EQ Verde is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager. The candidate must have a strong understanding of overall accounting principles. We are a staffing and hiring company, supporting Apothecary Farms and Apothecary Extracts, which is a vertically integrated cannabis company. Come join our exciting and growing team!
This position is ideal for someone who is meticulously organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, diligent, with a strong ability to take initiative alongside following procedures and guidelines, while at the same time multi-task and work to meet firm deadlines.
In this position, you will report directly to the Controller and directly manages a 3 person team consisting of payroll coordinator, staff accountant and AP/AR office assistant
Responsibilities include overseeing, delegating and preparing:
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Reconcile accounts, expenses, perform various analyses, as well as monthly/quarterly reports, with excellent attention to detail
- Support and participate in the month-end and year-end close process
- Provide day-to-day accounting operations support
- Prepare and review journal entries and monthly General Ledger account reconciliations
- Support the balance sheet analytics process, including preparing, reviewing, and coordinating the variance analysis for balance sheet accounts, as well as additional reporting requirements as needed for management and statutory reporting
- Work on matters for guidance and implementation of proper accounting treatment
- Provide customer support to operational teams regarding inquiries
- Prepare and manage accrual and reversal journal entries
- Maintain intercompany balances
- Reconcile bank statements
- Prepare and submit multi-state tax returns
- Prepare and submit 1099s
- Processing Payroll as a backup to payroll agent, including journal entries, related reporting, and accruals
- Maintain the expense reporting system
- Balance credit cards and account statements monthly
- Other duties as required
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience as a manager in accounting HIGHLY PREFERRED
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is HIGHLY PREFERRED
- Working knowledge of Syteline, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office is preferred
- Processing Payroll as a backup to payroll agent
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements and overseeing budgets
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process, managing closings
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and operate proactively
- Some travel will be required, especially during the initial training period

Your responsibilities in this role:
- Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Focus on Cash management, various business unit and location reporting
- The ability to set up or manage analytical customer research, i.e. set up systems to look at our customer purchasing habits.
- Experience with Microsoft PowerBi
- MYSQL experience
- Support cash management techniques
- Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly
- Handle monthly and annual close and produce income statement and balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Produce monthly KPI’s for various departments and locations
- Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet expectations
- Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
- Manage the insurance portfolio, General Liability, Property Casualty and Health reconciliation process
Requirements
- Good understanding of financial analysis
- 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience as Controller preferred
- Basic understanding of book to tax adjustments
- Broad knowledge of GAAP financials
- Experience with Monthly Close
- Basis understanding of Asset Keeper or the fixed asset management including depreciation schedules
- Ability to management the sale and use tax filing process
- Wide ranging experience with financial reconciliation
- Prior experience with Company Internal Control
- Financial Reporting
- HR Department interface and Paychex payroll experience preferred.
- Skills in Direct Supervision MUST be able to manage a team to a timely closing process.
- Hands-on experience with year end closings
- Comprehensive knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP)
- Quality experience with Bank Account Reconciliation
- Practical knowledge of Balance Sheet Reconciliation
- Work with outside accounting firm for various tax return preparation
- Previous experience working with Microsoft Excel
- General familiarity with account reconciliation
- Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
- Skillful in analytical, quantitative and social skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
- Excellent verbal, written, and social communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
- Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

Summary
- Assisting in setup, maintenance, cultivation, harvest, process, and packaging of cannabis plants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A successful candidate must be able to perform all duties satisfactorily
- Maintain high horticultural standards and practices, and follow all Company SOP’s
- Complete preparatory work, maintenance and movement of plants
- Assist in setup, nutrient mixing, and maintenance of plants and rooms
- Conduct intensive cleaning of equipment and general work areas
- Assist in receiving, inventory management, and stocking materials
- Accurate record keeping and data entry for all package, plant and company data
- Complete proper documentation and tracking of all activities necessary to be in accordance with all Company, State, and local requirements
- Follow all MED/CDA/CDPHE rules and regulations; accurate data entry into METRC system as needed
- Ability to follow directions, perform duties with a positive attitude, take feedback and learn new tasks
- Must be able to pass criminal background check.
Education
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- MED badge required
Licenses and Certifications
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have a valid state driver's license
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Colorado MED Support or Key Badge
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator's License
- Must possess or be able to obtain a respirator fit test certification
- Must meet all MED, CDLE, state, and local requirements for employment
Knowledge
- Excellent mathematic, language, and reasoning skills, computer skills preferred
- Knowledge and familiarity with Cannabis cultivation strongly preferred; but not required
- Familiarity with manufacturing procedures preferred
