Duties and responsibilities of the junior specialist will include, but not be limited to the following:
(a) Manage all NCPC research science emphasis behind smoking cessation.
(b) Co-ordinate with Dr. Song & Dr. Bámaca and fellow researchers in organizing research meetings and providing post meeting research summaries with task lists.
(c) Provide support with six local public health departments in the management and running of the NCPC intern program with CSU Stanislaus, and the successful co-ordination of all the various research projects being developed.
d) Assist in the development of study materials such as recruitment forms, consent forms, and developing in-person and online surveys, while also assisting in participant screening and scheduling for research studies.
e) Provide support in recruitment efforts with underserved populations and assist in data collection as needed.
The junior specialist will attend regular meetings with Dr. Song and Dr. Bámaca and the research teams to update them on current status of research.

Responsibilities
This full-time position is funded through research grants and is contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of grant funding. We are seeking to hire a highly motivated individual who has excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and experience conducting interviews. The individual hired for this position will be involved in 1) recruiting study participants through social media; 2) interviewing participants in focus groups; 3) transcribing audio files into text; 4) managing and analyzing the data in a qualitative software program (Atlas.ti); and 5) assisting with the preparation of manuscripts. Research opportunities for other related projects (e.g., cannabis marketing) may arise through the course of employment.
Qualifications

The Farmworkers grant and Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center at the University of California, Merced, is looking to jointly hire a junior specialist to help with data management and research coordination from April to the end of August 2022.
The Farmworkers grant led by Dr. Paul Brown is requiring assistance with data cleaning and basic research coordination. While the majority of the work is with large data sets, for which significant experience is required, the applicant must also understand the local community and ideally have experience working with community groups in the area.
This role will also require work to be done for the Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center, led by Dr. Anna Song and Dr. Linda Cameron at the University of California, Merced. In this role a junior specialist will be working for TRDRP-funded research on nicotine, tobacco, and marijuana-related issues that involves studies specifically designed to rapidly inform policy and practice. Research issues include marijuana use by pregnant and breastfeeding women, public opinions about bans on flavored tobacco and nicotine products, and impact of flavored product bans on local businesses and economies. The junior specialist will: (a) manage large datasets from studies on substance use during the COVID-19 pandemic and policies for tobacco and cannabis sales and use; (b) conduct statistical analyses in line with research aims guiding the studies; (c) prepare manuscripts reporting the study findings for submission to peer-reviewed journals; (d) prepare and disseminate policy briefs based on the study findings and their implications; and (e) provide assistance in creating website and social media messages for disseminating findings to the general public.
