Position Summary:
To ensure overall quality of medication dispensing procedures of agents dispensed in the SMG Dispensary. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in obtaining prior authorizations and co-pay financial assistance for patients from multiple foundations to facilitate processing prescriptions from the physician dispensary.
Essential Job functions:
The Oncology Physician Dispensary Pharmacy Technician will be expected to demonstrate ability to perform the following:
- Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
- Receives prescriptions and inputs into pharmacy database
- Adds insurance and co-pay information to patient’s profile
- Initiates prior authorizations for prescriptions in-house and prescriptions sent to specialty pharmacies (fax, phone, CoverMyMeds)
- Look at prescribed medication vs. indication for drug to ensure it matches intent of approval
- Initiate prior authorization by phone, fax, CoverMyMeds (this includes having all supporting documentation to complete the prior authorization)
- Specify if the authorization needs to be URGENT or not and submit
- Follow up on prior authorization within 24 hours, and have the Pharmacist re-transmit in QS/1 to determine if it will result in a paid claim
- Document prior authorization approval and dates into QS/1 to prepare for when to submit a new prior authorization request for patients
- Assist patients with financial assistance applications and renewals, including free drug manufacturer programs
- Keep track of all Open/Closed Foundations on a daily basis
- Enroll patients into foundation assistance (via pharmacy/physician portals or by paper application)
- Keep a record of all active patients on financial assistance
- Receives patient’s household income and number of people in household for required eligibility of financial income
- Renews the patient’s application at time of ended balance, or end of grant timeframe
- Updates price uploads from Oncology Supply into QS/1
- Maintains inventory in QS/1
- Ordering of drugs and supplies
- Runs reports for appropriate daily logs needed to be signed by pharmacist
- Maintains files of prescriptions in order of date processed, including refill logs
- Audits prescriptions on a weekly basis
- Maintains signatures from patients picking up their prescriptions
- Maintains Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse guidelines and procedures
- Collects payments of copays from patients
- Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials following OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
- Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for missing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
- Conduct routine medication inventories including monitoring for drugs expiring, and assist with inventory control of medications in the dispensary.
- Assist in ordering supplies and medication. Receive and restock medications.
- Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) temperature logs, waste logs, expired and destroyed medication logs, and others.
- Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed.
- Comply with the Summit Medical Group incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Summit Medical Group training and accomplishments as required per policy.

Responsibilities
- Maintains strict inventory controls to ensure full, comprehensive regulatory compliance.
- Receive product from vendors and maintain inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed products, and making recommendations to GM for ordering.
- Sort, label, stock and perform inventory audits for all products.
- Process orders and ensure all information is complete and accurate.
- Comply with all security measures and quality standards.
- In partnership with the General Manager, order and replenish existing medicated product inventory and pass purchase orders to COO for approval.
- Have a comprehensive knowledgeable of all products, of the cannabis industry, and of any relevant cannabis-related subject matter.
- Be knowledgeable of all specials or promotions, including in-store weekly/daily deals.
- Participate in staff events, outings, and promotional events.
- Be active on company social media (sharing, liking, and posting all content shared on Terrabis social media accounts).
- Read industry publications to keep up to date on current / future trends in the industry.
- Ensure you are early or on-time for all shifts and any mandatory events or meetings.
- Ensure your uniform is clean and that you are prepared for your scheduled shift.
- Assist with running side work, stocking, and cleaning, patient areas, breakroom, patient/employee restrooms, disposing of trash and sanitizing work/common spaces during all downtime.

Qualifications
- 1+ years of Pharmacy Tech experience.
- A strong understanding of necessary math concepts.
- High school diploma, or equivalent.

- Desire to continuously learn (more) about cannabis, cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, and cannabis therapies previous knowledge a HUGE plus!
- Ability to listen well and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with various audiences.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and email.
- Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
- In accordance with established procedures, prepares drugs and medications based on prescriptions, selecting the pharmaceutical or accessory from stock and count, pour, calculate, reconstitute, compound, package and label the product as required. - Ensure that medication storage adheres to the manufacturer’s recommend conditions such as temperature and humidity levels.
- Cycle count, replenish stock and verify controlled substance waste records for automated dispensing machines.
- Compound sterile and non-sterile dosage forms in accordance with USP standards and Medication Dispensary SOPs.
- Assist in the training of veterinary residents and interns, veterinary (DVM) students, veterinary technician students, pharmacy (PharmD) students, and veterinary technicians on Medication Dispensary procedures, state and federal regulations and required recordkeeping. Provide training for the Cubex system.
- Recognize the normal range of medications and initiate necessary corrective action.
- Assist with the management of stock and supplies. This includes, but is not limited to, physically stocking products in the Medication Dispensary as they arrive and removing expired product.
- Accept payments where applicable and add ward stock charges to service accounts as required.
- Package and prepare medications and supplies for mailing.
- Maintain cleanliness of Medication Dispensary area and equipment.
- File, label and organize Medication Dispensary documents and products as directed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Persons allergic to animal dander, hay, or straw may experience discomfort due to the location within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position includes working at counters, tables, and shelving. Position involves moving 5-gallon carboy containers that may weigh up to 50 pounds to stock shelves and move supplies to the counter for delivery persons needing them. Handles glassware and medications stored in glass.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.

