Neighborhood Health is an innovative network of 12 community health center in Nashville and Lebanon, Tennessee. The
Dispensary/Pharmacy Technician assists in providing pharmaceutical care to the patient by preparing, storing, labeling and distributing medications in a safe, accurate and timely manner in accordance with clinic policies and procedures and state and federal law. Performs other technical and administrative duties as necessary for the daily operation of the Dispensary. Must be able to work in a Patient Centered Medical Home model. Must facilitate partnerships between patients, physicians and health teams with focus on care coordination and integration of treatment internally and externally. Must work diligently to assure that services are accessible, continuous, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate, and culturally effective. Must be committed to eliminating barriers to care that is centered on the needs and convenience of patients above all other factors.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED, be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Tennessee, must have certification as Certified Pharmacy Technician, and maintain basic life support certifications.
SALARY GRADE AND CLASSIFICATION: Hourly/Non-exempt
RESPONSIBLE TO: Direct report to Director of Pharmacy Services; Indirect report to Clinic Director
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintains medication inventory and stock supplies in the Dispensary and throughout UNHS

Receives and verifies inventory received against the invoice noting any exceptions and communicates these to Director of Pharmacy Services; stock the shelves, rotating stock appropriately;

Maintains proper storage and security conditions for pharmaceuticals and other pharmacy supplies;

Communicates potential supply issues to Director of Pharmacy Services in a timely manner;

Performs inventory control by checking expiration dates of medications on a monthly basis.
Maintains accurate documentation, labels, dispenses, and packages medications

Selects medication from appropriate inventory after receiving prescription from provider;

Fills bottles with prescribed medications, writes and affixes the prescription label containing all required information;

Records medication dispensed in the corresponding dispensing log;

Files prescriptions that have been filled;

Ensures that medications are only dispensed after licensed clinician (Registered Nurse, NursePractitioner, Physician, Pharmacist) has given the final check to the accuracy of items being dispensed;

Provides medication information sheet and Medication Guide to patient as necessary;

Assists patients with simple questions, locating items or referring them to their Provider or the Pharmacist for medication information.
Other Duties

Assists with answering dispensary telephone as needed in a professional manner

Makes recommendations for changes to the policies and procedures to the Director of Pharmacy Services or Clinic Director

Maintains and cleans the equipment necessary to perform duties, reporting any failures or need for repair to Clinic Director or Director of Pharmacy Services immediately

Regular and Reliable attendance is required; Must be able to work in a team environment.
DECISION-MAKING: Moderate supervision
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: Must be able to stand, stoop, bend and reach for a considerable amount of time; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, fast-paced environment, especially in dealing with urgent care situations
