Job Title: Herbal Consultant
Locations: Aptos/Watsonville Ca
Reports to: Shift Supervisor, Dispensary Manager
Classification: nonexempt (hourly)
Pay Range: $17.00 + per hour (base pay is $15-16/hour + tips)
Job Objective: The Herbal Consultant facilitates the sale of cannabis products in the dispensary.
Job Outline and Competencies:
- Greets customers and escorts them into the showroom
- Educates customers about a variety of cannabis products, including flower, edibles, and concentrates
- Stays abreast of new products, strains, changes in laws, and industry trends in order to provide the highest level of customer service
- Engages in suggestive selling techniques
- Provides recommendations on cannabis products based on customer requests
- Advises customers on proper safety measures to follow when consuming cannabis
- Maintains accurate records in Leaf Logix
- Verifies proper identification and paperwork from customers
- Assisting in various dispensary operations, including operating the cash register and maintaining clean and sanitary working and shopping conditions
- Must be bilingual and have reliable transportation
Essential Functions: The Herbal Consultant must be able to do the following:
- Report to their scheduled shift on time
- Walk short distances and stand for extended periods
- Reach, bend, and extend in order to facilitate the sale of cannabis products
- Talk to and listen to customers and other employees to facilitate the sale of cannabis products
- Enter information into a computer
- Read and understand English
- Lift up to 50 pounds
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Work Environment: The Herbal Consultant works in an indoor environment with heat, air-conditioning, and good lighting. The noise level is low.
Physical demands: The Herbal Consultant position requires walking short distances, standing for extended periods, reaching, bending, and extending in order to facilitate the sale of cannabis products.
Expected Work Hours: The shifts for Herbal Consultants are 7:30am – 3pm and 2:30pm – 9pm, seven days a week. Overtime is not expected but is offered occasionally.
Required Education and Experience: none
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Suggestive selling experience
- Experience working as an Herbal Consultant
- Knowledge of cannabis strains and their medicinal and adult-uses purposes
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills

General Job Description:
Provides exceptional customer service to clients during the selection of cannabis products. Retains a broad knowledge of current products and is eager to learn more about cannabis and its many benefits and applications. Accurately handles transactions and has an in depth understanding of our point of sale software.
Job Outline:
o Greet every client with a friendly, fresh and welcoming demeanor
o Create a memorable Herbal Consultation experience by getting to know your client, remember the names of regulars, take your time with each client in turn; cultivate a personal one-on-one consulting experience.
o Memorize and encourages sales, specials and company promotions
o Adapt to the environment and adjust your approach when needed; read your client
o Continually educate yourself on new products, cannabis culture and regulatory changes
o Read and retain all training material, employee handbook, policies and procedures etc.
o Stay in the loop by checking work chats, emails and message boards regularly
o Maintain compliance with applicable local and state laws
o Does not use cannabis before work or during a break. Is never under the influence of cannabis or any other substance while on the clock
o Follow company dress-code and presents professionally while at work
o Maintain a clean and organized work environment; look for ways to stay productive
o Advise inventory personnel when front inventory is low, helps with stocking when needed
o Help with packaging and labeling of products when needed
o Maintain a positive attitude and a high-performance work ethic
o Provide a safe and secure environment for client confidentiality
o Any other tasks as required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o 2 years experience in customer service, sales, or related field.
o A working knowledge of or curiosity about cannabis, its applications, effects, methods of use, and varying forms
o Able to work in a high-stress environment with a broad, dynamic and diverse demographic of staff and clients
o Is open to receiving direction and sustains a high level of productivity
o Strong communication, interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
o Able to stand and speak to clients and staff without a break for several hours
o Reliable transportation
o No prior felonies
