Wise Guys Farms is seeking a Compliance Director to join our growing team in Michigan.
Job Summary:
Accountable for company-wide compliance with all state and local regulations and responsible for internal audit functions across all cultivation, processing and upcoming dispensary locations in Michigan; design, implement and evaluate compliance related policies, procedures and programs and assist in the formulation of compliance-related goals and objectives for the company
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and implement written compliance programs as warranted throughout the enterprise to ensure compliance with numerous state and municipal cannabis program rules and regulations
- Maintain all policies and procedures; make updates and/or changes which may result from business changes/updates and root cause analyses performed on findings from both internal and external audits to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct
- Prepare documentation to send to regulatory agencies for license renewals and other compliance-related reporting
- Send regular reminders for recurring operational inspections, reports to government agencies and renewal of cannabis licenses/registrations/permits to confirm all compliance deadlines are met
- Monitor database records within Canix and/or METRC to ensure accuracy and proper implementation of company compliance protocols
- Conduct routine regulatory internal compliance audits as well as prepare the team for external audits (when identified by the regulatory agency) of the business
- Confirm that all new packaging and labeling is compliant prior to printing and distribution
- Organize electronically and maintain all compliance documents using the company's internal document control system
- Investigate and resolve compliance related concerns, issues or violations; collaborate with management to compile protocol revisions to avoid recurring issues in the future
- Set deadlines to ensure completion of operational compliance initiatives
- Prepare monthly compliance status reports for the CEO and President
- Develop, implement and manage compliance related training programs
- Develop expertise in Michigan cannabis laws and regulations and continually learn about new policies set by Michigan’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA)
- Perform inventory-related tasks including:
- Monitor facility managers as they perform company-wide inventory of plants and processed material
- Monitor inventory losses and assist in developing processes and procedures to reduce loss in all departments
- Ensure full inventory is completed at all facilities; investigate and resolve any inventory discrepancies
- Ensure inventory reporting within METRC and Canix is accurate
- Review all inventory reports and files
- Coordinate internal audits as necessary
- Maintain bottom-line responsibility for department operations
- Provide leadership, management and accountability for the department
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside the organization and outside the organization, including Michigan’s Marijuana Regulatory Agency
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3+ years of experience with compliance or human resources, preferably in a regulated industry such as alcohol, tobacco or manufacturing preferred
- 21 years of age or older
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills; ability to predict and/or identify and drive problems/issues to resolution in partnership with stakeholders
- Excellent people and communication skills (verbal and written); ability to successfully explain complex matters and provide persuasive support for positions with internal stakeholders, outside partners and to communicate with all levels of the organization
- Ability to successfully manage a high-volume workload with tight deadlines
- Detail-oriented and ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities
