The Center for Population Behavioral Health within the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH) (https://ifh.rutgers.edu) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research fellow. The successful candidate will contribute to National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded etiological and clinical research on youth and young adult substance use, with a focus on variation by race/ethnicity and gender in pathways of risk and substance use outcomes. The primary projects include an investigation of multi-level cultural and environmental factors that protect against or elevate risk for substance use in Black and Latinx youth, based on the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study longitudinal data. Other projects involve secondary analyses of a large randomized clinical trial testing mechanisms of behavior change for an alcohol text message intervention in young adults, and analyses of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) and phone sensor (e.g., GPS) data collected in relation to self-reported episodes of alcohol or cannabis use from young adults. The postdoctoral research fellow will be jointly supervised by Drs. Carolyn Sartor and Tammy Chung.

The RARC is an initiative of the Brain Health Institute and is a translational research center that brings together researchers from across the Rutgers campuses, medical schools, and health systems for collaborative, interdisciplinary work focused on tackling addiction. With over 150 faculty who work across the domains of Epidemiology, Etiology, & Prevention; Basic Science; Treatment & Recovery; and Public Policy, the RARC is the only comprehensive addiction center in New Jersey. The RARC creates opportunities for collaboration and community, bringing together faculty with a passion for innovative, cross-disciplinary research who are employing cutting edge approaches to studying substance misuse and addiction. The RARC’s Public Policy domain is especially interested in expanding expertise in cutting edge and newly- evolving areas in addictive behaviors, such as compulsive sexual behavior, binge eating, and hoarding disorder, as well as in the substance-based addiction areas of cannabis and psychedelic research and policy.
