About the Role:

Bowery is seeking an experienced Head Grower to focus on the crop health, yield and quality in our farms. The Head Grower will support the introduction & operationalization of new products, while serving as a critical partner in analyzing datasets, and guiding key business decisions around yield and quality performance.
The Head Grower will be supported by Bowery’s proprietary farm management software, the BoweryOS, which delivers unprecedented abilities to monitor crop development and maintain efficient operations. This role operates in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers, computer scientists, agricultural scientists, growers, business operators and a farm operations team. The Head Grower will manage a team of Growers to provide input around crop variety trials, help further develop Bowery’s proprietary BoweryOS, and contribute to the overall direction of our new product development.
What You'll Do:
- You will manage day to day growing operations in Bowery’s farms and help plan growing operations for future farms in conjunction with the systems engineering and agricultural Science.
- You will lead a team of Growers to ensure farm health is maintained across critical systems, disease and seed management and nutrient performance.
- You will diagnose infield crop performance and providing feedback to our Agricultural Operations team.
- You will be a critical partner in transitioning new products from R&D to an operational environment.
- You will influence daily activity and recommend new techniques and processes that will make our farm operators more efficient and effective.
- You will influence our crop development roadmap, and help us evaluate new varieties for quality, yield and taste.
- You will recommend new monitoring and control systems that give Bowery increasing levels of control on the most important variables for plant growth.
- You will be a critical partner in working with our Marketing team providing feedback on “in-farm” observations and sensory data.

As a Head Grower, your work will meaningfully impact the evolution of the indoor agriculture industry. This is a multi farm role focused on an expanding number of farms and will require some travel. You will lead a team of Growers and will report to the Vice President of Agricultural Operations.

With the goal of operational excellence, the Grower will leverage software-driven data collection & analysis to manage the growing environment and cultural practices at Bowery’s farms, ensuring the highest quality produce makes its way to our customers. Working with colleagues in Operations, Data Science, Engineering, and AgScience, the Grower will ensure that environmental conditions, plant nutrition, and practices are maintained according to Bowery standards. You will also be implementing new innovations into production.
What You'll Do:
- Analyze yield and quality in our farms, troubleshooting crop issues and diagnose health, growth, or quality issues accordingly
- Complete root cause analysis for an issues using data and develop action plans for cross-team execution
- You’ll be a critical partner in transitioning new products from R&D to an operational environment
- Create and manage pest and disease management programs
- Continually test and improve cultivation practices and products in partnership with the R&D and Ops teams
- Document procedures in SOPs and provide training for techs and Farm Operators
