A DAY IN THE LIFE
Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group. Enthalpy is comprised of 11 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, tobacco, cannabis, and toxicity testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.
The Regional Operations Director will have supervisory control of all operations and production aspects of multiple laboratories. The Laboratory Regional Operations Director is primarily responsible for the application and development of the labs’ resources to meet current and future client requirements with lab directors and service center managers reporting to them. The Regional Operations Director is responsible for the development and execution of short- and long-term goals within the region. Critical to the success of the region is creating a sense of in-region collaboration between all sites as well as across Enthalpy’s national lab network.
As a key member of the Team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Define, revise and implement policies and guidelines for the organization.
- The Regional Operations Director responsibilities encompass the general business management of the region, and all its resources, including equipment, facilities and personnel.
- The ability to lead, manage and inspire staff to adopt goals for their department, business, and region through effective communication and goal setting.
- Ensure that the highest standards of quality and customer service are maintained.
- Guide laboratory directors and service center managers throughout the region in developing capabilities that address client needs in a service-oriented manner that maximizes profitability.
- Identify problems and opportunities and come up with insightful solutions as they arise.
- Keep abreast of new technical developments. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality of services and operational efficiency.

- Have a thorough understanding of financial and budgeting processes and principles that allow for proper budgeting and achieving quarterly and annual budgeted revenue and profitability goals.

Responsibilities of the Director will include implementing and maintaining processes related to the preparation of final form products, wholesale distillate, and management of SunGown’s primary facility in White Springs, FL. Iron Sight Industries is an industrial hemp extraction and processing veteran-owned company. We’re looking for an experienced and highly talented Director of Laboratory Operations to join our founding team. The Director of Laboratory Operations will have a chance to own an equity stake alongside a world-class founding team as we get our industrial hemp extraction and processing site off the ground in Central Oregon. You would report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and play a key role as part of the executive team.
The Director of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for managing all aspects of our extraction laboratory, including processing hemp biomass, crude oil extraction, refined oil distillation, analysis, formulation, storage, and HS&E (health, safety and environmental).
The Director of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for the daily functions of the production and analytical laboratory departments including leading extraction, analytical testing, and post-processing operations. The Director of Laboratory Operations will lead, develop and manage both direct and indirect reports in intra and inter-departmental activities.
In this role, the Director of Laboratory Operations will also collaborate with the QA/QC team and key management in the achievement and maintenance of the company’s quality accreditations and certifications including, but not limited to, cGMP, ISO, SQF, and HAACP.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment, including ensuring the proper use, function, and ongoing maintenance of all related equipment, chemicals, and other consumables
- Assist in creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) that include compliance to cGMP, ISO-17025 standards, and other relevant authorities
- Assist in training every team member to follow all SOPs regarding equipment operation, product development, and lab safety
- Maintain thorough inventory records of all plant material, chemicals, WIP, lab consumables, and finished goods
- Ensure proper safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials
- Ensure that all state and nationwide food-grade lab related credentials and standards are built into lab workflow, documentation, and other relevant areas
- Manage production planning and scheduling
- Provide frequent technical training and coaching for team members
- Develop and support new product/process introduction and development of the engineering change processes
- Evaluate and implement new processing, manufacturing, and analytical equipment
- Make recommendations regarding hiring, disciplinary actions, or career path advancement of employees
- Develop and implement a continuous improvement program with focused lab-related measurements
- Develop and implement operational key performance indicators (KPI’s) for cost, quality, safety, service, and employee development
- Lead weekly and monthly team meetings to review costs, quality, service, safety and employee development KPI's
- Work with cross-functional leaders to align and execute overall strategies
- Act as technical liaison to the sales department for new client/product development
- Develop annual operating budgets
- Develop 1 and 3-year strategic goals and objective plans
Requirements:
At least a Bachelor of Science in a science-related degree (Masters or Ph.D. preferred) and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience with at least 3 years industry scale expertise working with solvent-based extraction in a production environment such as hemp, cannabis, coffee, vegetable, or similar extraction techniques using good manufacturing practices (GMP).
Proficiency working with analytical equipment, some equipment may include HPLC, GC/MS, LCMS, qPCR, and ICP-MS.
Experience with various extraction methods as well as the purification, separation and isolation of specific compounds using technologies including but not limited to Flash and Prep chromatography.
- Ability to use statistical methods
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment; ideally with multiple daily shifts
- Working knowledge of laboratory processes
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
- Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS, and ERP system
