.
- Harvesting: cutting plants; weighing.
- Assure that cannabis that is in the process of production, preparation, and manufacturing is protected from insects, dust, and any other contaminates.
- Records temperature and humidity levels as needed and requested by managers.

The Grower is responsible for following standard operating procedures to grow plants to the desired size and quality through all stages of cannabis growth, including propagation, vegetative, flowering, harvest, and post-harvest processing. Duties will include, but not be limited to, watering plants, cleaning equipment, maintaining logs, etc. The Grower may also be cross-trained to support other areas within the Grow/Process facility. This position will be located at our facility in Duncannon.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing tasks in the grow cycle to support production of the highest yielding plants including, but not limited to, mother maintenance, tissue culture, cloning, transplanting, nutrients and pH management, water management, positive airflow, temperature and humidity control, pest and disease control, plant transfer from veg to flowering, etc.
- Monitoring and operating all water/fertigation systems.
- Recording data regarding various growth stages, as well as all mandated requirements set forth by the PA Department of Health through the MJ Freeway reporting software.
- Maintaining an understanding of plant diseases, insects, and fungi; inspect plans for pest and disease issues and, as needed, implement appropriate measures in accordance with PAOFW pest management protocols as well as state and Federal regulations.
- Assisting the harvest and post-processing procedure, including harvest, defoliation, drying, trimming, curing, and other post-harvest related processes.
- Maintaining a clean environment by removing and disposing of all cannabis waste, cleaning, and sanitizing all rooms and tools used daily.

The successful candidate will possess:
- Associate degree in horticulture, botany, or agriculture preferred; or demonstrated experience in legal cannabis cultivation or working in a commercial production facility or greenhouse.
- Proven experience in large scale greenhouse plant cultivation.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Greenhouse Grower will work with the location’s management team to ensure that all aspects of growing processes are operating effectively. The Sr. Grower coordinates efforts aimed at optimizing all aspects of the site’s product growing function throughout the entire growth process, including but not limited to, team management, plant handling, collection and analysis of environmental and production data. A significant component of this position is the ability to design, plan, implement, manage and evaluate growing trials, working closely with the R&D department. This position reports to General Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Responsible for the environmental climate control, overseeing agriculture equipment and instruments, such as heating systems, humidity controls, irrigation systems, fertilizer units, water storage tanks, electrical and computer systems and controls
· Utilizes and integrates new and existing growing technology
· Design, plan, implement, manage, and evaluate growing trials. Working closely with the R&D team.
· Training other growers indoor growing practices.
· Working closely the ‘Centre of Excellence’ to develop the ‘Shenandoah Way’ SOP’s & working practices for indoor growing as well as refining a growing manual for indoor production.
· Oversees crop production in assigned areas
· Analyzes insect and disease conditions and implements appropriate control measures
· Develops crop fertilization plan and oversees fertilization of crops by Growers and Grower Assistants
· Maintains pesticide and irrigation records up to date
· Researches and compiles safety controls procedures
· Performs fertilizers calculations
· Supervises and directs the assigned Assistant Growers and Growers
· Determines biological orders based on scouting and reports
· Works closely with the Site General Manager to achieve maximum growth & crop production
· Responsible for developing seeding plan with the site General Manager
· Assists the General Manager with budget development and expense allocation
· Reports any departmental discrepancies or problems to the site General Manager

Gallo Family Vineyards owns and operates vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, Lake, Solano, Monterey, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Job Summary
The Grower Relations Internship Program is searching for appropriate candidates to fill 3-6 month positions (June-December) within our Grower Relations Department. Coastal Winegrowing/Grower Relations strives to procure the highest quality wine grapes while matching demand for our wide arrange of wines. Interns will support the many different areas of our Grower Relations team including GIS/map building and analysis, grower outreach, crop estimation, pest and disease scouting, harvest scheduling and delivery coordination. The intern’s essential functions are as follows:
- Support all Grower Relations operations.
- Create and maintain reports to track yield estimation, grape maturity and phenology activity.
- Use GPS technology and the Geographical Information System to implement precision farming and map vineyard infrastructure.
- Participate in pest and disease scouting and help draft treatment thresholds for specific pests.
- Assist with harvest activities including maturity sampling, harvest equipment preparation and quality control of fruit.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate.
- Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in the College of Agriculture or College of Sciences; OR have a Bachelor’s degree in the College of Agriculture or College of Sciences.
- Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
- Required to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 12 feet inspecting wine surfaces and on top of grape trucks inspecting loads.
- Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Required to drive to and from varying ranch locations up to 30% of the time.
- Requires availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Ag Business, Horticulture, Viticulture, or Enology.
- Skilled at working with individuals from diverse and varied backgrounds.
- General viticulture knowledge.
- Grape pest and disease identification.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Statistical Analysis (MiniTab, SAS), GPS Mapping and ArcView at a basic level.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Inside/Outside conditions: During crush, work estimated at 80% (50 Hours a week) outside with weather of varying types.
- Applicant is required to climb fixed stairs with handrails and vertical ladders with hoop cages to a height of 12 feet.
- Required to work mostly outside in Dusty/Hot /Cold/Rainy conditions.

Job Summary:
The Grower is primarily responsible for the order, cleanliness, and efficiency of warehouse operations by performing labor work duties.
Duties / Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Day-to-day assignments and tasks of the Cannabis production cycle.
- Cloning: cutting and transplanting; watering; labeling.
- Plant care during vegetative and flowering phase: trimming, manipulating, staking, big leafing, pruning, watering, plant monitoring.
- Harvesting: cutting plants; weighing.
- Assure that cannabis that is in the process of production, preparation, and manufacturing is protected from insects, dust, and any other contaminates.
- Records temperature and humidity levels as needed and requested by managers.
- Plant inspections: collect and record information, use of a microscope, proper sanitation and cleanup of plant areas and inspection equipment.
- Operating, maintaining, and daily upkeep of cultivation systems/equipment; stocking and handling production inputs and supplies; sanitizing and cleaning growing rooms, cultivation work areas and tools.
- Responsible for daily upkeep, sanitation, and cleanliness of other non-grow areas within the cultivation department.
- Informs immediately, Leads or Managers, of any unsafe work conditions.
- Informs Leads or Managers of any problems with equipment in grow areas.
- Participates in training on confidentiality requirements and all OLCC, state and local regulations related to production of recreational cannabis.
- Assists with any government inspections or audits.
- Other duties as required or needed to assist company in meeting production goals.
- Assisting Packaging and Trimming may be needed during peak times.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
