POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a bench scientist to add your expertise to our R&D team! Progressive Plant Research conducts cannabis R&D and breeding in a highly-specialized facility under an OLCC Cannabis Research Certificate. You will work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director and other senior team members and will be assigned independent special projects that contribute to the development of new processes and assays. Your focus will be on DNA extraction and PCR, natural product chemical analysis by HPLC and GC, as well as a variety of research and development tasks involving simple to complex molecular biology and chemical assays.
To be successful in this role, you must have exceptional attention to detail and focus. This position requires someone that is reliable, efficient, follows directions precisely, maintains accurate records, and keeps a clean and organized work space
We have a rigorous training program and cannabis research experience is not required. Must be 21 years of age or older.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Process high volume of samples with minimal technical supervision
- Conduct novel R&D experiments under general direction of senior techs/scientists
- Keep detailed and accurate records on all experiments carried out using eLab software
- Analyze and report complex laboratory results
- Prepare required reagents or solvents
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations through participation in department meetings, input to management, and other available means
- Perform general laboratory support activities such as inventory, restocking, cleaning, etc.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
POSITION SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Horticulture, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a closely related field; or equivalent certification/experience; or in lieu of degree, have equivalent knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction.
- At least 2 years experience in a regulated, analytical or medical laboratory environment. Demonstrated competency in laboratory techniques are required. Familiarity with standard operating procedures/work instructions.
- Computer skills including Google Docs and Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel are required.
- Adaptability - the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced laboratory.
- Detail Oriented - exceptional attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
- The ability to learn and follow standard laboratory procedures, practices, and techniques
- Hands-on experience with either Molecular Biology or Analytical Chemistry with an emphasis in the following areas:
- DNA/RNA extraction.
- Experience with qPCR and RT-qPCR.
- Experience with PCR primer and probe design and related technical knowledge is a plus.
- Plant tissue extraction
- High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional late evenings and weekends
- Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs minimum
- Able to perform repetitive motions with hands and arms
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, at close proximity to others
