- Loyola Marymount University’s Department of Psychology has an opening for a full-time term Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is approximately a 1 year assignment with the option for renewal for 2 additional years. Under the supervision of the Center’s Director and Asst. Director, this position will be expected to work closely with the research team on a California Dept of Pub Health/Education Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP). The project examines the relationship between marijuana dispensaries, alcohol outlets and smoke shops in South Los Angeles’ under resourced Latinx and African American community. Attention is also given to the role of community organizing as a community and systems change strategy.
- This Postdoctoral Fellow is an approx. 1-year appointment.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
- The fellow will perform participate in meetings with community organizers, observe community events, quantitative analysis of large administrative data sets, prepare technical presentations and reports, provide technical assistance and conduct presentation of the research or preliminary findings. Additionally, the fellow will supervise/mentor research assistants and undergraduate students and prepare articles for publication.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Successful candidates will be experienced in and/or interested in health disparities, prevention, community based participatory research, the influence of social context on health and well-being in communities of color or other related public health issues, as well as marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, or other drug research and policy,. We are also looking for candidates that have experience working with a diverse range of stakeholder and community groups, work independently on multiple projects, and be well grounded in health and community psychology theory, research and application. Demonstrated excellent quantitative and/or applied research skills (e.g., R-statistics, STATA, SPSS, GIS), strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting..
Required Education:
- We seek candidates who typically possess a Doctorate or Doctoral candidate in Psychology or other social science discipline. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
