We are looking for an Analyst, Advocacy & Policy who will join our team in Marysville, OH to work hybrid (in person and remote). We are open to offer a fully remote in certain locations (NY)
The Advocacy & Policy Analyst position is designed to support the external affairs team with analysis, research, planning and coordination for our policy based campaigns. The position will use external and internal data to assist the external affairs team in evaluating the business impacts from local, state and federal policy proposals. The candidate will help the team develop policy recommendations, responses, and build advocacy plans to leverage resources for mobilization of internal and external stakeholders to support the adoption of those recommendations.
What you’ll do in this role:

Support the development of the government affairs program.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments on key consumer lawn and garden, indoor agriculture, and cannabis related public policy issues at all levels of government.

Research the impacts of public policy issues on SMGs business and help prepare reports, talking points, and other support materials as necessary.

Assist with the development of external and internal communications to support the external affairs team’s mission.

Attend hearings, briefings and other external meetings as necessary.

Ongoing product analysis support - understand the why behind product impacts and how it connects with policy.

Support creation and presentation of reports on trends, behaviors, product engagement, and performance to explain the policies

Identify key levers in the business and support the goal-setting process for policy by uncovering trends.

We are looking for a Copywriter who will grow with our Creative Services team supporting our Hawthorne Gardening Company. This position will be remote with limited to no travel.
The Copywriter writes clear, concise and compelling copy for products, packaging, and multichannel marketing communications (including, but not limited to digital/social communications, website content, print advertising, marketing collateral, internal and external press releases, etc.) for Hawthorne and its 35+ brands. Your words will engage, inform, and serve as a catalyst to increase our share of the professional and hobbyist hydroponic industry by speaking to our various customer targets, both B2B and B2C.
Our ideal candidate is a detail oriented, fast-learning, skilled and imaginative writer and team player who can shift from B2B to B2C writing projects with ease. You must be adept at writing from and developing copy to represent multiple brand voices and comfortable presenting your work to various stakeholders.
You’re comfortable generating multiple iterations of copy to satisfy all stakeholders’ needs.
In this role you will:
Oversee development of product copy, editorial copy, site development copy and other messaging for the company.
Develop copy for our primary marketing channels - paid and organic social/digital advertising and direct email.
Collaborate with internal and external creative agencies, PR and other professionals on small and large-scale marketing projects (e.g. email campaigns to website homepages).
Conduct high-quality research and interviews to inform writing.
Edit and proofread copy as needed.
Use SEO principles to maximize copy’s reach.
Establish copy needs for direct marketing materials and campaigns, ensuring that all copy requirements are clearly communicated.
Edit all website copy through each step of the production schedule-from start to finish through our internal approval process.
Collaborate with Integrated Marketing, production and category teams to meet product and production deadlines while ensuring that copy aligns with the goals of various internal stakeholders.

We are seeking a talented, self-motivated, curious, and creative Scientist who loves plants and has a strong background in plant science with focus in plant genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry to join our hempresearch program in Gervais, OR.
The successful candidate will have a MSc or PhD degree in plant science such as Horticulture, Agronomy, Seed Science, Plant Biology, Genetics, or a related discipline with at least 3 years’ experience. In this role, the Scientist will champion projects, working hands-on with a multifunctional team to lead the hemp plant science activities at the Gervais, Oregon Field Research Station. The successful candidate will work in a fast pace, collaborative team environment with other research scientists, third party collaborators, marketing and sales associates.
What you’ll do in this role:
Oversee and perform greenhouse hemp plant production including planting, propagation, environmental monitoring, pest control, applications, watering, feeding, and general maintenance.
Execute field research trials including preparing, planting, maintenance, harvesting, processing, phenotyping and data collection tasks.
Organize and maintain adequate records and documentation.
Be an intellectual driver to research goals and strategic discussions.
Lead in experimental design and troubleshooting efforts.
Analyze, summarize and present key research results to company leaders (Managers, Directors, VPs, etc.)
Prepare and execute project timelines. Track progress from design to the implementation of deliverables.
Build and maintain a network of external university and industry research partners.

We are looking for a Government Relations Manager who will join our Corporate Affairs team. We are looking to find someone remotely who lives in the central to southern region in the US . You would travel often and need to be a “road warrior”, once travel normalizes again.
You will be expected to build relationships with elected and appointed officials, advocate for our company and our issues. Looking for innovative ways to help support our business objectives and being creative with tackling complex policy issues is critical to the success of this role.
As the Primary point of contact for State and Local Governments for the central part of the United States (Midwest) and would cover the southeastern states, as well. This position would work closely with the Director, Government Relations - Hawthorne Gardening Company and would report to the Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
To Thrive in this role, you must:
Possess strong relationships with elected and appointed officials within the central and southeastern jurisdiction. Have developed relationships in the following states: Florida, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Louisiana. While these states are of primary importance, this position would cover all states in this area of the country.
Partner with the business, regulatory, legal teams, among other key internal customers, to understand and advise on the corporation’s key business strategies as they relate to the legislative arena.
Monitor and inform company leadership and internal customers of key state and local political and policy trends and legislative activity that could impact the business.
Determine the need for, and complete the preparation of, advocacy materials for pressing legislative challenges or opportunities (ex: talking points, letters of support, testimony, etc.)
Advise and support corporate PAC through solicitation, education for members and recommendations about candidate and campaign support.
Oversee state contract lobbyists in respective areas of the country and interact with important state trade associations (as needed) and other external partners (such as environmental NGOs).
Worked in advocacy/lobbying field, working multiple jurisdictions and with some aspect of public service and political campaign expertise.
