Position Summary:
The Accountant-Bookkeeper will work under the supervision of the CEO/Manager. An Accountant-Bookkeeper for Dr. Green Thumb's San Diego (DGT) is an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team in a young Cannabis company. Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in all areas of accounting and data entry. The candidate must also have 3 years or more in QuickBooks and be proficient in Excel and Word. The Accountant-Bookkeeper is responsible for Bank Recs, Sales Tax, Audits, Vendor Payment, Cash and Credit Card reconciliation and employee Tips accounting, Invoice management, Payments to vendors, Monitoring cash register-sales reconciliation, Maintaining Office supply budgets, and Categorizing Income and Expenses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides budgeting and accounting reports, as requested by the CEO/Manager
- Uses Quick-Books and Excel to develop accurate and timely company fiscal reports on company income and expenses
- Works directly to support accounting of Purchasing Manager’s purchases through vendors
- Oversees daily accounting of cash and credit card revenues
- Provides a bi-monthly report of credit card and cash tips for payroll to employees
- Demonstrates experience with best practices in accounting and bookkeeping
- Processes all accounting functions related to sales, invoices, and weekly sales reports
- Has ability to review and report on banking records for DGT’s accounts
- Monitors vendor Inventory costs lists for product options
- Able to account for all vendor purchases and payments
- Works directly with vendors and clients as is related to Invoices and payments and accounting practices
- Confirms wire transfers and bank records
- Maintains a professional relationship with vendors
- Reconciles orders within intake system, deposits checks and resolves related accounting issues as may arise.
- Works with Purchasing-Manager and purchaser-buying department, confirming vendor names and agreements, terms and legal contractual terms for invoices and payment purposes
- Processes monthly payment of bills and provides expense reports on a monthly basis and on demand
- Expedites daily journal entries to record check and cash deposits, expenses and transfer of funds.
- Informs CEO/Manager about issues with payments, accounts, budgets or any other accounting issues as they arise
- Orders supplies for administrative office within budgeting requirements
- Works with Human Resources Manager to provide payments and account for employee payroll situations when necessary
- Other Bookkeeper-Accounting Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge and experience with 3 years or more with Quick-Books (desktop and online), be proficient in Excel and Word, ERP systems is expected
- Past experience with a Cannabis business is a plus
- Prior office management experience is a plus
- Evidence of 3 years or more of experience with solid data entry practices
- Knowledge, organization and attention to accounting details
- Honest and reliable when working with money.
- Per state law, must be at least 21 years of age.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a range of financial roles for all arms of our operations, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, budgeting, and reconciliations. Product cost accounting experience or knowledge within Cannabis environment is essential.
Reporting to the CEO, this position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented, high energy and motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit, who is looking for a long term opportunity growing with an emerging leader in manufacturing cannabis concentrates. Will start as a Part Time contract role that is intended to become a permanent team member as the business grows.
The Accountant will have superior problem-solving, quantitative and analytical skills, and be responsible for all aspects of the cost accounting duties for the company to determine product cost and manage inventory/COGS capitalization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for all aspects of cannabis product costing and financial management of COGS.
- Monitor, analyze and report on cost trends of inventory and raw materials, to interpret overall cost of goods sold and margin variations, including analyzing manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Maintain accurate cost accounting records for cost of goods sold.
- Assist with annual budget process, including development of production cost centers, labor budgets, activity rates and overhead to be used in standard costing
- Work on the preparation of various month-end/year-end reports and schedules including inventory reconciliations, journal entries, cost of goods sold analysis, inventory on hand reports, etc.
- Manage inventory costing and related activities; analyzing production variances and providing insight into inventory cost fluctuation
Position Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or similar field preferred
- 5-7 years of relevant cannabis Accounting experience
- Strong Excel knowledge and aptitude
- Previous experience with Xero
- Knowledge and experience with COGS in 240e environment
- CPA Designation a plus
