Our greenhouses cover 25 acres under glass + 20 acres of outdoor space in four locations and employ 250 + people year around. We are a premier grower, located in northwest Grand Rapids, and service national accounts in 48 states. As a grower of holiday plants, indoor foliage & flowering, and potted annuals for spring and summer, serving our national big box retailers keeps us constantly striving for new items, better methods and greater efficiencies that will allow us to bring better value to our buyers and end user customers.
Our Mast Young Plants division was formed in 2007, and the partnership of young plants and finished goods gives Neal Mast Greenhouses the unique advantage of ensuring premium quality from beginning to end. The MYP facility has 250,000 square feet of indoor production, producing millions of vegetative liners and seed plugs annually. MYP carries a complete assortment from more than 40 sources of young plant material.

We have a need for an experienced Section Grower. The primary role of the Section Grower is to produce high quality crops within our customer’s specification and ready to ship at the targeted shipping date. By producing a high quality crop on time, we are able to maintain our floor turns and allow our customers to be successful. This position is full time, year around and salary will be commensurate with experience. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be accountable for completing daily tasks on time (including, but not limited to): watering, measuring, pesticide applications, mixing feed, and recordkeeping.
- Crop applications as needed (pesticides, fungicides, etc.)
- Maintain proper moisture requirements for crops using a variety of delivery methods and the equipment provided.
- Use of the Greenhouse Environmental Computer Control System.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Hours/Days: Salaried Position based on 45 hours a week. Weekends and holidays on rotation. Six-day work week seasonally from late February to the end of May (season could vary)
Education: High school diploma. A degree in Horticulture, Plant Science or related field or a combination of at least 3 years of related education and related experience in greenhouse or agriculture. Hold a Restricted Use Pesticide License or able to achieve one within 90 days of hire ( we will allow time for study for this test during working hours as well as pay the fee for the license test). Hi-Lo Certified or able to be certified within 60 days of hire.
Experience: Have a strong desire to grow plants and work in a greenhouse environment. Working proficiency of Microsoft Office applications.
Abilities/Strengths: This role requires a being a team oriented individual and good communication skills. Must be able to manage your time well, be self motivating, flexible and task oriented.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift and/or carry objects up to 50 lb. Must pass respirator fitness exam and be able to wear respirator and personal protective clothing while applying chemicals (including hot weather). Must be able to withstand being on feet for long periods of time. Able to climb and perform tasks on ladders occasionally when needed.

We have a current need for Assistant Growers. The primary role of the Assistant Grower is to help Section Growers, and Senior Growers to produce high quality crops within our customer’s specification and ready to ship at the targeted shipping date. By producing high quality crops on time, we’re able to maintain our floor turns and allow our customers to be successful. This is a good opportunity for someone who is interested in getting into the floriculture field but doesn't have experience. It is also a good opportunity if you are looking for part time. This position can be either full time or part time, depending on what candidates are interested in. We are a year-round operation so part time status is not seasonal, but rather reduced days or hours. Salary will be commensurate with experience and is negotiable. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow instructions of Section Grower assigned by the Senior Grower, or Senior Growers, to provide moisture to the plants as directed.
- Be accountable for completing daily tasks (including, but not limited to): watering, measuring, mixing feed, and recordkeeping.
- Limited Plant Health Care applications as needed (pesticides, fungicides, etc.) under guidance of Section Grower.
- Assisting with the painting of Poinsettia plants (typically done in November) on a painting line.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, such as sticky card reading, cleaning benches, or cleaning tips.
