The Staff Scientist is responsible to perform data acquisition, analysis, and report preparation for the various testing/screening services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Position Steep Hill Mississippi at the forefront of Cannabis Analytical Laboratories
- Work with Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Analysts to ensure turnaround times are met

The Analytical Chemist, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS focus is a key position responsible for the design, execution, and oversight of the laboratory samples requiring LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS pesticide and mycotoxin analysis.

· Perform sample preparation and analysis of cannabis and cannabis products LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS following detailed procedures described in the company’s SOPs.

Senior Scientist (Mass Spectrometry) - Cannabis Testing Lab

The successful candidate will be a Senior Scientist at our Ann Arbor, Michigan laboratory, will report directly to the Laboratory Director and will be responsible for the all the steps involved in sample analysis for state mandated compliance testing of cannabis products.
This position requires knowledge of analytical chemistry and gas/liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, specifically wet lab techniques and familiarity with instrumentation utilized for cannabis analysis (ICP-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, etc.).
- Experience with pesticide analysis or similar trace chemical analysis using GC or LC-MS/MS is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independent execution with minimal supervision of different types of mass spectrometric analyses including ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, etc.
- Sample preparation of cannabis for testing, including Metals Analysis, Pesticide Residue Analysis and Microbiology Analysis.
- Learn and execute state regulatory SOPs

Senior Scientist (Mass Spectrometry) - Cannabis Testing Lab

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the emerging and fast paced environment of cannabis laboratory testing. The successful candidate will be a Senior Scientist at our Ann Arbor, Michigan laboratory, will report directly to the Laboratory Director and will be responsible for the all the steps involved in sample analysis for state mandated compliance testing of cannabis products.
This position requires knowledge of analytical chemistry and gas/liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, specifically wet lab techniques and familiarity with instrumentation utilized for cannabis analysis (ICP-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, etc.).
- Experience with pesticide analysis or similar trace chemical analysis using LC-MS/MS is required.
- Prior commercial lab experience is required.
- A candidate with a PhD is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independent execution with minimal supervision of different types of mass spectrometric analyses including ICP-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, etc.
- Sample preparation of cannabis for testing, including Metals Analysis, Pesticide Residue Analysis and Microbiology Analysis.
- Learn and execute state regulatory SOPs
- Process of high sample throughput
- Help evaluate and improve SOPs as needed
- Manage Lab Technicians' work and data output
- Operate automated chemical testing equipment
- Dispose of analyzed samples and follow proper chemical waste procedures
- Perform appropriate lab practices
- Organize supplies
- Ensure adequate inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory for ISO accreditation standards and future audits.
- Remain up-to-date on all SOPs and maintain documentation required for compliance.
- Performance of other laboratory and clerical duties such as data entry, filing, or supply inventory and assumption of other responsibilities on an as-needed basis, or as delegated
- Personal drive and commitment to ongoing improvement of the Customer Experience at PSI Labs
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Candidate must have experience in pesticide analysis (or LC-MS/MS)
- Candidate must be comfortable working with cannabis
- Previous experience with Lab Information Management systems preferred
- 3-4 years of prior experience in an academic or commercial lab is required
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment and/or in the cannabis industry is preferred
- Ideal candidate works independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ideal candidate will possess the ability to make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and GSuite (primarily Google Sheets & Google Docs)
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written command) with excellent computer, typing, and organizational abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting, ability and willingness to multi-task, and the ability to prioritize and manage assignments
- Positive attitude and willingness to work in a collaborative environment
- Personal integrity, disciplined work ethic, organization skills, and motivation to work with a sense of urgency
- Some availability to work nights and weekends is required
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a PhD in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university.
- Exceptional wet laboratory technique and ability to perform documentation for ISO standards.
- Experience with pesticides analysis or similar trace chemical analysis using LC-MS/MS is required.
- At least 3-4 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
