HR Directions seeks a candidate for its client, RTI International, for a Molecular Pharmacology of Cannabinoids Internship within the our Analytic Chemistry and Pharamceutics group within our Discovery Science research unit.
The Analytic Chemistry and Pharmaceutics group studies the molecular pharmacology of cannabis/(endo)cannabinoids and the receptors that mediate their effects. We employ a number of techniques including cell culture/expression of recombinant DNA, radioligand binding, FLIPR assays, and immunostaining to investigate how drugs interact with cannabinoid receptors and affect their signaling. group.
Current Project goals include:
- characterization of binding kinetics (Kon, Koff) for orthosteric and allosteric drugs to cannabinoid receptors;
- determination of efficacy at cannabinoid receptors by varying receptor density (pharmacological/siRNA knockdown) and applying operational models of receptor function;
- quantification of allosteric parameters at cannabinoid receptors in structure-activity relationship studies to optimize compounds for their ability to enhance potency or efficacy of endogenous cannabinoids;
- Characterization of minor/uncharacterized cannabis constituents e.g. cannabinoids/terpenes for pharmacology at a range of receptors and ion channels
