Full Job Description
Growing multi-state cannabis manufacturer is looking for a Controller. The Controller will report to the CEO and will have primary day-to-day responsibility for all accounting and finance functions. This individual will take ownership of accounting, payroll, inventory, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, Tax & audit management and the continual development of internal financial and operational control policies and procedures.
· Oversee day-to-day accounting/finance and operations functions
· Oversee inventory movement and tracking
· Supervise and provide guidance to the accounting and operations staff
· Perform monthly close for multiple entities
· Prepare/generate monthly financials, A/R and A/P aging reports, and other financial
reports
· Review A/R and A/P to ensure all customer and vendor accounts are up to date
· Assist CPA in monthly review of budget vs actual expenses and cash flow projections
· Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly
· Process bi-weekly payroll and review payroll tax reports.
· Review employees' expense reports to ensure company expense reimbursement policy
is followed and process reimbursements
· Perform and manage all HR functions
· Be responsible for state and city business tax reporting in multiple states
· Review customer and vendor contracts and agreements
· Assist in year-end tax compliance
Qualification and Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting
· CPA preferred
· 10+ years of related accounting experience
· Wholesale/Manufacturing industry and/or multiple entities background preferred
· Excellent leadership skills
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
· Proficiency in computer skills and well-versed in QuickBooks ( all versions), Excel, Word, etc. Other accounting software is a plus.
· Experience in cannabis industry is a plus.

SUMMARY: Coda Signature is an award-winning infused products company that is experiencing rapid growth. We are currently seeking a Controller to oversee all accounting functions and perform necessary responsibilities in a mid- volume environment. The ideal candidate will focus on commitment to quality, as well as the preparation and management of the company’s full cycle accounting process. The Controller is an integral part of the organization and will be required to adapt their structure and role to support strategic and business decisions. We are looking for someone to join our fast-paced and dynamic environment immediately. The right person will possess a combination of technical accounting experience and business operating acumen.
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform month-end close: bank reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, credit card reconciliation, payroll accruals, debt tracking, routine journal entries.
- Treasury and cash management, including cash forecasting.
- Analysis of cost and vendor spend to produce cost saving efforts.
- Establish and cultivate strong relations with vendors, brokers, banks, and other institutions.
- Perform necessary functions to assist with research and obtaining accurate information to problem solve, with clear/concise communication and ensuring timely resolution.
- Maintain files, documentation, and processes thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policies.
- Updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies for corporate and locations.
- Monitor and organize filings for various business and tax authorities, local and state.
- Primary liaison to CPA firm(s) for annual tax preparation.
- Assist with compliance and other related reporting requirements.
- Assist with administrative duties and ad-hoc report preparation.
EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years (required) / 6+ (preferred) relevant experience or in this role | Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- Start-ups and small/medium sized organizations are highly valued and considered
- QuickBooks Desktop (preferred)
- T&E Expense Reporting software; Expensify (preferred) | PCard (procurement or corporate credit cards) experience
- Payroll Provider; Paychex (preferred)
- Must have Intermediate/Advance knowledge of MS Excel (vlookups/hlookups, pivot tables)
- Annual 1099 preparation and review
JOB REQUIREMENTS / COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of IRC 280e/471c and COGS expense recognition
- Experience with GAAP accounting and application of appropriate policies and practices.
- Proactive in providing financial information to the Executive Team to support decisions and directions of the organization.
- Business acumen, customer/client service oriented demeaner, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a high paced, mid-volume and deadline driven environment.
- Collaborative with Executive Team and the other department heads of the corporate team.
- Be a motivational leader and corporate level support system for all the office/practices.
