Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT)
Bend Animal Emergency and Specialty Center
As our practice grows, we have decided to open up additional positions for Licensed Veterinary Technicians (CVT/LVT) at Bend Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital.
For this position we require above average organizational skills, an outgoing attitude, critical thinking skills, and a willingness to advocate for high quality and efficient medicine within your department. Duties will include all aspects of patient care in addition to communicating with clients and daily hospital cleaning duties.
Below is our previous ad that well encompasses our business ethics and attitudes:
We could give you the typical job ad BS that you read time and time again, but we want to break the mold. We are SO over the days of reading about "competitive" benefits/wages and an unwarranted "positive team culture" written by recruiters that know nothing about a given hospital. Veterinary ERs are dying and reorganizing across the country. There needs to be change. We want to be part of that change and are well on our way. After taking over the hospital on August 1st, 2021 and completing our first wave of hiring, adding overnight hours and updating tons of equipment... we are ready for more!
We continue to pursue our belief that treating our employees better than the "industry average" is what needs to happen for people to survive in our profession. We want to give you a GOOD REASON to be positive in the workplace, not just expect it as your baseline!
We are a pair of emergency veterinarians that are working towards staffing an emergency and specialty hospital in Central Oregon with one goal in mind: to put the experience of our employees at the forefront of how we operate. Of course we want to practice high-quality medicine and provide first-class care to our clients (we expect that you do too), but running a business with a sense of moral obligation towards our staff comes first. The same empathy given to our clients needs to be given to our employees, and we are excited to move forward with our dream.
What does that mean? It means that we expect a lot from our employees, but it also means as owners, we don't take a ridiculous profit from the hospital at the expense of our employees. We want our practice to have sustainable employment! We also love efficiency, so you can bet we will be spending time, MONEY and energy making your job as easy as possible, with the technology and tools that you WANT, not just the ones you need. Remember, we work there too!
Finally, we want to be as transparent as possible. See below for actual salary numbers and medical benefits.
Need to knows:
$23/hr base Certified Veterinary Technician rate, more based on experience
Base health insurance plan is 100% paid for by us ($3500 deductible, for all staff) with buy up plans that get deductibles down to $1500 for $50/month and $500 for around $100/month!

Owned and operated by 2 emergency veterinarians (we work overnights too, both trained at Dove Lewis). One owner was an ICU tech in multiple fields (ICU, GP, Exotics) for a decade before becoming a veterinarian. The other owner has taught ER classes at the local tech school.
Paid CE and In-House CE
We defend our employees like a momma bear WITHOUT HESITATION and have a no-tolerance policy for clients being disrespectful to staff. WE GOT YOUR BACK!
We are ALL about communicating effectively with clients, at all levels of our practice.
Practice renovation scheduled 2023
6500 sq ft hospital: CT/fluoroscopy, digital radiography, IDEXX lab w/ 4500 sq ft expansion planned over the next 2 years
Cloud based EMR/treatment system so you can write notes from home (if you want)
LGBTQ+ and BIPOC allies
Ability to schedule multiple weeks off for extended vacations + working on sabbatical program for long term staff
We laugh, we cuss, we joke, we try to have fun with this job as it can be a soul-sucker. We love a good cat abscess and a solid cannabis toxicity. We hope that you will have fun too.
Who this job is for: If you would prefer to work directly with the owner of the hospital, if you want to feel heard at work meetings, if you value work-life balance, if you would like to work at a hospital that practices advanced medicine, if you want to be ENCOURAGED and EMPOWERED as a veterinary employee, if you want to live in a beautiful area of the country with numerous options for an outdoor lifestyle, if you want to experience working with transparent, directed and passionate owners... then we may be a good fit for you.
We want to provide careers in the veterinary industry, not just jobs.
