Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer ("COO") to oversee our manufacturing and distribution facility in Lake County, CA. The COO should have full working knowledge of cannabis from processing, solventless manufacturing, through distribution, and will oversee and manage all company daily activities. We are looking for a candidate with a solid track record of success as a COO proficient in scaling businesses. An ideal candidate would be someone with a mind for business who is capable of managing and building multiple departments while maximizing productivity. The candidate should be a team player who is highly skilled in operations, human resources, and finance. Candidate should have the ability to develop and maintain an environment where employees feel motivated and supported. As a start-up, the COO will be expected to wear many hats and build out various departments while maintaining the opportunity to grow with the company. For COO to excel, they should have full control over the organization's processes. As an upper management official, the COO will supervise many high-level managers while reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
Objectives of this Role
- Maintain consistent communication with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and department Directors to ensure proper operations of the organization are either met or exceeded
- Maintain construction schedules during facility buildout
- Communicate with contractors, construction managers, and directors to ensure work is being done in accordance with the facility’s plans
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and compliance protocols
- Review and approve the development of all SOPS and safety procedures
- Grow the efficiency of existing organizational processes and procedures to enhance and sustain the organization’s internal capacity
- Actively pursue strategic and operational objectives
- Ensure operational activities remain on time and within a defined budget

- Partner with cross-functional support teams in improving the proprietary tools and systems
- Work closely with the inventory and sales departments to make sure all activities remain compliant

Minimum Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in operations management or business administration or related field. 5+ years’ experience in a COO or equivalent position.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The Financial Controller will be responsible for all accounting operations. The ideal candidate will collaborate with executive staff on top-level business projects, construction build-outs, priorities, and timelines all while having the ability to be hands on. They will also have the ability to multitask on multiple levels, have a proven track record of reaching for responsibility and of being a team player.
The position is responsible for leveraging our IT software Sage Intact and Backbone to provide a solid financial control of operations and timely and accurate financial and managerial reporting.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
Accounting
- Manage all aspects of the accounting operations, including current staff
- Manage the timely close each month and the issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Create and manage the flow of financial data, including commentary of financial statements, establishing and assessing KPI in conjunction with operations teams and management, to create a robust reporting package, compliant with GAAP standards, with an eye on attention to detail while maintaining a big picture perspective
- Report on monthly Budget vs. Actual variances by department.
- Maintain and update budget data in conjunction with operations team and management, as needed
- Work with CFO and existing accounting teams to review and refine existing accounting policies and procedures, in conjunction with needs for cannabis compliance and overall needs within a larger group of entities. Implement new systems to improve efficiency and timely reporting. Create actionable intelligence for managers
- Provide data needed for completion of annual tax returns preparation with CFO and outside CPA firm
- Manage existing banking relationships and develop new connections in the complex cannabis banking environment
- Oversee and manage, in conjunction with current accounts payable staff, accounts payable daily, weekly and monthly basis to maintain timely payments
- Reconcile the accounts payable and inter-company balances related to accounts payable on a monthly basis

- Work with current staff to ensure payroll compliance, including reviewing bi-weekly payrolls and assuring the accuracy of the payroll records, for time keeping and payroll
- Work with management team to assess the human capital needs for both payroll and human resources as we grow
IT
- Act as finance lead in company-wide Sage Intact and Backbone deployment and integration
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve accuracy and timeliness by enhancing or adding systems integrations with ERP.
Controlling and Auditing
- Implement and monitor controls to ensure compliance with local and state tax laws, including compliance with state and local excise, sales and use and any other taxes required to be filed for a operator in the cannabis industry
- Provide direction and hands-on management of company-wide financial and accounting controls
