Role Overview
Asceend is looking for an experienced Human Resources Administrator who can support the Cultivation operation with a variety of tasks. Main responsibilities for this role include: recruiting, hiring and on-boarding employees, updating HR files, writing and administering disciplinary write ups to employees, and remaining up to date on state and federal human resources laws as they relate to the cannabis cultivation field. You will coordinate heavily with the Office Administrator and Cultivation Administrator to execute a variety of tasks and projects throughout the cultivation facility.

· Performs on-boarding tasks, including processing new hire paperwork, coordinating Payroll and IT set up (if applicable), creating employment files, updating phone lists and I-9 verification.
· Maintains inventory of company uniforms and employee badges.
· Assists in tracking and updating records for required licenses and certificates, employment status, promotions, performance management, authorized company drivers, etc.
· Performs various HR compliance tasks, including distributing employee notifications, postings, updating packets and forms.
· Assists Accounting with Payroll Preparation, (approving and closing open timesheets, time off requests, etc.) at the end of each pay period.
· Assists in maintaining all required employment and other HR files, records and documentation, including general filing.
· Completes EDD claims, with approval from management.
· May take initial Workers’ Compensation Claim information, Leave of Absence information, or Employee Relations Issue information. This information will then be brought to CFO.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· A minimum of one to two (1-2) years’ work experience in a Human Resource administrative role.
· Computer: Advanced in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
SKILLS:
· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
· Visibility of work requires attention to detail, excellent organization skills and excellent time management skills.
· Effective at multi-tasking and producing a large quantity of output required.
· Able to maintain high level of confidentiality always.
· Represents the Company at a high standard consistent with our employee handbook, core values and desired culture.
· Basic math skills

Responsibilities
Human Resources
- Onboard new employees implement basic training, manage forms, coordinate IT needs
- Input all new employees into payroll provider platform and set up applicable and necessary deductions; maintain physical backup files
- Collect new employee healthcare forms (application or waiver) and transmit to benefits provider
- Add new employees to company Life Insurance policy; remove employees when ceasing employment
- Update healthcare provider of any changes in employee status
- Address employee benefits questions
- Keep track of employee changes on an Employee Change of Status Form (e.g., raises, promotions, department changes, address changes, direct deposit changes)
- Assist with personnel issues / discipline
- Maintain Employee Handbook
Payroll
- Process payroll
- Audit employee time-sheets at least twice a day, review in/out punches looking for discrepancies. Address discrepancies
- Update the attendance record sheet daily, showing when employees were tardy, absent, or left early
- Process all Time Off Request forms in a timely manner
- Handle all tax / wage garnishments / disability / workmans comp / unemployment claims, appeals, and hearings
- Distribute paychecks to each manager
- Assist employees requesting copies of pay stubs, or with related questions (e.g., time off, deductions)
- Make appropriate changes in payroll platform when an employee resigns or upon termination
- Liaise with payroll contractor daily on inquiries and changes regarding payroll processes
- Suggest improvements to payroll process and work with vendor to implement
State Compliance
- Ensure that all new employees are set up with the appropriate state-mandated appointments
- Maintain an accurate census of all employees and subcontractors
- Keep track of license renewal dates for all employees; ensure licenses are current
- Inform the state of any employee change in status
- Request new badges for all new hires
Recruiting
- Help prepare and post job listings
- Help coordinate job fairs / events, including finding locations nearby that would be suitable
- Assist with recruiting tools and screening administration
General Administrative
- Maintain a company telephone directory with all employees numbers
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Research, interview, and evaluate new staffing agencies
- Manage temporary employee time-sheets and communications with temporary staffing agencies
- Other tasks as requested
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Bachelor's degree and/or at least 2-3 years of HR experience
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent prioritization and time management skills
- Strong computer skills, especially Word, Excel, Outlook
- Thrives when performing job duties in a fast-paced environment; stays even-keeled during stressful times
- Facility with math; comfortable compiling and organizing number data
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 25-30 pounds
- Can physically tolerate cannabis-related odors
