The firm is seeking a qualified individual to join our licensing team. The ideal candidate is well-organized, responsible and is an effective communicator. This individual would eventually manage their own caseload and should have at least some professional office experience.
Responsibilities include:
· Assembling and filing various city and state regulatory applications on behalf of New York bars, restaurants and hotels;
· Working closely with city and state agencies, such as the NY State Liquor Authority, NYC Department of Health, NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, Department of Transportation, Office of Cannabis Management, and NY Department of State, to obtain permits and licenses;
· Managing an application caseload, personally;
· Interacting with clients while providing excellent customer service;
· [Eventually] attending Community Board and certain other city or quasi-city agency meetings (city council meetings, meetings with various neighborhood organizations);
· Providing general administrative support to the department as needed.

The AGO invites any qualified first and second-year law students seeking academic credit to apply to serve as a 2022 summer law clerk extern with the Olympia Section of the Licensing and Administrative Law (LAL) Division. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work remotely, in person, or some combination of the two.
The LAL Division consists of 23 attorneys and 15 professional staff based in Olympia and Seattle sections. LAL’s work touches the lives of all Washingtonians and focuses on promoting public safety, protecting the economy, and preserving public integrity and trust. The Division handles litigation and advice for three main clients: the Department of Licensing (including its regulation of drivers and professionals and businesses); Employment Security Department (including its Unemployment Insurance, Paid Family and Medical Leave, and Long-Term Support Services programs); and, the Liquor and Cannabis Board.
LAL also handles litigation and advice for several other boards, commissions, and committees, including the Lottery Commission; Interpreter Commission; Board of Accountancy; Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors; Executive Ethics Board; Commission on Judicial Conduct; Public Records Exemption Accountability (Sunshine) Committee; Certified Professional Guardianship Board; Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals; Consumer-Directed Employer Rate Setting Board; Environmental and Land Use Hearings Office; and Columbia River Gorge Commission.

Duties
Although each law clerk's experience is unique, the following duties are typical of an AGO law clerk extern:
- Researching and writing memoranda, pleadings, and correspondence;
- Assist in the preparation for litigation, i.e., depositions, witness interviews, and discovery;
- Drafting client advice memos and attending meetings where that advice is then presented to the client;
- Shadow and observe Assistant Attorneys General in court or during administrative proceedings; and
- Present cases in court (if WSBA Rule 9 qualified).
Qualifications
Students must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school during the duration of their service. In addition, the AGO seeks applicants who are committed to public service as demonstrated by an applicant's background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice. We also seek applicants with a diverse background in education, previous work experience, law school activities, extracurricular activities, community service and areas of interest that enhance our office.
