The Laboratory Supervisor will supervise and optimize all the tasks in the Extraction and Purification Laboratory and will assist the Manufacturing team by maintaining quality control measures in the extraction and purification process and thereby ensuring the delivery of high-quality product. Processing Lab Supervisor Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Oversees production by creating and reviewing production schedule; studying and clarifying specifications; calculating requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extraction
- QA/QC duties that require analytical testing for quality and consistency, data review
- Operating highly sophisticated extraction equipment; Processing concentrates and extracts
- Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), good documentation practices (GDP), and standard operating procedures; complying with legal regulations; monitoring environment
- Operating, maintaining, and making adjustments and repairs to laboratory equipment such as distillation systems, Rotovaps, balances, centrifuges, and other laboratory equipment
- Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment
- Maintaining STS system for Lab production
- Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste according to guidelines, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate
- Washing and sterilizing laboratory glassware
- Creation of SOPs, training records, and related documentation
- Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products
- Maintaining highest level of compliance to ensure processing operation is fully compliant with state regulations, federal and state laws
- Assures that operation adheres to all business and industry license requirements-able to produce documents as proof immediately upon request
- Assures all safety requirements are adhered to
Skills:
- Knowledge of and hands on experience with Super Critical CO2 Extraction, Rotary Evaporation and Wiped Film Distillation
- Able to oversee analysis on HPLC instrumentation
- Able to implement Food Quality Safe (SQF) standard procedures
- Able to process samples by collection, extraction, preparing for analysis, and quantifying results.
- Scientific laboratory procedures and techniques as used in a chemistry laboratory
- Scientific laboratory equipment and apparatus
- Scientific methods of measurements
- Health and safety practices and precautions applicable to a chemistry laboratory
- Proper and safe handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes
- Capabilities with computer systems, software, and hardware common to laboratories
- Record keeping procedures
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform repetitive techniques accurately and consistently
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, along with frequent bending
- Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds with assistance
Requirements:
- BS/BA Degree or greater with at least 4 years' experience in a lab or manufacturing setting required
- QA/QC experience with HPLC analysis highly preferred
- Prior experience with GMP in a food production environment and Safe Quality Food (SFQ) Standards
- Scientific writing for processes, training, and procedures that require documentation
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Subject to background check per state cannabis regulations

The Laboratory Supervisor role is a full-time role working Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM with some overtime and weekend work necessary based on business need. Candidates within a commutable distance of Escondido, CA are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrates and promotes the company vision
- Regular attendance and punctuality
- Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriate
- May be required to assume responsibilities of Site Operations in the absence of the Site Operations Head.
- Schedules staff and assigns resources.
- Identifies resource needs and coordinates installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and space, as applicable.
- Reviews data, as applicable.
- Prepares technical report for clients, as applicable.
- Creates SOPs and assures staff compliance to SOPs and other regulatory agency guidelines.
- Develops appropriate training plans and ensures staff are trained.
- Develops expertise in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex equipment or software.
- Performs general human resources responsibilities, including recruitment activities, performance evaluations, and progressive discipline.
- Identifies process improvement opportunities, recommends solutions, and implements action plans.
- May act as frontline contact for internal and external clients.
- Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment.
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in Science, or equivalent degree plus 5-6 years related experience and 1-2 years management experience. Experience may be substituted for education.
- Knowledge of appropriate regulatory agency guidelines.
- Working knowledge of laboratory operations and an understanding of the technical aspects of a laboratory.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in cannabis or brewing industry.
