The Benefits Specialist will assist employees with This individual will perform a wide range of Human Resource duties. The major areas covered are new hire administration, benefits administration, recruitment, HR compliance and administration. This position will provide support to all MariMed’s employees, acting as the first point of contact, while assisting the Corporate HR Manager as needed with other responsibilities and projects. This individual will partner with Regional Management to drive the Company's HR strategies while supporting the regional priorities. Priorities include: employee benefits enrollment and questions, verifying/audit billing (as needed), maintaining internal databases, and ensuring compliance with required benefit notices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assists with the maintenance and execution of the Company's new hire orientation program
- Assists with developing and tracking compliance with Company HR policies and procedures. Responsibilities include communicating any issues to the HR Manager, proposing solutions to HR-related issues and assisting with approved solution implementation
- Ensures appropriate reporting of state and federal documentation required. (i.e., e-verification, new hire reporting, etc.)
- Assists with the maintenance of the Company's HRIS system and develops and issues reports as needed (i.e., job titles, annual reviews, etc.)
- Assists with the unemployment claims process, as directed
- Ensures personnel files and other documentation are retained as required
- Flexible to respond to requests and other duties as needed
- Assist in implementation and maintenance of on boarding process for new hires.
- Maintain personnel files for all team members.

- Provide employment verification to third parties as requested.
- Administration of FMLA and other leaves.

- Assist in annual open enrollment period for the different companies: materials from carriers, communicating changes to employees/answering questions, assists with employee presentations. Process changes within deadlines.
Qualifications:

Job Title: HR Benefits & Compensation Specialist
Reports to: Director of HR
Job Class: Exempt
Position Summary:
The HR and benefits & compensation specialist's primary responsibilities will include designing, overseeing, and implementing Urbn Leaf's compensation and benefits programs. This position will strategically manage compensation, benefits, leave of absences, and related communications for these programs at Urbn Leaf. This position will also have responsibilities in managing various HR special projects that will enable the organization to meet its business objectives and improve employee engagement. This role will also monitor salary structures with cost controls, and help ensure that policies, procedures and programs are in alignment with the organization's overall strategic objectives and HR vision.
The HR compensation and benefits specialist will consult with internal business partners, such as department heads and management, to assess benefits, compensation and leave of absence needs. This position will also educate, mentor and train HR staff on processes and professional practices within these areas. The person in this role will need to stay current with the changing federal and state employee benefits regulations, as well as the shifting needs of an organization's workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Train employees on our benefit offerings at point of hire and during their tenure at Urbn Leaf
- Revamp the benefits onboarding process, including a revamped benefits orientation
- Serve as a point of contact for educating staff on leave options, as well as monitoring leave balances to ensure employee compliance
- Serve as a resource and internal expert on California laws and compliance information
- Respond to employee inquiries about benefits programs, policies and processes
- Manage the benefit enrollment, renewal, and distribution processes
- Review current compensation strategy and design an improved compensation package based on business goals and strategy
- Create a consistent compensation guideline that matches our work and organizational culture
- Analyze job descriptions evaluations and classifications to ensure they are aligned with the company compensation strategy
- Conduct salary and labor market research to define benchmarks
- Apply effective communication strategies
- Assess employees needs by conducting organizational surveys
- Keep abreast with new trend and best practice in the field
- Ensure that compensation practices are in compliance with current laws and regulations
- Conduct periodic audits, prepare and present reports
- Manage the logistical aspects of the benefits onboarding and offboarding process, including preparing new hire or exiting staff information, conducting new hire orientations and benefits offboarding conversations, and ensuring completion of needed documentation
- Manage the organization's annual benefits open enrollment process
- Reconcile monthly medical billings for additions and terminations
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in HR operations and knowledge of best practices
- Familiarity with current employment rules and regulations
- Hands on experience with HR software (HRIS)
- Hands on experience with quantitative and qualitative research
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- 3-4 years of experience with benefits and/or total rewards strategy and administration
Skills and Attitudes:
- Numbers-oriented, as this career involves a great deal of quantitative analysis.
- Strong analytical capabilities, the ability to analyze trends, surveys, and spreadsheets as to determine compensation and benefits strategies.

Education:
Must have one or more of the following:

- Valid California Driver's License
- PHR/SPHR preferred
