SCOPE:
The Analytical Chemist is the laboratory’s ICP-MS Mass Spectrometry expert who works under the direction of the Science Director. The incumbent is responsible for the operation, workflow, and supervision of the chemistry section.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains an effective culture of laboratory safety.
- Keeps Laboratory Director informed of daily production progress.
- Responsible for method development for all chemistry assays. Plan, develop, and validate new analytical methods in accordance with DCC, AOAC and other applicable standards. Update SOP to reflect method and workflow changes.
- Responsible for the operation of the analytical equipment to include; ICP-MS, Load and run analytical equipment; Analyze batch output for conformity to SOP; Perform preventive maintenance on analytical equipment.
- Responsibly manages the consumable and capital resources of the section and reports the needs to the Science Director and Laboratory Director.
- Proactively communicates needs and issues with Science Director and Laboratory Director and other corporate staff
- Demonstrate risk assessment and consideration of evidence with every decision, and appropriately prioritizes work.
- Develops, validates, monitors, and enforces Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Updates SOPs with necessary changes and revisions while ensuring proper document control.
- Ensures that the methodologies used for each of the tests performed in the section are adequate and suitable for the respective matrices, and that results are accurate and reliable.
- Analyzes test results to generate and report Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to clients within established Turnaround Times (TAT).
- Completes Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and Preventative Action Reports (PARs) when necessary.
- Ensures that the laboratory and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical and biological hazards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will possess:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related filed.
Experience working in a regulated laboratory with a strict QA and QC programs
Experience with control software for Shimadzu, Agilent, PerkinElmer, and other analytical instruments.
Experience with ICP-MS Required

Job Summary
We are looking for a full-time Chemistry Analyst with ICP-MS experience, ICP-OES experience, and/or sample preparation experience for elemental impurities testing to perform chemical tests, analyze and record test results. This position involves analyzing cannabis flower, concentrates, and infused products for pesticide and elemental impurities contamination.
This position requires being in the lab Mondays through Fridays from 7am – 3:30pm. During training (approximately first 1-2 months), the schedule will be Mondays through Fridays from 9am - 5:30pm.

Responsibilities
- Comply with State, Local, OSHA, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Follow laboratory SOPs to prepare and test analytical samples using traditional laboratory technologies such as ICP-MS and LC-MS.
- Accurately interpret and record data in an organized, legible, and consistent manner.
- Identify and document departures from the quality system and/or test procedures.
- Verify lab equipment before use to ensure they are within acceptable limits.
- Troubleshoot, clean and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Prepare and review test reports for clients within prescribed reporting deadlines.
- Prepare lab reagents and working standards and verify them before use.
- Perform general laboratory tasks such as inventory and consumables ordering, sample archival and disposal, cleaning and similar lab duties.
- Perform special projects, as assigned.
- Report concerns to the Lead Chemist.
Requirements
- BS/BA in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field and at least one year of experience in a testing lab is required by State regulation, no exceptions.
- ICP-MS experience, ICP-OES experience, and/or sample preparation experience for elemental impurities testing required.
- Must pass an extensive background check with no felony convictions and obtain a Colorado Department of Revenue – MED employee license prior to or at the time of hire.
