Duties Description
The incumbents of these positions will work on quality assurance and research activities to evaluate that cannabis will meet regulatory guidelines, ensuring that cannabis products are safe for consumers and comply with regulations for medical, adult-use (retail) and hemp cannabis. Responsibilities will include product review and approval, label, and package review, PMP compliance, coordinate with state approved labs and review and investigate adverse event reports.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform quality assurance activities assigned by the Office of Cannabis Management team.
- Develop and research quality standards, policies, and procedures for quality and product safety.
- Conduct research on best practices to inform quality assurance matters.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on statewide cannabis policy on a legislative level, as well as across entity types on matters related to product safety.
- Collaborate with staff with the review of documentation and research related to quality assurance for discrepancies.
- Compile data from multiple sources and prepare quality assurance metrics for presentation to Unit Director, Management, and the Executive Team.
- Formulate and develop quality guidelines, policies, and procedures and develop alternatives/strategies for programs on a statewide level.
- Report quality issues, and trends to management in a timely manner.
- May perform a full range of supervisory duties.

The Analytical Chemist I position will work with Management, the Chemistry Operations Group, and the Service Quality Group, to continuously monitor, evaluate, revise and improve work procedures, processes, and systems to ensure best practices that result in a safe work environment, improved productivity and the highest level of quality for manufactured products in our industry.
The individual in filling this role will be a champion for product quality in the organization, understand how the quality of our manufactured products impacts our customers and will ensure that product quality for all finished goods exceeds customer expectations. The individual will be responsible for manufacturing and analytical verification of products, as well as data review and continuous improvement objectives associated with those products.
The Analytical Chemist I should also strive to achieve the following:
Understand the manufacturing and analytical quality control procedure for each product
Identify conditions that hinder the production and analytical verification of all products in a manner that is efficient, effective, and ensures the highest level of safety and quality
Evaluate and continuously improve procedures to drive gains in productivity and product quality
Ensure that work procedures and SOP鈥檚 are continuously updated to reflect best practices and that team members are following the work procedures properly and consistently
Develop, validate, and implement new or improved analytical procedures for existing and newly developed products
Develop and author new work procedures and SOP鈥檚 as new products are developed and commercialized
Ensure interdepartmental communication related to changes or revisions in work procedures and SOP鈥檚
Cross-train with colleagues on manufacturing and analytical procedures to achieve a high level of competency in the manufacturing and analytical verification of all products
Understand and apply the company鈥檚 Quality System and ensure compliance with all quality system certifications and accreditations. Assist in regular internal quality audits and external quality audits
Work with the Safety Committee and team members to ensure a safe work environment and to monitor training requirements and adherence to safety policies
Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, tools, and supplies
Participate in additional activities and responsibilities as required
Required Skills and Abilities
B.S. in Chemistry or related field and 2 + years analytical laboratory experience
Knowledge of chemical characteristics and standard methods for the analysis of environmental samples
Knowledge of the principles and practice of laboratory quality assurance and quality control
Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and procedures
Knowledge of computer based laboratory information management systems and data management and processing techniques
Excellent time management skills, work ethic, and positive attitude
The ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the progress of the company
The hourly rate or salary range for this role is $44,900 to $59,500. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for ICP bonus/incentive pay. This range may be modified in the future. Position: The Analytical Chemist/Scientist will primarily be responsible for preparing cannabis samples (flowers, edibles etc) running, troubleshooting and analyzing cannabis samples with a GC, HPLC and/or ICP system utilizing standardized and in-house lab methodology; and performing basic and complex laboratory operations.
Duties include:
路 Sample preparation for Potency, Pesticides, Terpenes, Heavy Metals, Residual Solvents, etc
路 Set up, run and troubleshoot GC/MS, GC-MS/MS, LC/MS/MS and ICP-MS systems.
路 Maintain validated ISO 17025 standards of performance for analytical chemical testing.
路 Demonstrate leadership ability and excellent interpersonal skills. Formulate and clearly communicates ideas, both verbally and in writing.
路 Works independently with little guidance as well as provide support and training for others in a team environment.
路 Develop procedures for documenting results from data collected.
