WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Perform cultivation operations, including harvest, trim, cure and finishing, ensuring that production timelines follow established production plans.

About the Department
The School of Planning (SOP) in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for Visiting Assistant Professor to teach courses in both its Bachelor of Science in Horticulture program, and its Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), with employment to begin in August 2023.
The SOP within DAAP prepares professionals for distinguished practice and spatially based approaches with a focus on livable places and the creation of communities that enrich people’s lives. The seven academic programs within the SOP include Bachelor of Urban Planning (BUP), Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies (BSUS), Bachelor of Science in Horticulture (BSHS), Master of Community Planning (MCP), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Master of Science in Landscape Architecture (MSLA), and PhD in Regional Development Planning offer specific coursework about the planning and design of innovative futures for urban communities and regions.

Job Overview
Successful candidates will be involved in the SOP’s collaborative environment for teaching, scholarship, and leadership with primary responsibility for teaching in the HORT Program and MLA Program. This Assistant Grower of Container Tree Irrigation position will include some management and all operational tasks involved with installing and maintaining irrigation systems in our container tree department. Including designing, improving, and leading many aspect of our irrigation processes. Trees that are grown are sold throughout the intermountain west and beyond for use in landscapes. There are approximately 100,000 container trees in production to irrigate.
This position would include mostly hands on responsibilities, some management of a small crew, and oversight for the following areas and others as developed and assigned. The ideal candidate should have educational or past work experience in agriculture and landscape irrigation systems.
Position Responsibilities:
- Design, built, and implement proper irrigation systems
- Use of fertilizer injection methods throughout the growing season as instructed.
- Using soil probes to determine proper irrigation needs throughout the farm.
- Work closely with Crop Consultants and Lead Growers to determine proper irrigation needs.
- Monitor and control Irrigation parts and tools and inventory of them.
- Use and maintenance of equipment to install mainlines, pipes, and other valves in the irrigation system.
- Coordination with others on new trees being planted each season and irrigation needs.
- Working closely with Lead Growers to eliminate death loss of trees due to irrigation.
- Using the irrigation system for chemigation and resolve nutrient deficiencies in trees as directed by Leader Growers.
- Seasonal irrigation crew development.
- Bilingual is a needed. English & Spanish.
- Assist in recruiting and training of new hires each season for irrigation needs.
- Outlining irrigation crew for specific duties and keeping them on task each day.
- Coordinate daily and weekly with the Lead Growers to develop systems, plans and outlines for each season irrigation needs.
- Ordering irrigation supplies in advance and pre-building what can be done.
- Other duties and assisting in other projects as assigned
- Some use of computers will be needed for record keeping, running the irrigation controllers and communication needs.
- The actual agreed wage and benefits for this position ultimately depends upon experience.
This position reports to the General Production Manager.
This position is a farm position where hours worked are dependent upon the needs of the farm moving all aspects forward with outlined schedules and not jeopardizing the quality and health of the trees. This Assistant Grower over Field Tree Irrigation position will include some management and all operational tasks involved with installing and maintaining irrigation systems in our 200 acres of field trees. Including designing, improving, and leading many aspect of our irrigation processes. Trees that are grown are sold throughout the intermountain west and beyond for use in landscapes. There are approximately 100,000 field trees in production. Digging approximately 30,000 - 40,000 per year with replanting 40,000 trees each season.
This position would include mostly hands on responsibilities, some management, and oversight for the following areas and others as developed and assigned. The ideal candidate should have educational or past work experience in agriculture irrigation systems.
Position Responsibilities:
- Design, built, and implement proper irrigation systems for the field grown trees
- Use of fertilizer injection methods throughout the growing season
- Using soil probes to determine proper irrigation needs throughout the farm.
- Work closely with Crop Consultants and Lead Growers to determine proper irrigation needs.
- Monitor and control Irrigation parts and tools and inventory of them.
- Use and maintenance of equipment to install mainlines, pipes, and other valves in the irrigation system.
- Coordination with others on new trees being planted each season and irrigation needs.
- Working closely with Lead Growers to eliminate death loss of trees due to irrigation.
- Using the irrigation system for chemigation and resolve nutrient deficiencies in trees.
- Seasonal irrigation crew development and management of employees with assistance of Office Staff.
- Bilingual is a needed. English & Spanish.
- Assist in recruiting and training of new hires each season for irrigation needs.
- Outlining irrigation crew for specific duties and keeping them on task each day.
