The Associate Broker will support the growth of the Jencap Cannabis Practice Group. This role will work remotely.
Responsible for marketing, managing and retaining a consistently growing book of business within the Cannabis Practice Group. The Jencap Associate Broker acts as Account Executive and supports the effort to build relationships with clients and maintain a high level of responsiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Assist senior brokers in the marketing of new and renewal business.
- Handle clearance of new submissions and file setup of new policies
- Solicit and arrange renewal files
- Properly document all conversations and materials with retail agents and/or carriers
- Prepare, at the direction of senior brokers, quotations and binders
- Communicate with customers to obtain data needed for policy issuance/servicing
- Maintain service standards by timely response to customer requests
- Develop proficiency in insurance theories and practices
- Develop an understanding of the cannabis industry and the cannabis insurance marketplace
- Maintain state-issued P&C license
- Maintain state-issued E&S license
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; course work in Risk Management and/or Insurance desirable
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills
- Prior experience in Property & Casualty insurance preferred
- Prior experience in the Excess and Surplus lines insurance industry preferred
- Knowledge and/or experience in the cannabis industry preferred

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Underwrite or broker risks, ensuring that all required information is obtained, proper applications are completed, quotes and binders are confirmed in writing, policies are issued promptly and accurately, state filings are made, taxes are paid in accordance with appropriate state laws, and payments are secured on risks bound or written
- Review, analyze and underwrite risks submitted by Producers, rate submissions for premium and terms, analyze exposures for quotes for new and renewal business, issue written indications, quotes and binders; use inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies
- Meet with retail agency customers to develop business and cultivate relationships in an effort to grow a book of business
- Understand and extend Company facilities, utilizing binding authorities or brokering risks when required to successfully negotiate a placement; be responsible for your underwriting results
- Service and perpetuate existing business, occasionally produce new business, and have a keen awareness of priorities
- Provide guidance and training to the processors and assistants, to enable them to reduce the underwriters’ clerical workload, and to develop basic underwriting and brokering skills and techniques
- Foster and seek relationships with teammates across all levels of Hull & Company and Brown & Brown
- Ensure compliance with government agencies and corporate policies and procedures
- Attend training sessions, courses, etc. to maintain up-to-date skills
- Always conduct the highest level of confidentiality
- Other duties as needed
Required Skills
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, or five years’ insurance experience may be considered
- Property & Casualty License required
- Experience with excess and surplus lines underwriting a plus
- Strong financial aptitude
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
