A DAY IN THE LIFE
Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, tobacco, cannabis, and toxicology testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.
Our El Dorado Hills, CA facility is currently seeking an Analytical Chemist for our LC-MS/MS group. Analysts perform chemical measurements and other tasks to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently generating defensible data on time.
As a key member of the laboratory team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Quantitative sample analysis
- Understand the purpose of the testing and determine if analyses do not meet minimum quality control and project criteria
- Maintaining organized records of analysis and equipment maintenance
- Instrument calibration and troubleshooting of equipment
- Work with Group Leader to improve quality and efficiency of analyses
- React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as prescribed by the Company
- Compliance with Enthalpy's Quality Assurance Program and other policies
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum of 1 year experience operating LC-MS and/or GC-MS
- Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
- Must be flexible in work schedule and able to work overtime
- Well organized and have an attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- 2 years in an analytical testing environment (academic or professional)
- Experience using Waters MassLynx software
- Experience testing for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) by LC-MS/MS

Job Purpose:
The Lab Analyst will be responsible for performing, documenting, record checking, and basic troubleshooting of qualitative and quantitative assays on samples using techniques that vary from the use of standard laboratory equipment to highly modern and automated instrumentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Analyze samples consisting of a variety of matrices using traditional laboratory technologies including, but not limited to, HPLC, GC/MS, LC/MS, and ICP/MS. This position will mainly focus on LC/MS.
- Prepare samples for analysis while displaying good laboratory technique to avoid cross-contamination or misidentified samples.
- Accurately prepare calibration curves and quality control samples.
- Interpret and evaluate data in terms of accuracy, precision, trends, and quality control requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment by cleaning, and otherwise ensuring ongoing proper working order. Report equipment issues to supervisor
- Collaborate with the laboratory team to meet reporting deadlines.
- Able to perform method validations, or verifications as needed.
- Manage inventory supplies and alert supervisor in advance when materials must be ordered
- May participate in root cause analysis for quality assurance.
- Assist with training incoming analysts and technicians on methodology.
- Participate in the development or updating of departmental SOP’s.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering or Environmental Sciences required or based on state requirements.
- Knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques, and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting required.
- At least 1 year of laboratory experience.
- Experience with LC/MS is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one analytical instrument preferred.
- Food science and/or environmental experience is a plus.
- Exposure to the cannabis industry is a plus.

- Basic understanding of standard laboratory protocol.
- Maintain high productivity, keen attention to detail, and consistent multi-tasking while yielding a low testing error rate.
- Strong agility, engagement, and flexibility in an ever-changing environment.
