This position will support testing efforts in the South Dakota Public Health Laboratory Environmental Section. The main focus will be testing water from various sources and cannabis products using a range of simple and complex Microbiological test methods such as PCR, Multiple Tube Fermentation (MPN), and culture media. Depending on experience, this position may be required to become certified by the EPA to be a Laboratory Auditor specializing in microbiology. Additional duties may include being a backup in the Inorganic area of the chemistry section and working with wastewater and cannabis plants and products.
This position works in the State Public Health Laboratory. It may work with various types of water, such as drinking and wastewater, plants and plant products, acids, bases, and corrosives. A working knowledge of universal precautions, biological, chemical, and occupational safety is also required since the position may require the use of personal protective equipment, including gloves, gown, face shield, respirator, and other equipment. It requires standing for several hours a day. The incumbent must have a valid driver's license and be capable of traveling within the State of South Dakota.

We are seeking a full time Senior Microbiologist to join the team. This position will be based in Denver, CO. The Senior Microbiologist will perform and/or oversee the routine and non-routine day to day operations within the Laboratory. He/she will perform supervisory duties as delegated by the Microbiology Supervisor.
Testing Personnel Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and non-routine testing and analyses using the appropriate qualified equipment

Essential functions:
Technical
- Conducts advanced analysis using a variety of technologies including qPCR/PCR and plating, along with other methods, to quantitatively and qualitatively identify microorganisms in a variety of matrices.

Fast growing Cannabis Testing Laboratory in Downtown Los Angeles is looking for an experienced microbiology lead.
- Oversees the performance of microbiological tests on cannabis related samples and implement new methods
- Organize departmental daily work activities by priorities
- Coordinate with chemistry lead to plan the preparation of samples upon arrival in the facility
- Ensures that microbiology department maintains clean and safe work environment by adequately training microbial technicians in aseptic methods and protocols; following standards and procedures; and complying with legal regulations (Cal-OSHA, BCC)
- Preparation and control of process quality control organisms via strict adherence to company policy
- Data management and verification of data produced via real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction prior to official reporting
- Document results and quality control procedures and enter data in LIMS
- Execution of excellent communication skills in order to facilitate productive conversation with scientist, analyst, and other personnel
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations
- Develop new microbiological methods not currently online at the laboratory and write standard operating procedures for them in conjunction with state regulations
- Follow strict Quality Assurance operations according to state regulations
- Must be able to ensure that the department obtains traceable, reproducible, and reliable results during day to day operations
- Monitor inventory and supplies
Experiential Qualifications:
- **A master's degree or a bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university and 2+ years of experience as a microbiologist
- **Completed 2 years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4+ years of full-time practical experience
- Hands on experience in an analytical cannabis laboratory
- **Experience with qPCR, PCR, microarray, and/or sequencing
- Prokaryotic and eukaryotic genetics background a plus
- Experience in cannabis product development or analytical method development
- Experience working within a regulated environment (ISO 17025, GLP, and/or GMP)
- **Experience performing method validation
