Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting students, faculty, and residents with supplies and instruments for all patient care activity and/or pre-clinical activity. Responsible and accountable for new electronic inventory control of supplies, equipment and dental instruments. Responsible and accountable for charge slips for items students purchase. Responsible for maintaining equipment, including minor repairs of equipment. Responsible for assisting with the collection of dirty instruments and assisting with the processing of these instruments. Responsible for the upkeep and order of storage rooms to ensure proper ordering of supplies needed for clinics and to maintain the integrity of the new inventory system. Responsible for maintaining supplies for all clinics, dispensaries and clinical labs.

Job Summary:
Cleans, decontaminates and provides maintenance of instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques; ensures proper functioning of equipment; cleans sanitizing machines and equipment. Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units, makes sure the room is turned over and ready to use for the next patient; collects and resterilizes used instruments maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution. This position will move between dispensaries to provide assistance when a co-worker is out.
This position is located in the Second Floor Dispensary and the primary function is non-chairside dental assisting work.

Clinical Support Essential Function (50%)

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of dental assisting experience
- Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. The responsibility of this position is to effectively follow sterilization protocols to process and maintain all dental instruments according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. The incumbent will provide clinical support services involving sterilization, preparation, distribution, collection, and storage of medical supplies and equipment. The incumbent will be required to decontaminate, clean, identify and assemble the entire range of dental instruments used throughout GSDM. This role also entitles maintaining all sterilizers and other dental processing equipment within central sterilization as needed. Within this role, the incumbent must provide great customer service and perform as a team player with students, faculty, and staff. The incumbent will also participate in preparing for all board exams administered at GSDM.
Required Skills
Must have a High School Diploma or a GED and a minimum of 1 - 3 year experience. Must have CRCST Certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire. Monday to Friday 40 hours a week. Schedule will include working Saturdays and Sundays as needed.

Provide quality assurance by checking that all clinical protocol procedures were being followed during exposure. Assists residents and faculty in patient treatment by abiding by and following appropriate clinic guidelines, OSHA and infection control policies, procedures and regulations. Must follow HIPAA guidelines for confidentiality.
Complexity:
Working with a diverse faculty, changes in schedules, and emergency appointments. Adheres strictly to HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
Complexity relates to the day-to-day four handed dentistry, usage of appropriate tools and equipment for providing treatment to patients. Guidance regarding what procedures will be done and what instruments/materials the faculty member will be using differ based on each dental patient’s varying needs. This position must take a practical course of action when applying dental standard care, alternatives and technical practices using technical knowledge and experience.
Duty: Instrument Preparation ( 35%)
Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units
Collects used instruments and moves them for sterilization
Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for residents, faculty and undergraduate students to be used during dental patient treatment.
Decision making:
Making sure instruments are ready for use and determining what will be needed in the clinics. Letting supervisors know when instruments are worn or damaged. Must be able to tell when instruments are worn or broken.
Complexity:
faculty and staff from each department.
A typical challenge would be to determine how to carry out and complete the process of patient treatment (i.e. decides whether radiographs will need to be taken).
Other challenges are when there is a change to patient treatment after instruments have been set up at the chairside, or when supplies have not been received. This position would work with the sterilization department to make sure instruments are received back in a timely fashion and communicate with doctors/residents when patient treatment is changed so that the correct instruments are available.
Duty: Chairside Assistance (10%)
in specialized areas of four-handed dentistry. Duties may include:

Clinical area preparation for the treatment of patients.

Judgment is used by studying the patient information to identify what means of dental assistance the resident/faculty member will need when providing the patient treatment. Identifying this level of need serves as guidance for determining what the specialized instruments setups will be.

Challenges are met with communicating between faculty and students, and how to best interact and provide clear direction. Understanding that each patient is different and how that will affect the experience.
Duty: Monitoring Supplies and Materials (5%)
Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment and materials for the clinical area of responsibility.
Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of dental materials, their use, maintenance and storage.
Decision making
Deciding which type of materials to use for impressions, fillings and other dental procedures. Must stay up to date on any new materials or instruments available and/or new requests or needs of the faculty.
Decides when to contact supervisor if materials need to be ordered.
Complexity
Not having the materials needed to treat the patient and determining if something else would suffice until new materials can be supplied. Would notify the supervisor or Director of the program.
Duty: Other Duties.
On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold the organizational values of CU Denver/Anschutz and the SDM.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of dental assisting experience
Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.
Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a fast-paced dental environment
Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office.

