This Recruitment is to create a eligible list for future vacancies.
The Planning and Building Department invites applications for a Land Use Technician to fill vacancies in the Current Planning Section of the Department. The Land Use Technician will provide the Current Planning Section with a variety of paraprofessional current planning, administrative, and first line customer service support. The Land Use Technician receives, reviews and processes permits and applications, including cannabis land use permits.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide information to builders, architects, engineers, contractors and the public about land use permit and land division application processes. The individual will be experienced and comfortable working in the public sector environment. The individual will possess strong communication skills. The individual will have a sense of urgency, a strong commitment to providing quality service to the community, and a desire to support and help build a strong current planning section. The individual will bring a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and exercise thoughtful decision-making and problem-solving. Only the most qualified and experienced candidates with public sector experience will be considered for the Land Use Technician position.

Education and Experience:
Either A: Two (2) years of clerical level experience in planning, building, public works, construction, and/or a closely related field;
OR B: Two (2) years of closely related coursework (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) at an accredited college or university;
OR C: Any combination of the abovementioned experience or college level coursework that equals two years. (Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certificate may substitute for one year of the required education/experience.)
Licenses and Certificates:
Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver’s license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
