Lab Link Testing is a start-up cannabis safety and compliance testing laboratory in Madison Heights, Michigan that will provide analytical chemistry and microbiology testing services for cannabis cultivators, processors, and manufacturers as mandated by the State of Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA). This cutting-edge laboratory is fully equipped with brand new instrumentation throughout, featuring the latest evolutions in analytical testing technology. In addition to the implementation of robust, manufacturer validated analytical testing solutions, Lab Link will utilize industry best-practices to become a leading provider of cannabis testing.
We have positions available for both Senior and Junior Analytical Chemists, depending on experience. The Senior Analytical Chemist will be a supervisory role, with Junior Analytical Chemists I and II reporting to them. The responsibilities for these roles include tracking of sample queue, batching and scheduling analytical runs, preparing and/or extracting samples for analysis, instrument analysis, reporting data and results, entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Michigan's statewide seed-to-sale marijuana tracking system Metrc, method development and validation, SOP and work instruction authoring, completing logs, maintaining a contamination free lab environment, and ensuring the adherence to the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency testing guidelines, as well as ISO 17025. Experience in the operation and maintenance of various laboratory instrumentation including but not limited to: UPLC/HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS-MS, ICP-MS, is required.

Direct Report: Laboratory Manger
Supervises: Junior Analytical Chemist I and II reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist.

Basic Qualifications:
Employee must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
At least 1 year of experience in an analytical laboratory including preparing and analyzing samples as well as interpreting data from one or more types of analysis: GC-MS, LC-MS-MS, ICP-MS, or UPLC/HPLC.
Solid understanding of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, protocols, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is required with 1+ years of related analytical laboratory experience, OR Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college or university with 2+ years of relevant cannabis laboratory experience. Candidates with experience in a production laboratory environment will be given preference.

Essential Functions:
Technical:
·Carry out extractions and prepare samples of various matrices for analysis on UPLC/HPLC, LC-MS-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and others.
Responsible for tracking and prioritizing consumable and sample inventory to ensure no interruption of workflow.
·Prepare various standards and solutions as needed. Pipetting experience very important.
·Maintain all relevant records and documentation.
·Performs other job-related tasks (within the scope of experience and training) as specified by the laboratory manager/director.
·Knowledge of the review and quantification of data that is generated from the instruments.
·Interpret and evaluate QA/QC + sample result data to ensure compliance with quality control specifications.
·Review and enter completed test data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Michigan's statewide seed-to-sale marijuana tracking system Metrc.
Trains cross-functionally and maintains an understanding and knowledge of the other analytical methods employed throughout the laboratory.
Establish routine preventive maintenance schedules and perform troubleshooting activities on instruments and equipment to ensure data integrity and prevent interruptions to workflow.
Compliance and Safety:
Participates in routine QA/QC and compliance activities including proficiency testing, demonstrations of competency, audits, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
·Learns and maintains compliance with all applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Quality Management System, Compliance Process, Company Code of Conduct, and State of Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency Testing Guidelines.
·Performs work in a consistently safe manner, with knowledge of laboratory safety protocols to prevent injury due to chemical or biological hazards.
·Track KPIs and contribute to management reviews.
·Participates in the development and validation of new methods to respond to changes in current best practices, technologies, regulatory framework, or customer needs.
·Author and review technical documents such as SOPs and work instructions.
·Perform investigations into non-compliance issues and root cause analyses on contested samples, corrective actions, or other non-conformities.
Provide scientific interpretation of results to supervisors, management, or customers as required.
·Trains other chemists as required.
·Maintain appropriate records, logs, and documentation.

There are positions available for both Senior and Junior microbiologists, depending on experience. The microbiologist position will be primarily responsible for all microbiological qualitative and quantitative testing and data analysis as well as ensuring the adherence to the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency testing guidelines, as well as ISO 17025. Essential functions:
Technical
- Conducts advanced analysis using a variety of technologies including qPCR/PCR and plating, along with other methods, to quantitatively and qualitatively identify microorganisms in a variety of matrices.
- Determines if samples are suitable for testing according to established acceptance criteria.
- Preparation of various controls, test solutions, and reagents.
- Establish systems for proper storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of various test solutions, potentially biohazardous and hazardous waste, and microbiological cultures.
- Carry out serial dilutions and quantify target microorganisms according to established standard operating procedures.
- Receive and approve samples and input test results, data, and documentation into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Michigan's statewide seed-to-sale marijuana tracking system Metrc.
- Interpret and evaluate QA/QC and sample result data to ensure compliance with quality control specifications.
- Responsible for tracking and prioritizing consumable and sample inventory to ensure no interruption of workflow.
- Provide scientific interpretation of results to supervisor, management, or customers as required.
- Perform routine cleaning procedures as necessary to maintain sterile work area and to ensure ongoing proper contamination-free workflow.
- Establish routine preventive maintenance schedules and perform troubleshooting activities on instruments and equipment to ensure data integrity and prevent interruptions to workflow.
- Train incoming analysts and technicians on SOPs, best practices, and test methodology.
- Research new technologies and test methods to improve laboratory performance and make recommendations to supervisors.

- Maintains compliance with all applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Quality Management System, Compliance Process, Company Code of Conduct, and State of Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency Testing Guidelines.
- Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and assists with implementation of corrective action plans.
- Reports any concerns and potential non-compliance issues to the Quality Manager and/or Laboratory Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural, Environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is required with 1+ years of related experience, OR Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college or university with 2+ years of relevant cannabis laboratory experience. Candidates with experience in a production laboratory environment will be given preference.
- Documented qPCR and traditional culturing experience.
- Basic knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, protocols, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting required.
- Must pass required background check.
Desirable Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to effectively work, problem solve, and communicate with multiple levels of the organization.
- Food science and/or environmental experience is a plus.
- Exposure to the cannabis industry.
- Some experience working with a LIMS is preferred.

Chief Science Officer Responsibilities:
- Oversees the performance of microbiological tests on cannabis-related samples and implement new methods
- Coordinate with chemistry lead to plan the preparation of samples upon arrival in the facility
- Ensures that the microbiology department maintains a clean and safe work environment by adequately training microbial technicians in aseptic methods and protocols; following standards and procedures; and complying with legal regulations (Cal-OSHA, BCC)
- Preparation and control of process quality control organisms via strict adherence to company policy
- Data management and verification of data produced via real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction prior to official reporting
- Document results and quality control procedures and enter data in LIMS
- Execution of excellent communication skills in order to facilitate a productive conversation with scientist, analyst, and other personnel
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations
- Develop new microbiological methods not currently online at the laboratory and write standard operating procedures for them in conjunction with state regulations
