AG3, Inc. is a wholesale greenhouse located in Eustis , FL which has an immediate opening for a Full-Time Grower position. This Grower is responsible for the daily operation. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to follow precise instructions and work independently, as you will be assisting the Head Grower and they will be counting on you to have a strong sense of ownership and integrity. Primary Responsibilities:

• Monitor and provide optimum environment for all crops.
• Survey for insects and disease and apply appropriate controls such as fertilizers or pesticides

• Communicate in a timely manner on all potential crop questions and issues.
• Assists the Head Grower to find solutions and take necessary actions to minimize potential challenges.

• Maintain greenhouse and make adjustments
• Work independently and perform work in accordance with Team, Facility, and Company goals.
• Develop and utilize a weekly written pre-plan schedule
• Monitor and inspect greenhouses, identify moisture requirements and recognize plant health problems
• Inspect plants to determine deficiencies, disease and other possible problems or issues
• Scout for insects and disease and apply appropriate controls
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Pesticide License required

We are a wholesale greenhouse grower producing garden plants at two facilities in Morgan Hill, CA and Gilroy, CA. As a Grower Assistant, your goal is to efficiently and effectively support the day-to-day administrative needs of the departments responsible for producing quality plant products on a consistent basis. This is an in-person position at our Morgan Hill facility reporting to senior leadership. The ideal candidate can work both in the office as well as outside in our fields/greenhouses, and will have an interest in water management, fertilization, and pest management related to our plant products. You will have the opportunity to grow within the company as we continue to grow the business.

Responsibilities:

Compliance

• Ensure chemical regulatory compliance
• Oversee chemical safety procedures, training, and PPE
• Maintain SDS binders
• Organize and input chemical spray reports for County of Santa Clara
• Ensure continuing Organic compliance and certification
• Ensure continuing MPS compliance and certification
• Manage issuance process of Phyto Certificates
• Ensure continuing CERS Business Plan compliance for grower related categories

Purchasing

• Maintain price lists for chemicals, soil medias, fertilizers and other crop protection products
• Oversee inventory for grower materials: chemicals, fertilizers, soil, and crop protection products
• Purchase grower material: soil media components, fertilizers, chemicals and crop protection products

Administrative

• Provide grow team necessary support in coordinating meetings, assisting with projects, liaison between growers and consultants
• Calibrate pH/EC meters monthly
• Maintain crop template binder
• Input plant library changes from Production Administrator
• Provide Purchasing Administrator with seed inventory upon request
• Ensure accurate execution of customer programs by working closely with Sales and Production teams on orders and forecasts
• Assist with onboarding and development of growers
• Work on special projects such as event planning to introduce new products to customers
• Assist with errands such as meal pickups and transportation as needed

• Growing Aspects:

Daily review of the development and growing of the plants in the greenhouses and identify plant needs and indications of disease.

• Daily review and adjustments of the strategies for climate (Ventilation, Temperature, CO2, HR, VPD and Curtains) and irrigation management according to the specific crops needs using the automated systems available at the facility.
• Weekly review of water analysis results for Feed, Drain and Slab, to establish adequate level of elements in the fertilizer mix.
• Daily review of pH, EC and drainage percentage to make effective adjustments in fertilization according to the crops needs.
• Review the Pests and Diseases Monitoring data and establish the strategies for Pests and Diseases Management.
• Calculate the proper doses and spray volumes for pesticides applications.
• Monitor the effectiveness of the strategies used for the pests and diseases management.
• Operate and maintain all the operational equipment used in a greenhouse environment including irrigation, fertilization, weed and pest monitoring and control, etc.
• Conduct a weekly Crop Registration to generate growing trends and accurate production projections.
• Determine the appropriate time for each Crop Maintenance activity, and ensure that the jobs are correctly done properly and timely.
• Calculate and purchase in a timely manner all the supplies needed for the greenhouse operation such as Seeds, Plants, Slabs, Fertilizer, Pesticides, Bio-controls, and any other supply used in the Growing Process.
• Record, analyze and present the data resulting for trials or research taking place in the Greenhouses.
• Respond and resolve Systems Alarms on a timely manner.

• Labor Management and Team Leading:

• Must understand the processes and the objectives pursued by the Performance Programs to be an active trainer for the Labor Supervisors and the general workers.
• Must work closely with the Priva Clerk in order to keep the system updated.
• Must be committed to be an active leader of the work team, planning and directing all the activities in the Greenhouses in an organized and efficient manner, establishing schedules and personnel needs, communicating the work plan daily to Labor Supervisors and ensuring that they carry out the work plan with success, efficiently and timely.
• Must manage the offshore workers schedule to ensure the crop is supplied with proper amount of personnel through the year.
• Must conduct several meetings through the year to explain performance trends, motivate employees and address company’s expectations about performance and quality.
• Maintain high standards of conduct and professionalism and lead team to success.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Minimum 5-years of experience as a Grower in a high-tech glass greenhouse environment.
• Familiarity with Priva computer software.
• Must have a strong understanding of plant growth and interaction with varying environmental conditions and requirements.
• Must be familiar with horticultural nomenclature.
• Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral and spoken) in English; additional languages (i.e. Spanish, will be considered an asset).
• Must have Post-secondary education in the Horticulture Field.

Physical Abilities: Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy material (i.e. up to 50lbs). There is a requirement to bend, climb, stand, sit, walk and kneel for prolonged periods of time.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Greenhouse Grower works with a wide range of greenhouse plants. They are responsible for the management of plant growing operations and for the proper care of the greenhouse, including the principles and practices of plant cultivation, propagation, and protection. They also are responsible for the implementation and execution of an Integrated Pest Management program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Comply with Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Conservation regulations.
• Monitor greenhouse environmental conditions and alert maintenance and Greenhouse Manager of any abnormal conditions.
• Apply knowledge of plant growth techniques to include but not limited to: watering, potting, fertilizing, staking, pruning, and propagation.
• Research industry trends regularly and maintain current horticultural and plant knowledge, technical updates, and provide support for our Integrated Pest Management program.
• Prioritize all aspects of growing operation with direction from Greenhouse Manager.
• Regularly scout greenhouses, assess insect populations, and fungal problems, and address issues found in a timely manner.
• Maintain protocol of organics, bio-rationals, botanicals or chemical methods, as well as our private license for greenhouse pesticide spraying.
• Manage crop nutrition (including nursery wide fertilization), monitor, and schedule crop production times and plant cutbacks.
• Identify plant needs and indicators of disease, stress or insect infestations and provide support for our Integrated Pest Management program.
  
• Communicate pesticide needs with applications with Greenhouse Manager or Superintendent.
• Complete management of insect and disease utilizing prescribed methods upholding all safety considerations.
  
• Collect, report, and maintain records of all pesticide applications and post current signage.
  
• Collect & ensure proper cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing of tools on daily basis.
• Maintain interior plants within hotel areas which include watering, plant change, and visual observation for proper plant health.
  
• Record Garden Shop and Greenhouse Inventory. Stock, supplies and work with Greenhouse Manager on gift inventory and amenities.
• Maintain greenhouse and garden shop inventories, equipment, tools and supplies. Communicate needs to supervisor.
  
• Assist in merchandising and preparing Garden Shop and House for decoration (including special occasions), major decorating schemes, promotions, amenities, special tasks, and programs.
• Analyze and make recommendations concerning greenhouse methods, merchandising, and procedures.