Essential Job functions:
The Oncology Physician Dispensary Pharmacy Technician will be expected to demonstrate ability to perform the following:
- Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
- Receives prescriptions and inputs into pharmacy database
- Adds insurance and co-pay information to patient’s profile
- Initiates prior authorizations for prescriptions in-house and prescriptions sent to specialty pharmacies (fax, phone, CoverMyMeds)
- Look at prescribed medication vs. indication for drug to ensure it matches intent of approval
- Initiate prior authorization by phone, fax, CoverMyMeds (this includes having all supporting documentation to complete the prior authorization)
- Specify if the authorization needs to be URGENT or not and submit
- Follow up on prior authorization within 24 hours, and have the Pharmacist re-transmit in QS/1 to determine if it will result in a paid claim
- Document prior authorization approval and dates into QS/1 to prepare for when to submit a new prior authorization request for patients
- Assist patients with financial assistance applications and renewals, including free drug manufacturer programs
- Keep track of all Open/Closed Foundations on a daily basis
- Enroll patients into foundation assistance (via pharmacy/physician portals or by paper application)
- Keep a record of all active patients on financial assistance
- Receives patient’s household income and number of people in household for required eligibility of financial income
- Renews the patient’s application at time of ended balance, or end of grant timeframe
- Updates price uploads from Oncology Supply into QS/1

- Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials following OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
- Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for missing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
- Conduct routine medication inventories including monitoring for drugs expiring, and assist with inventory control of medications in the dispensary.
- Assist in ordering supplies and medication. Receive and restock medications.
- Maintain any necessary QA logs, including (but not limited to) temperature logs, waste logs, expired and destroyed medication logs, and others.
- Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed.
- Comply with the Summit Medical Group incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Summit Medical Group training and accomplishments as required per policy.

Under the direction of the COO or Pharmacist in Charge, the distribution Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing, filling and distributing prescriptions according to client orders/specifications, maintaining equipment and inventory in the pharmacy and record keeping related to patient and drug information.
- Receives electronic prescriptions, weekly batches or refill requests and accurately and efficiently fills the prescriptions under the direction of the Pharmacist. Performs pharmacy tasks such as handling, counting, mixing and packaging medications.
- Is responsible for selecting and importing orders for automation equipment dispensing, printing labels, and order management required to dispense prescriptions. Operates and monitors robotic machines that dispense medications.
- Assists in entering minor edits to record correct dispensing quantity and manufacturer NDC used to dispense prescription order.
- Prepares blister packs.
- Prepares and stages pharmaceutical supplies and drugs in the correct bins for delivery.
- Performs reclamation duties.
- Uses pharmacy software to check and/record data about prescriptions.
- Maintains proper storage and security conditions for the drugs. Cleans and helps to maintain equipment and work areas.
- Receives, stores and logs inventory and returns (upon Pharmacist approval), verifies quantities against invoices, and informs supervisors of stock needs or shortages. Remains aware of expiry dates and rotates stock to avoid dispensing out of date products.
- Uses pharmaceutical technician expertise to ensure compliance, efficiency and quality of operations. Participates in company quality initiatives, recognizing opportunities for improvements and reporting quality assurance issues. Secures information in accordance with the privacy and security guidelines of the Company and applicable regulations such as HIPAA.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Current NJ Technician registration.

Responsibilities
- Maintains strict inventory controls to ensure full, comprehensive regulatory compliance.
- Receive product from vendors and maintain inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed products, and making recommendations to GM for ordering.
- Sort, label, stock and perform inventory audits for all products.
- Process orders and ensure all information is complete and accurate.
- Comply with all security measures and quality standards.
- In partnership with the General Manager, order and replenish existing medicated product inventory and pass purchase orders to COO for approval.
- Have a comprehensive knowledgeable of all products, of the cannabis industry, and of any relevant cannabis-related subject matter.
- Be knowledgeable of all specials or promotions, including in-store weekly/daily deals.
- Participate in staff events, outings, and promotional events.
- Be active on company social media (sharing, liking, and posting all content shared on Terrabis social media accounts).
- Read industry publications to keep up to date on current / future trends in the industry.
- Ensure you are early or on-time for all shifts and any mandatory events or meetings.
- Ensure your uniform is clean and that you are prepared for your scheduled shift.
- Assist with running side work, stocking, and cleaning, patient areas, breakroom, patient/employee restrooms, disposing of trash and sanitizing work/common spaces during all downtime.
- Perform other duties or projects, as assigned by managers.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of Pharmacy Tech experience.
- A strong understanding of necessary math concepts.
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- Detailed oriented.
- Desire to continuously learn (more) about cannabis, cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, and cannabis therapies previous knowledge a HUGE plus!
- Ability to listen well and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with various audiences.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and email.
- Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, personnel law, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures.

CareKinesis PACE Pharmacy Technician will collaboration closely with assigned PACE organization, their provider affiliates (Assisted Living Facility partners, provider network, others), and the CareKinesis Pharmacy Operations, Quality, and Client Development teams.
PACE Pharmacy Technician will serve as a Client ambassador for CareKinesis and a champion for the partnership with PACE frontline medication management operations.
Responsibilities:
Assist with ongoing pharmacy needs of PACE contracted ALF partners, included but not limited to:
- Ongoing training and support on pharmacy operations for new and existing staff
- Troubleshooting and collaborating to address any pharmacy concerns of the ALFs
- Phone calls to ALFs regarding participant medication refill needs
- Complete medication deliveries to facilities as needed
- Collaborate with PACE and CK team to ensure PACE ALF partner needs are assessed ongoing and addressed in a timely manner
- Facilitate access & whitelisting of providers newly added to network
- Provide overview and process training to providers as needed
- Conduct phone and email outreach to providers to obtain prescription information and clarification as needed
