One of the Cannabis industry's largest multi-state operators is hiring a Director of Site Operations for their Lansing, MI campus . This individual will be running daily operations at a brand new state of the art cannabis grow and manufacturing facility and needs to have a solid understanding in production operations and can directly oversee teams leading packaging, manufacturing, etc. Initially, this hire will have 3-4 direct reports (Quality Assurance, Safety and Purchasing) and will oversee their manufacturing operations.
An ideal candidate should have 1-3 years' experience in the Cannabis industry and ideally come from a Manufacturing / Plant Management background in the consumer packaged goods (CPG), Cannabis, or Food Production/Manufacturing industries. Lean manufacturing principles are highly sought after as is any additional automation experience. Candidates who have operated a start-up plant or have start-up experience will thrive in this position.
Responsibilities
- Create and improve quality standards and procedures for processing operations
- Implement new policies to increase efficiency and reduce costs
- Manage the daily manufacturing operations including daily targets, best practices, etc.
- Oversee Post-harvest, Packaging, and Manufacturing operations
- Introduce lean manufacturing and/or automation procedures
Qualifications
- 10+ years' experience in a similar CPG-related position (or in the cannabis / food production industry)
- 1-3+ years' experience in the Cannabis industry
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Expert-level understanding of post-harvest processing in a large-scale agriculture or plant operation
- Prior experience in a start-up facility or environment

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities.
- Strategy – Define and implement the Operations strategy in alignment with the Company and State vision
- Operational Execution – Assume full operational responsibility for the end-to-end chain of custody including all cultivation, extraction, manufacturing and distribution activities

- Extraction and Manufacturing – Ensure effective extraction type and output relative to product mix and maximize production throughput to deliver high product quality
- Product Development – Develop and launch new products in coordination with product portfolio management and Research and Development (R&D) and that new products are launched on time in line with agreed timescales
- Distribution – Ensure customers receive on-time deliveries in a cost-efficient manner
- Equipment Capability – Ensure the right equipment capability is in place across the chain of custody, ensuring appropriate commissioning, operating and service maintenance and implement an effective asset register
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) – Ensure company policy, procedures and SOP's are defined and in place and achieved on a consistent basis, taking appropriate action to ensure improvement or remedial action to resolve any non-compliance
- Business Controls – Ensure the definition and implementation of appropriate controls are in place across the chain of custody including but not limited to SOX, Inventory, Financial and Biological controls
- Integrated Business Planning – Implement integrated business planning including demand and supply planning to ensure that the required capacity and capability is in place to meet the anticipated demand
- Financial Management – Work closely with the Regional Financial Controller to build and own the Facility's financial budget for all Operational activity. Define and implement cost controls to achieve the company's budget goals
- Performance KPI's – Develop performance KPI's and implement a continuous improvement culture across all aspects of the operation to course correct, ensure root cause failure analysis and improve performance
- People Leadership – Recruit, lead, manage, develop and coach a high-performance Team
- Critical Relationships – The role will have critical inter-dependencies at the local, regional and national level, including Finance, Compliance, Product Management and Manufacturing and Supply Chain, and will work in collaboration to ensure all objectives are met in the best interests of the Company and the State Entity
- Follow company policies and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:
- Educated to Bachelor's Degree Level (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Business or another relevant field)
- Post-secondary education preferred
- 10+ years senior level experience in Operations / Supply Chain gained within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) – ideally food, pharmaceutical or similar
- 5+ years senior level experience of leading and operating a large-scale plant / facility
- Experience in the Cannabis industry
- Demonstrable supply chain strategy and execution capability
