Job Title: IPM Technician (Integrated Pest Management)
Job Summary: Fell? Cannabis is seeking a IPM Tech to join our team. The IPM Tech is responsible for all pest and disease management related activities, including spraying and drenching chemicals and pesticides, administering and applying biological control agents, scouting and diagnosis of all facility plants, and assisting general cultivation staff as needed in accordance with the standard operating procedures set by Fell? Cannabis.
Core Job Duties
- Chemical Applications:
- Measuring and mixing of various chemicals, compounds, and agents in a safe and effective manner.
- Spraying chemicals and pesticides as needed and on a pre-determined basis as an ongoing pest management effort.
- Root drenching via drench carts or injectors to control various root dwelling pests and pathogen species.
- Biological Control Agents:
- Receive, inspect, and administer all BCA’s to facility plants on an as needed or predetermined schedule basis.
- Work with Cultivation Supervisors to direct labor resources in administering BCA products and applications.
- Asses and record efficacy and viability of BCA’s on an ongoing basis.
- Scouting:
o Set, monitor, record and replace insect trapping and monitoring devices and equipment.
o Perform detailed crop scouts in all production growing areas for any signs or symptoms of pest and disease damage.
o Capture, inspect, monitor, identify new insects in the garden and work with entomological team in identifying insect species.
- Facility Cleaning
o Daily cleaning and maintenance of areas and equipment as needed including sprayers, carts, equipment, storage and supplies.
o Maintain production areas clear of debris, dirt, dust, and clutter eliminating risks of pest and disease outbreak.
- Data Collection/ Analytics
o Measure and record any chemical and biological plant application in accordance with state and local laws and regulations as well as Fell? policy.
o Enter scouting data regularly in the IPM tracker and report to Director of Cultivation on a regular basis.
o Asses historical and current trends relating to efficacy of product treatments, and insect & spore populations to develop and ever evolving IPM strategy.
- Additional responsibilities:
o Calibration and testing of all IPM equipment for proper and safe function.
o Maintain strict biosecurity measures and prevent unwanted cross contamination wherever possible.
o Inventory of all IPM supplies on an ongoing regular basis and communicate needs to Director of Cultivation.
o Act as a technical resource to Cultivation staff regarding Integrated Pest Management and disease and insect identification.
o Review, modify, and assist in the creation of Standard Work Instruction Processes and Fell? SOP’s.
o Responsible for safety and education of handling of various chemical agents in the facility and communicating precautionary measures to appropriate parties as needed.
o Assist general cultivation staff with labor on an as needed basis.
Required Ideal Experience, Education and Skills
- Two-year degree in horticulture or related field preferred.
- Pesticide application license in the State of Michigan.
- Previous IPM experience preferred.
- Knowledge of general chemical safety guidelines including PPE, respirators.
- Two years of experience in a general crop production, preferably a regulated field producing for human consumption.
- Knowledge of Michigan medical cannabis law, medicinal benefits.
- Effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task
- Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and lift equipment or plants up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
- Ability to work in hot conditions in summer reaching more than 90 degrees.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing and challenging environment.

Lead IPM Technicians are largely responsible for managing and overseeing a team of 6 to 8 IPM Technicians. The Lead IPM Technicians are responsible for the application of preventative agents to preserve the quality of our product. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to break into the industry and start building knowledge of Cannabis cultivation and pest management!
Experience and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of 6 to 8 IPM Technician direct reports.
- Proper use and maintenance of applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection.
- Daily monitoring and scouting for pests and disease.
- Maintaining up-to-date pesticide and preventative agent logs.
- Proper mixing of pesticides/preventative agents/caustic cleaning agents.
- Operating and maintaining Dramm Hydraulic Sprayers.
- Applying IPM products to plants.
- Applying beneficial insects to plants.
- Coordinates scheduling of applications with Cultivation Supervisor.
- Follows standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects.
- Follows all safety protocols.
- Upholds quality standards; conducts and documents follow-up inspections.
- Additional duties as assigned, including daily Cultivation Technician responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Experience with management of direct reports.
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of hire.
- Subject to background check and badging per State of Florida cannabis regulations.
- Must be able to wear all associated PPE for the duration of your shift.
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and maintain the standard for a proper fit and seal.
- Exposure to allergens, irritants (organic and chemical) and loud noises is possible.
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to be on your feet (standing/walking) or stay sitting for extended periods of time.
- Can tolerate high room temperature averaging 70-80° Fahrenheit and elevated humidity levels.
- Can work in areas with higher-than-average carbon dioxide (CO2) levels.
- Can work under intense, bright lights.
- Be a team player.
- Be respectful, friendly, and optimistic.
- Great time management, self-starter and/or self-motivator.
- Strong basic math skills.
- Must maintain reliable transportation, attendance, and punctuality.
- Possessing a Pesticide Applicator's license is a plus.
