Assistant Growers (AG) are responsible for planting, growing, maintaining, and nurturing high quality plants. General duties also include greenhouse maintenance and upkeep.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Grow greenhouse crops to meet company quality standards. Follow established grow plans and help create best practices for crop sciences. Plan daily irrigation decisions based on workload, crop, and environmental requirements.
2. Integrated Pest Management. AG will scout crops and perform chemical applications to crops that include fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and disinfectants. AG will maintain IPM records in accordance with state and federal laws.
3. Crop Production. Plant crops in designated areas according to greenhouse processes. Pinch and space plants as directed by manager.
4. Pull customer orders accurately and quickly with quality product and according to individual customer quality standards.
5. Monitor quality of incoming and outgoing product. Complete product quality status walks.
6. Operations maintenance of irrigation lines, build and breakdown carts/canopy, installing weed barrier, installing poly roofs on hoop houses, and other tasks as needed.
7. Assist other team members,Team Leaders, and Managers when requested, working at other company sites as needed, and supporting any ad hoc operational projects as requested.
Qualifications

This is a hands-on, year-round position with weekend time required. Initially your shedule will include on the job training and supervision to assist in building knowledge of our systems and learning the ropes.

· Scout and report on disease, insect or environmental problems and address when found;
· Spray and apply fungicides, insecticides, fertilizers and herbicides, as well as biological predator applications according to schedule dictated by Greenhouse Manager;
· Maintain detailed and accurate records of all applications;
· Support greenhouse team in other activities as assigned by Greenhouse Manager;

What you will do:
This position is full time 39 hours/week position. The S05 Greenhouse Grower will work under general direction provided by the Greenhouse Manager and Director of Horticulture. This role will assist the Greenhouse Manager with the daily operations of the Plant Production Facility, which supports horticulture, natural areas, and education programs at Cornell Botanic Gardens.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the care of seasonal plant material to include, but not limited to watering, fertilizing, plant propagation, transplanting, pinching, and pruning with attention to detail.
Maintain greenhouse work areas in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
Monitor greenhouse equipment and environmental conditions and report problems promptly.
Monitor plant health on a regular basis to determine and address nutritional, disease, or insect problems.
Report plant health concerns to the IPM Team.
Ensure that all protocols and procedures to safety requirements are met and Best Management Practices for Cornell Greenhouses are adhered to.
Assist with the care of garden areas throughout Cornell Botanic Gardens with direction provided by horticultural staff and Greenhouse Manager.
Amending soil, pruning plants, clearing brush, weeding, mulching, string trimming, raking leaves and edging.
Check both plant identification and interpretive labels and notify plant records manager of any missing tags.
Complete status change cards recording plant movements into and out of the specified collections, as well as reason(s) for plant loss and failure.
Operate fleet vehicles and small-scale power equipment.
Other gardening related duties as needed, including supporting IPM program and Arboriculture.
This position is full-time (39 hours/week) and will be located in Ithaca, New York.
Required Qualifications:

They will also assist with maintaining our highly recognized orchid display, drawing from a collection of over 6,000 orchids representing over 2,000 different kinds and transporting potted plants to and from growing areas, which involves working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles.
The successful candidates will be effective working as part of a team as well as independently. They will be comfortable with working in hot and cold conditions, have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, sit, stand, walk for long periods of time and carry items as needed to complete assigned tasks. Longwood Gardens has openings for part-time Horticulturist Assistants to join the Greenhouse Production team. Individuals in this position are responsible for assisting with the production of seasonal flowering plants for use in horticultural displays at Longwood Gardens. These individuals will join a team of 12 full-time Growers and 11 part-time Horticulturist Assistants, producing 1,400 unique floral crops in 4.5 acres of greenhouses and container fields.
This is a unique hands-on position requiring attention to detail. The individuals in this position will be involved in all aspects of crop production including: staking, tying, pinching/pruning, sowing seed, sticking cuttings, potting/transplanting, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing, irrigation maintenance, assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas, and grooming of plants as they are prepared for display throughout the gardens. They will also assist with transporting potted plants to and from growing areas, which involves working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles.
The successful candidates will be effective working as part of a team as well as independently. They will be comfortable with working in hot and cold conditions, have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, sit, stand, walk for long periods of time and carry items as needed to complete assigned tasks. Horticulture training preferred. A valid driver's license is required.

Nourse Farms, Inc. is looking for an Assistant Greenhouse Grower to join our team of plant care specialists at our Northfield location. This position directly reports to the Head Greenhouse Grower in Northfield, MA as well as the Greenhouse Manager with primary responsibilities being the daily care of all plants in and around the facilities at Nourse Farms’ greenhouse facilities.
This is a hands-on, year-round position with weekend time required. Initially your shedule will include on the job training and supervision to assist in building knowledge of our systems and learning the ropes.

We are a wholesale perennial greenhouse, looking for someone to help with the care of our plants. They will be helping our grower transplant perennials, pick orders for shipping and move perennial trays from one greenhouse to another. Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for aspects of growing to include watering, fertilizing, and spraying.
- Maintain plant health to meet Dallas Johnson Greenhouse standards.
- Work independently and perform work in accordance with team and company goals.
- Monitor plant development to ascertain conditions such as leaf texture, bloom size, and the existence of pests or disease; removing substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and OSHA policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Greenhouse grower/sales assistant We are a small family farm on Nantucket Island looking for a motivated individual to join our growing and sales team this season. We currently grow a large variety of annuals, perennials, and vegetable starts in our 7 greenhouses. These are sold at our garden center for retail and wholesale sales. In addition we cultivate 20 acres in vegetable and cut flower production. We grow everything from corn and tomatoes, greens, berries and many more which we sell at our roadside vegetable stand, to local restaurants and to our CSA. The ideal candidate could start in mid-March and work through October. We are looking for a candidate with the following skills:
-a degree in horticulture or many years experience working in greenhouses
-knowledge in pesticide and herbicide application, ideally licensed
-working knowledge of annuals and perennials grown in the northeast
-the ability to lift 50 pounds
-good customer service and sales skills
-self motivated and able to take initiative
There is a great variety in the tasks involved with this job. Every day is different, presents many challenges but is fully gratifying as we work outdoors and grow everything that we sell. Tasks include but are not limited to:
-seeding annuals and vegetables
-transplanting seedlings, plugs and bare root plants
-watering and maintaining greenhouses
-weeding and deadheading
-display design and set up
-customer service and sales
-container design
-vegetable harvesting processing and sales
-floral design
