Purpose
The Scientist II for Instrumentation or Research is a subject matter expert high level leadership position wherein professional growth is expected and assessed. Therefore, the Scientist II is expected to demonstrate a teaching attitude and a dedication to improvement by providing transfer of knowledge and careful attention to instruction, answering clarifying questions and developing training as required. The Scientist II has the ability to perform methods and gather data from specialized instrumentation and is expected to have the ability to independently perform all routine analyses including calibration, trouble shooting, method development and training as needed. Requirements:Responsibilities and Duties
- Expert knowledge of at least two (2) types of instrumentation with the ability to develop methods, identify issues, trouble shoot and work with leadership to resolve them when required.
- Interprets and explains results in conjunction with manager.
- Works in conjunction with technicians, analysts and chemists to ensure a seamless transition from raw sample to final results.
- Assists with special projects requiring long term testing or very specialized technical skill.

Purpose
The Scientist II for Instrumentation or Research is a subject matter expert high level leadership position wherein professional growth is expected and assessed. Therefore, the Scientist II is expected to demonstrate a teaching attitude and a dedication to improvement by providing transfer of knowledge and careful attention to instruction, answering clarifying questions and developing training as required. The Scientist II has the ability to perform methods and gather data from specialized instrumentation and is expected to have the ability to independently perform all routine analyses including calibration, trouble shooting, method development and training as needed. Requirements:Responsibilities and Duties
- Expert knowledge of at least two (2) types of instrumentation with the ability to develop methods, identify issues, trouble shoot and work with leadership to resolve them when required.
- Interprets and explains results in conjunction with manager.
- Works in conjunction with technicians, analysts and chemists to ensure a seamless transition from raw sample to final results.
- Assists with special projects requiring long term testing or very specialized technical skill.
- Lead problem solving related to procedures or instrumentation to maximize efficiency and lifetime of equipment.
- Prepares reagents and standards, and prepares samples of various matrices to be analyzed on instrumentation.
- Perform any of the responsibilities of the Laboratory technician, analysts and chemist if such assistance is required.
- Follows strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and follows Good Laboratory Practices to ensure the generation of high quality and reliable data.
- Maintains a neat and organized laboratory notebook for scientific record and maintains maintenance and run logbooks for instruments.

We are currently seeking a highly qualified Senior Scientist II to join our Quality Process Team with US Smokeless Tobacco in Nashville, TN.
You will lead our Seed Program for production cures and developmental cures as well as generating and tracking all data as it pertains to seed production, including PCR identification of various microbes.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the leader for our seed program by scheduling, coordinating, and tracking all tobacco fermentation seed cures throughout their usable life. You will use knowledge of pertinent data to analyze and report out to plant leadership, Research and Development, and management.
- Lead the weekly cross functional seed cure review meetings with the Research and Development team, Product Development, and specialists across the business.
- You will use your expert technical knowledge and lab experience to conduct PCR, media prep, plating, counting, sample collection.
- You will be responsible for providing direction and coordinating the work of assigned in-house contract personnel
- You will work in a team environment, collaborating with various internal partners to accomplish business goals
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Microbiology with 5+ years applicable industrial experience.
- Masters degree in Microbiology preferred
- Knowledge of tobacco fermentation process preferred
- Strong statistical and computing skills (e.g. statistical process control).
- Experience with data visualization software packages (e.g. Tableau) is desirable
- Industrial experience in a regulated chemical or consumer goods environment
- Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Proven ability to communicate at all levels of an organization