Summary
The Dispensary Assistant provides support in the dispensary and receiving area. The Dispensary Assistant is responsible for the dispensing, collecting, processing and general care of dental instruments, equipment and all supplies utilized in the Dental Clinic. The position reports to the Supervisor of Dispensary for the Dental Clinic and must be able to adapt to work schedule changes based on the hours of the clinic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the dispensing of all disposable and fixed assets such as instruments, equipment and dental products to the Practice Assistants, students and clinical faculty members as needed with a professional demeanor.
- Fill minimal internal orders for the Dental Institute throughout the University utilizing the axiUm Inventory software.
- Process external orders which include obtaining and submitting invoices, entering UPC and product codes, updating pricing, dispensing back orders, track expiration dates, and returning of defective goods.
- Participate in quality assurance within the department and report discrepancies to the Supervisor of Dispensary for resolution.
- Perform inventory counts and report stock balance discrepancies to the Supervisor of Dispensary for resolution
- Ensure all equipment is returned to dispensary in clean and excellent working condition.
- Maintain the organization, cleanliness and general appearance of the dispensary space and related storage facilities.
- Work with the Supervisor of Dispensary to conduct required annual calibrations on assigned dental equipment.
- Must be able to multitask and fluctuate between floors for coverage.
- Assist with shelf organization for dispensary
- Assist in the training of new employees.
- Participate in Dental Clinic meetings.
- Consistently provide exceptional service to internal customers.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of 1-2 years work experience in an inventory or dental office setting is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience from a dental background. The ability to troubleshoot equipment along with the familiarity of OSHA guidelines. Knowledge of dental equipment, general dental related procedures and proper infection control protocols preferred. Experience working in a team and customer service-oriented environment and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. The individual should be a person committed to ensuring that a work-friendly environment exists with faculty and students.
Computer Skills
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and general Dental Software preferred. The individual must have the ability to become familiar with axiUm Dental Software Management System.

Dispensary Assistant- IL- College of Dental Medicine

Summary
The Dispensary Assistant provides support in the dispensary and receiving area. The Dispensary Assistant is responsible for the dispensing, collecting, processing and general care of dental instruments, equipment and all supplies utilized in the Dental Clinic. The position reports to the Supervisor of Dispensary for the Dental Clinic and must be able to adapt to work schedule changes based on the hours of the clinic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the dispensing of all disposable and fixed assets such as instruments, equipment and dental products to the Practice Assistants, students and clinical faculty members as needed with a professional demeanor.
- Fill internal orders for the Dental Institute by utilizing the axiUm Inventory software.
- Process external orders which include obtaining and submitting invoices, entering UPC and product codes, updating pricing, dispensing back orders, track expiration dates, and returning of defective goods.
- Perform inventory counts and report stock balance discrepancies to the Supervisor of Dispensary for resolution.
- Maintain the organization, cleanliness and general appearance of the dispensary and central supply space and related storage facilities.
- Assist in the training of new employees.
- Troubleshoot equipment, perform maintenance, and send out repairs while keeping track of detailed information throughout our shared files.
- Ensure all equipment is returned to dispensary in clean and excellent working condition.
- Must be able to multitask and fluctuate between floors for coverage.
- Assist with shelf organization for dispensary and receiving area.
- Participate in Dental Clinic meetings
- Consistently provide exceptional service to internal customers.
- Maintain a welcoming atmosphere to promote collegiality among student doctors, faculty, and staff.
- Assist with other duties within the clinic as assigned.

Position Summary:
Provides advanced skills in dental dispensary operations, central sterilization operations and patient care. Serves as a team leader and oversees operations of the work area in the absence of the supervisor.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Cleans, disinfects, packages and sterilizes dental and surgical instruments.
- Orders and dispenses instruments, dental materials and supplies to students and faculty.
- Sets up sterile instrument trays for surgical procedures.
