The Commercial Project Manager is responsible for GRID’s commercial solar construction projects (~20kW-1MW+) being built on time, to budget, and to the high standards we believe in. The candidate must be committed to GRID Alternatives’ mission of serving low-income communities while creating a successful transition to clean, renewable energy that includes everyone.
The Opportunity…
- Interface with clients to help set and meet their expectations
- Bridge transition from development to construction execution and completion
- Create scopes of work and project schedules
- Estimating and budget development
- Oversee engineering and permitting, performing design and reviews and pulling permits as needed
- Work in partnership with the Construction Manager and team and provide direction and troubleshooting where necessary
- Prepare bid packages and conduct due diligence on subcontractors and vendors
- Negotiate contracts and manage subcontractor relations and ensure work is performed as negotiated
- Keep project built to or under budget
- Manage change orders
- Lead the interconnection agreements with the utilities, incentive applications, and other necessary paperwork to finance and energize the project
- Manage and complete all steps of project execution ensuring high standards
- Lead project meetings and provide required project reports and other status updates
- Manage and organize project documentation
What you need to bring to this role…
- 2+ years solar project management experience including projects of at least 100 kW+
- 5+ years previous experience in project management and/or construction operations
- Experience completing as-built sets and close out packages upon project completion; ability to perform walkthroughs with Owner’s rep/Property Manager and Commercial Construction Manager
- Experience and understanding of Commercial Scale projects
- Solid understanding of Project Management process
- Ability to problem solve both personnel issues and project issues
- Good record keeping and organizational skills
- Proficient with computers, including Microsoft suite, Google suite, CRM/databases, AutoCAD/Revit, and ability to quickly learn new programs including HelioScope, Energy Toolbase, PVWatts Calculator, PV Bid
- Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders and lift 50 lbs safely

The Opportunity...
Collaborate with the Director of Energy For All to create and implement an outreach strategy to increase number of low-income clients served in Central Valley.
- Assist in creating and maintaining partnerships with community based organizations
- Work with GRID Alternatives staff to coordinate site visits, installations and troubleshooting for clients
- Educate homeowners on the benefits of energy programs, water technology and deliver client training sessions
- Responsible for increasing community awareness and acceptance of GRID Alternatives’ work and mission, including attending and presenting at community meetings and events
- Organizing to assist in outreach efforts
What you need to bring to this role...
- Excellent communication skills: ability to meet with partner organizations, speak to groups about GRID Alternatives’ work, educate low-income families about our services, and be a positive GRID Alternatives representative in the community
- Community outreach experience, or sales/marketing/customer service experience
- Ability to relate to and respect diverse populations
- Available for occasional weekend and evening work

The Opportunity…
- Responsible for all technical and safety aspects of PV installations
- Conduct site visits to screen potential sites for solar access and safety issues
- Design and engineer small, residential solar electric systems
- Put together permit packages, utility interconnection agreements, and assist with rebate paperwork
- Train volunteers in solar electric installation
- Lead installations of solar electric systems with crews of volunteers and/or job trainees
- Ensure that all solar installations are installed according to GRID Alternatives safety and quality standards
- Other job duties include equipment purchasing, hardware store runs, equipment unloading and loading, answering homeowner and volunteer questions, talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for low-income families
What you need to bring to this role…
- Experience in PV system installation, design, and troubleshooting
- Experience leading a crew in PV installation
- Excellent communication skills (ability to work with volunteers and clients, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively)
- Comfortable working as part of a team

The Opportunity…
- Schedule all construction activities (site visits, design deadlines, installations, inspections) based on pipeline, homeowner availability, inventory, sponsorship goals, production goals, and construction capacity
- Coordinate with Outreach, Development, and Workforce Development departments as the liaison for Construction
- Manage and perform post installation service calls including RMAs, monitoring, troubleshooting (remotely and in the field)
- Communicate with homeowners, external contractors, etc to schedule any post-installation activities including inspections, service calls, etc. with excellent customer service
- Support the construction team operations such as creation of installation and inspection packages, leading residential project meetings, ensuring that all CRM data is inputted, etc.
- Work with Construction Manager to manage construction resources including company vehicles, crews, etc.
- Manage day-to-day project activities under the supervision of Construction Manager
- Assist and support the Construction department with all other duties as needed and assigned such as occasional participation in installations, inspection, etc.
